Does this put paid to seeing the youngsters?
at 16:53 29 Mar 2018

If Mick was staying he'd have possibly used dead rubbers to see what a few of them could do?

Now he'll be trying to finish as high as possible, with no regards for what we do next season. That probably puts an end to any of the youngsters being blooded.

What reaction do you think we'll see from the players Saturday?

Blood and thunder, fully committed performance, desperate to get a win for the gaffer?

On the beach already, no need to break into a sweat, what's the point type display?

A potential scenario
at 16:17 29 Mar 2018

Yes or no?

If we were to get £3m plus for Bart (I think he should be worth closer to £5m personally, but lets say £3m as a minimum to sell in the summer after triggering the extension) and could bring in an average Championship keeper on a free and Evans gave the new manager the £3m to invest, would you allow Bart to leave?

Does anyone else have a slight fear about Mick recommending replacements?
at 15:03 29 Mar 2018

I have stated numerous times today I'll applaud Mick and appreciate what he's done, so I don't want this to just be a dig at Mick, but his arrogance does make me question how genuine he'd be if asked by Marcus who he'd recommend.

I know he likes the staff and players but he doesn't seem to have any time for the fans and he does come across as almost wanting us to fail after he leaves to highlight his brand and how good he was.

If, as some are speculating, Mick and Marcus didn't share the same ambition
at 14:55 29 Mar 2018

Then why would Evans be about to have an on camera interview?

Some are suggesting Mick wanted to stay with funds and Evans isn't prepared to back him with those, based on Mick's comments. But if anything I am inclined to think Evans may be leaning the other way.

I wanted Mick gone, but also don't think too many managers could do a better job at giving us an outside shot of the playoffs on the current budget. They may improve the entertainment or style, keep us safe from the drop, but get us in and around the playoffs on this budget? Probably not.

So the fact Evans is letting Mick walk without a fight suggests to me that he is ready to back a new manager a little and knows if he doesn't then we may well fall below what we already have under Mick.

I just can't see any way that Evans, after 10 years, finally comes on camera (let's not forget he goes to games and some people still don't know what he looks like) and puts his face out there, then appoints an underwhelming manager and gives him no funds. It makes him a target.

Part of me wonders if the club is close to, or has been sold. Even then I wouldn't expect Evans to do an on camera piece but at least it would make some kind of sense. Especially with the change of sponsor. Maybe a goodbye / thank you type thing.

But the most likely scenario is to try and appease fans by accepting mistakes were made, committing to youth, setting out a plan, telling fans we want to try and entertain etc and try and get some of the fans who have left to come back.

I just can't see that Mick wanted money, Marcus said we'll continue to function on scraps and then that's the time he decides to put his face out there. Makes no sense does it!

Genuine WTF transfer rumour of the day
at 09:39 27 Mar 2018

Barcelona are considering a move for Luke Shaw.

The lad looked superb at 18, was in the last World Cup squad and deserved a move to Man Utd. But since then (and I know he had an awful injury), he's had four different managers I think criticise his lack of effort and attitude and a fair few United legends reckon that he's carrying far too much weight.

Goodness knows what Barca see there.

The marmite that is Stewart Lee
at 17:12 26 Mar 2018

Often seen threads on here by many that consider him to be the funniest man alive. It's a bit odd there were so many empty seats at his recent show then.

http://www.ipswichstar.co.uk/news/stewart-lee-review-the-regent-ipswich-1-545026

Not for me. Seems to explain not being that funny by suggesting that only the cleverest 10% get his jokes and that anyone who doesn't just can't function on the same level as him.

And the people who claim he is funny always seem to be the same sort of people who would need to convince people they are in that 10% because it is important to them that others think they are clever.

I wonder if most of the people who claim to find him funny actually don't.

ITFC have missed a trick
at 14:39 26 Mar 2018

Rochdale a year ago:

'This year, Rochdale AFC will have been established for 110 years - formed on 15th May 1907 - and to celebrate, we are offering fans an unbelievable opportunity to purchase a 2017/18 season ticket for potentially only £110!

The £110 offer is based on achieving 4,000 season ticket sales and the final price will depend on the number of season ticket deposits sold:

Over 2,000 season ticket sales - £250
Over 2,500 season ticket sales - £200
Over 3,000 season ticket sales - £150
Over 4,000 season ticket sales - £110

Can you imagine if ITFC had confirmed a minimum 10% discount to all supporters and then followed a model like this?

They could confirm that by April 30 everybody needs to confirm which seat they want, in which stand and then pay a £50 deposit.

They could then confirm a few weeks later how many ST's were sold and adjust the prices so that if we had 10,000 ticket holders (or whatever the figure was last season) the price remains as advertised, but if we get 11,000 then the price will be adjusted (£381 to £346) and so on, so that if we sold 15,000 the original price would only be 66% of what it was. If we sold 20,000 then the price would be 50% of what it was

This way the club gets the EXACT same amount of ST revenue, but your £381 season ticket would cost £254 if the club sold 15,000 or £190 if the club sold 20,000.

Seems a no brainer (especially if the club didn't make the reduction so dramatic and covered the policing / staff costs for higher crowds).

It would have cost the club no extra money but could potentially have led to fans coming together to drive down the cost for everyone.

The final ticket prices are finalised and the club takes the remaining sum in a lump payment or over the remaining 11 months by DD.

It's probably reasonable to fear the worst now with Bart
at 11:05 26 Mar 2018

He's confirmed that we failed to agree a fee with Palace in January. So they made a bid but it was short of what we were looking for.

Bart has always said he's happy here and would not want to move, but the way that potential move has been talked about, you can only assume the club made him aware and that if a fee had been agreed, he would likely have left. It's an hour down the road, he doesn't have to move his family who love it here either.

Would anyone be surprised if he held out for a summer move there? I don't think Bart is the type to hold the club to ransom or mess us around. He seems an outstanding bloke. But he also has to do what's best for his family and that could mean that, through his agent, he leaves us for free or gets a huge wage increase to stay here and sign a new deal.

You also cannot blame the guy, after achieving his ultimate dream, of wanting to play in the Premier League, something that looks a million miles off with us, and force his way into regular Poland involvement. He'd be mad if he didn't take that chance if it came along.

The fact the deal has not yet been signed, two months on, is very worrying. We are somewhat the victims of Bart's own success, there may well be failings at the club. I just hope whatever happens people are quick to jump on Bart's back, if he does leave us at a disadvantage.

It's been a pleasure watching him the last 3 years and I can't remember a player that has ever won us so many points consistently, almost single handedly, over such a long period.

I wish him well whatever he does. I desperately hope we keep him, but it does seem as if it's looking pretty slim now.

For those of you that like to leave early!
at 10:02 26 Mar 2018

I was fortunate to have seen both the 3-3 draw at Barnsley when we scored 3 in the last 5 minutes and be one of the few that saw Counago score against Coventry in the 97th minute.

It's probably down to living a short walk from the ground and not driving (the home game that is not Oakwell!). But the Kidderminster v Salford game was a good reminder of why you should try not to leave early!

Salford were 4-0 down after 80 minutes. 4-1 down after 90 minutes!!! Ended up a 4-4 draw!

It will be very interesting to see how the club handles the next move
at 09:19 26 Mar 2018

First of all, credit to Marcus Evans for both reducing the prices and acknowledging the mistake made last year.

10% is a significant reduction. We'd have all preferred Huddersfield or Bradford prices no doubt, but those reductions are few and far between. When the dust settles, this will be one of the biggest reductions in the division, if not the biggest, regardless of whether people feel they were over-priced to start with.

The managerial move though is now even bigger on the back of this. The early bird deadline comes before the manager announcement will likely be made. If Mick is not to stay, given we aren't going up or down, then we really should be told before April 30th.

If not, then this deadline becomes even more important. There could be hundreds of fans waiting to see if he leaves before renewing, who then decide that they can't justify paying the increased rate after the deadline. Hopefully, this will be extended as it has before.

If they keep McCarthy after people have gobbled up the 10% reduction on the back of expecting him to leave then there could be more disgruntled fans than before the reduction was announced and it will unfortunately be viewed as a sweetener in keeping Mick against the majority of fans wishes. The good will earned will immediately vanish.

It's impossible to know with Evans, but all you can really say at this point is well done for both lowering prices and apologising. Again, the apology may mean little to people but there's always been a genuine concern Evans is completely out of touch with fans. At least this shows that he does appreciate he got it wrong.

I didn't realise how bad our goalscoring record was since Christmas
at 11:35 20 Mar 2018

If you include the Wolves game two days before then the record reads:

Played 17, Scored 10 (0.58 goals per game)

9 games we have failed to score, leaving 8 matches we have scored in. 1 goal in 8 games and only 2 matches in those 17 where we've netted twice (Sheffield Wednesday and Sunderland).

Before that:

Played 24, Scored 41 (1.71 goal per game)

So before the Wolves home game on 23 December, we'd averaged THREE times as many goals per game as we have since.

Someone posted something the other day showing we got more points per game in the first half of every MM season than in the second. Is this simply him being more cautious in the second half of the season when the games are running out?

One season can be down to form and players losing form (for example Murphy in 2014/15 had a dip) but surely not every season?

If this form were to continue, we'd be looking at 4 games of the last 8 where we don't score and 5 goals in total in those 8 matches. It would mean we are likely to take another 8 points from the 24 available.

15th here we come!

Well that's the 'Warnock is identical to McCarthy' suggestion dispelled
at 09:03 20 Mar 2018

I've seen a few suggest they are effectively the same manager, although Warnock has 7 or 8 promotions, a great deal many more than Mick has.

Warnock was just asked what made him happy on TalkSport and his answer was effectively:

'The contentment I get when I'm sat in my slippers with a cup of tea after the game knowing that kids are going home with their parents or grandparents having enjoyed the game. The contentment that football gives you knowing that you and the club have the power to send people home happy, having enjoyed themselves and with a smile on their face'.

What a fantastic answer and perspective. So much of that seems to have gone out of the business of football, the fact it is a game, the fact people pay money to be entertained and go home having enjoyed themselves.

I honestly feel with Mick that it's all about him and the players from his point of view. The fans and the club seem to come across as an after thought. So refreshing to hear a manager who feels the two are entwined and that everyone involved with the club can enjoy performances and results together and strive for those.

Surely not. Had forgotten all about him! There's no chance we'd host a potential manager at the ground with Mick still in place. Surely any such meeting would be done in London or private?
