Does this put paid to seeing the youngsters?
at 16:56 29 Mar 2018

Not a conspiracy. I just don't see any reason for Mick to risk losing games to play the likes of Morris when his only aim is about what happens this season.

I was looking forward to seeing a few of them get a chance but would be surprised if they did.

If Mick was staying he'd have possibly used dead rubbers to see what a few of them could do?

Now he'll be trying to finish as high as possible, with no regards for what we do next season. That probably puts an end to any of the youngsters being blooded.

What reaction do you think we'll see from the players Saturday?
at 16:36 29 Mar 2018

Blood and thunder, fully committed performance, desperate to get a win for the gaffer?

On the beach already, no need to break into a sweat, what's the point type display?

ITFC new manager blackball thread
at 16:34 29 Mar 2018

Dwight Yorke.

Never made any effort to get into management in the lower divisions, constantly puts his name forward whenever the Sunderland or Villa job is going, then seems to be outraged when he isn't interviewed.

So Mick has left and it looks like Evans isn't changing his
at 16:29 29 Mar 2018

Evans has essentially just parted with who you could argue is the best manager for working with limited funds and giving us an outside shot at promotion.

The fact they never even discussed a contract extension tells me that Evans is likely to change approach.

History doesn't. But recent history of parting with Mick, lowering ticket prices and saying he got it wrong does.

No British referees at the World Cup
at 16:25 29 Mar 2018

So how does a ref from Uzbekistan get to Elite level?

Surely refereeing two teams of players worth an average of £50m each, dealing with egos like Mourinho, being watched live by 80,000 fans and millions on TV is a little but more qualified than refereeing players paid £30 per week in front of a crowd of 600?

A potential scenario
at 16:22 29 Mar 2018

I'm not saying they would. That's the point of a hypothetical situation.

For once though I do feel Evans is ready to back the next guy to some small degree. Really, he has no choice. He can't expect to find a manager who can get us promoted on the current budget.

Mmmm. Just watched the presser.
at 16:21 29 Mar 2018

I don't think there is any doubt that Mick is a decent guy but he is too defensive and too eager to present himself as impenetrable.

He makes out like nothing we say gets to him, then lashes out.

He says if the fans want to say something say it to my face, then walks to the middle of the pitch after a defeat and walks off as far away from the stands as possible after as many people have gone as possible.

He doesn't like to accept criticism or accept he is wrong.

But perhaps some of these traits are why he's been a decent manager. Who knows.

A potential scenario
at 16:17 29 Mar 2018

Yes or no?

If we were to get £3m plus for Bart (I think he should be worth closer to £5m personally, but lets say £3m as a minimum to sell in the summer after triggering the extension) and could bring in an average Championship keeper on a free and Evans gave the new manager the £3m to invest, would you allow Bart to leave?

Just had a thought

That's a thought that even Trigger would laugh at.

Increase revenue? From two months ST payments before everybody cancelled? I don't think so.

...but there will be referees from Turkey, French Polynesia, 2 from the USA, New Zealand, Iran, Uzbekistan, Gambia, Ethiopia.

That's incredible. I mean I am all for giving other nations a chance, but you have to have referees that have taken charge of big games when it's the biggest stage of all!

Crystal Palace have had 14 managers since GEORGE BURLEY! In 2010!

The fans that hounded mick out should be ashamed of themselves
at 15:38 29 Mar 2018

Yes.

It's disgusting that it took us almost 1,000 days after first being bored to death of watching our club that we finally invaded the pitch, held protests and charged towards the dugout.

Sorry, I mean made McCarthy know that we were bored of his football.

Just post under your own username Truce will you.

That is an absolute farce on the highest scale.

When you have the biggest league, some of the best referees, those use to handling world class players, huge matches and occasions like Champions League finals, how can there be no Premier League officials there, when they will no doubt have officials from the likes of the Swiss, Hungarian or Slovakian leagues.

Can't wait for the FA's comments.

Does anyone else have a slight fear about Mick recommending replacements?
at 15:08 29 Mar 2018

I don't think he's going to be all out for a bad manager. But I wouldn't put it past Mick to strongly recommend a good mate of his in the game, regardless of ability.

I have stated numerous times today I'll applaud Mick and appreciate what he's done, so I don't want this to just be a dig at Mick, but his arrogance does make me question how genuine he'd be if asked by Marcus who he'd recommend.

I know he likes the staff and players but he doesn't seem to have any time for the fans and he does come across as almost wanting us to fail after he leaves to highlight his brand and how good he was.

Millwall, Wolves, Sunderland all relegated post Mick
at 14:59 29 Mar 2018

What Mick didn't allude to is that he was sacked by Wolves and Sunderland when they were deep in the mire and heading down. That's largely why they went down. Because of him!

There are a few Premier League managers who like to boast they've never been relegated. That's because they've been sacked whilst in the relegation zone.

If, as some are speculating, Mick and Marcus didn't share the same ambition
at 14:55 29 Mar 2018

Then why would Evans be about to have an on camera interview?

Some are suggesting Mick wanted to stay with funds and Evans isn't prepared to back him with those, based on Mick's comments. But if anything I am inclined to think Evans may be leaning the other way.

I wanted Mick gone, but also don't think too many managers could do a better job at giving us an outside shot of the playoffs on the current budget. They may improve the entertainment or style, keep us safe from the drop, but get us in and around the playoffs on this budget? Probably not.

So the fact Evans is letting Mick walk without a fight suggests to me that he is ready to back a new manager a little and knows if he doesn't then we may well fall below what we already have under Mick.

I just can't see any way that Evans, after 10 years, finally comes on camera (let's not forget he goes to games and some people still don't know what he looks like) and puts his face out there, then appoints an underwhelming manager and gives him no funds. It makes him a target.

Part of me wonders if the club is close to, or has been sold. Even then I wouldn't expect Evans to do an on camera piece but at least it would make some kind of sense. Especially with the change of sponsor. Maybe a goodbye / thank you type thing.

But the most likely scenario is to try and appease fans by accepting mistakes were made, committing to youth, setting out a plan, telling fans we want to try and entertain etc and try and get some of the fans who have left to come back.

I just can't see that Mick wanted money, Marcus said we'll continue to function on scraps and then that's the time he decides to put his face out there. Makes no sense does it!

Now he's going, can we please try and end it amicably?
at 13:53 29 Mar 2018

I have wanted McCarthy gone longer than most but I'll quite happily applaud the bloke off after the Boro game.

He's made so many mistakes over the last two years, bored me to tears, a lot of my mates no longer go because of his style of play and he's constantly poured petrol on the flames.

But that doesn't take away from the fact that he undoubtedly kept us from League One, made us all proud of ITFC again for the first time in years and gave us a fantastic season where we were 45 minutes away from Wembley and a possible Premier League return.

He absolutely deserves to have that recognised. As much as he's driven people away lately and made them fall out of love with the club, for two seasons he brought people back to the club and made them fall in love with it again.
