Tranmere (a) roll call
at 19:16 17 Jan 2020

Already well into a 2-hour free bar in our hotel in Liverpool, before heading out to do some proper old-fashioned boozers.

At least Boris isn't guilty of either of those accusations. Oh.

There is no Grand Central train currently showing back after the game. Their website has the same warning.

Last time I remember having this hassle on the East Coast route,, cheap Advance tickets never went on sale. t

This trip is going to be an expensive ballache.

The main Easy Coast timetable has not been confirmed, I think due to engineering works between KX and Peterborough. So, no Advance tickets yet, and no seat reservations are available until the timetable is confirmed.

There is likely to be a very limited service down that line, so trains will be very busy, and it may be that Advance tickets will be very limited in number and relatively expensive.

There are only about a hundred coming, but they're all welcome. They were great when we were at their place.

ITFC Women away to Huddersfield in FAC4
at 19:26 6 Jan 2020

We are at the top of our league, which is 4th tier, but that is higher than it sounds, as the top two are only 23 teams in total. Promotion would get us into the third tier, which is North / South and 12 teams in each. So we are currently equal 48th, pretty close to where the men's team is!

Promotion has to be a real possibility - our form is good, and we have looked a cut above the rest of our league so far.

Not the big tie we wanted - tough test though, as Huddersfield are one league above us, currently in 5th place.

Winnable, though, given our showing v similarly-ranked Portsmouth yesterday...b

Guess it'll be Sunday 26th...

Positives about the game:
at 09:48 5 Jan 2020

Bishop and Sears both really needed the game time and both were impressive. Keane took his goal really well. But we cannot defend our own 6-yard box. Grr. Second half we were actually quite good. El Miz is going to be a real player.

Briarbank and Lord Nelson, by the waterfront. Cricketers is not the worst Wetherspoon, and breaks the journey between the Halberd and the Wookpack.

Pubs for today
at 10:37 21 Dec 2019

Nearest away-friendly pub to the ground is the brilliant "Staggeringly Good Brewery", just north of the ground in a little industrial estate. I was in there last night. Fabulous selection of home-brewed craft beers, many over 7% abv.

Not a place for necking pints of lagerade though. Partly because it's not cheap, partly because they don't sell lagerade.

Leasing a car as opposed to buying
at 22:12 19 Dec 2019

I had a Mondeo on a 3 year lease and it worked brilliantly. Fixed monthly cost included servicing and even tyres, and the lack of hassle when some idiot destroyed the back end on the A14 was great - I handed the car over and collected a high-spec Merc C class for the 3 months it took to repair.

Best of all, I took it over to France a month before the end of the lease period. France has much more stringent tyre standards than UK, so the tyres were borderline for France but fine in UK. They replaced all 4 free of charge.

Coventry away - pub help needed!

Nothing much near the ground. Most stay in the city centre or around the Digbeth area en route to the ground. Wellington good for real ale bores. Wetherspoons' Briar Rose does not allow football fans in colours.

Stadium tour of Croke Park, which include the Gaelic Athletic Association museum. Much better than it sounds - it gives a real insight into the history of Ireland, through a perspective you could never get over here. A few interactive bits to have a bash at some gaelic sports too.

hadn't paid much attention thus far, but World Cup 2022 starts Nov 21st
at 18:52 18 Nov 2019

It'll help those countries who play summer football, though most won't qualify...
Others will have a longish break. It is likely to end up with the season before and after having a half-break so there is still a summer close season.

Leagues One and Two will continue. Under current rules, Town won't have enough players in the World Cup to get games called off.

I saw it at the New Wolsey Theatre a couple of weeks ago, and found it fascinating. The programme made it clear that it was not entirely factual, but explained why / how.
