I'm not gonna pretend I understand what's happening completely. But can tell by the replies that this isn't an overly popular tweet.

But its surely its no co-incidence he's posted it immediately after a massive terrorist attack by Hamas?

The alternative take would presumably be that he's posting this with it being clear that Palestine (Gaza specifically) will be subject to imminent military action.

Heโ€™s been tweeting, retweeting and liking posts supporting Palestine consistently for the past couple of years (and longer I suspect, before he signed here and I followed him). So itโ€™s not like heโ€™s suddenly decided to pick his moment.

What if he didn't know about the attack at the time of posting? He did say that he condems the actions of hammas and he doesn't support then so he could just be posting an image of "free palestine"

He posted it this morning if i've understand the twitter/X timestamps correctly. Highly unlikely.

I'm not going to link the tweet he put up this morning as I think it's a bit too much for some of the TWTD younger audiences, but safe to say Morsy is going to alienate some here.

It's not the support for Palestine I find offensive. I share that. It's the timing of it after a major Hama's terror attack combined with the lack of any unprompted comment about the innocent Israeli victims who have seen their children raped beheaded etc.

He retweeted this the other day as well, I don't like the whole "stick to x" which is said to famous people who go outside their lane, but think he may need to be more careful

"Zinchenko spent 2 whole years crying about illegal occupation and killing of Ukrainians by Russians, only to then turn around and publicly supports Israel in their illegal occupation of Palestinian lands and killing of women and children. Stupid hypocrite"

Agree don't believe women and children should be murdered But it has happened in lots of countries and wars Yemen Cambodia Rwanda
to name a few. The Palestinians have been treated appalling for years thousands have been murdered by the Israelis nothing said by USA OR UK governments.

I'm sure you haven't done this but I loathe X now as, unless you have an account, it loads 'tweets' in a random order. Just went to look on Morsy's account and the first unpinned tweet I can see is a retweet of Chris Williamson from 2022. It makes it impossible to follow what's going on and people's latest posts.

Definitely a first world problem, though.

That is precisely because Israel is being backed by the Western world at large especially the US of A. This has forced the Palestinians to "ally" or align themselves with the pariahs of the world such as Iran, North Korea, Cuba and more discreetly Russia and Communist China.

However unlike the rogue states mentioned above, Palestine isn't one. HAMAS isn't a state actor. The problem of Palestine is a historical leftover from the British Mandate pretty similar to the China/Taiwan or North Korea/South Korea divide.

Sam Morsy was born in Wolverhampton.

Whats that got to do with anything?

He tweeted this in support of Palestine, not Hamas, and since he did around 1000 Palestinians have been killed by air strikes. Innocent people are dying on both sides.

Focus your ire on the bad actors in this conflict, not our captain for expressing his opinion.

He's a footballer, not a politician and he's not Palestinian. Lastly as lots have said, his timing was atrocious, insensitive

You can't lose sight of the decades of history behind this conflict and allow a new narrative to be created though. As I said earlier in the thread, you should be able to express a Pro-Palestinian opinion without supporting the actions of Hamas.

Can we all just pretend this didn't happen? I like watching morsy play football. I'd rather not know what his views are on anything other than football. Now in my mind he occupies the same space as the protesters shouting 'f**k the jews' at the opera house the other night. Bloody international break means i don't get to be distracted by how good he is at footy for an extra week too.

I don't see Cuba as a pariah, or as part of that club. For sure it is dangerous to speak out against the regime whilst you are there (sadly this seems to be true of half the World now) but, given the united States blockade, living standards are decent and life expectancy is to European levels. The shift in Russian politics towards support of the state for the Russian Orthodox church does not sit easily with socialist Cuba's principles and they have recently taken significant steps to prevent a recruitment drive for soldiers to fight in Ukraine:

https://www.reuters.com/world/cuba-russia-working-case-cubans-recruited-russian-

Cuba has some influence elsewhere in the Caribbean and Latin America by virtue of being the nation that stood up to the local superpower (although as the Reuters report above they still have a long way to go to stand up to another superpower) so I suggest that there is a great deal of potential for more democratisation there, and some acknowledgement of their resiliance. Kazakhstan is another nation with similar difficulties in distancing itself from Russia (in its case from a Muslim majority rather than a socialist perspective.)

It's the timing thing. For context - pro-palestinian peaceful protest at the sydney opera house the other night. The protest was because the opera house sails were lit up with the israeli flag. A couple of the more enthusiastic sh*tstirring anti-semites among their number started making themselves heard towards the end, therefore ruining it for everyone.

So you'd rather liken him to the anti-Semites than those that were peacefully protesting? He's been pretty clear he doesn't support violence on either side. Not sure why people would seek to exaggerate and mis-represent his views on an Ipswich Town forum.

Morsy is someone who is clearly very proud of his religion and heritage so it's not hard to see why he takes such a strong pro-Palestinian stance. The 'timing' is him showing support for Palestine in this conflict, and imo is preposterous to say it aligns him with the most unsavoury people and events like you've described.
