Men of TWtD - I need your advice 10:02 - Aug 24 with 5131 viewsGlasgowBlue

Ladies of TWTD, your own perspective would be greatly appreciated.

We play Shef Wed on Saturday 17 September.

17 September happens to be my 25th wedding anniversary, and coincidentally the Mrs and I will be in Leeds for Radio 2 live.

Leeds to Sheffield is about 45 minutes by rail, and it will only be Kaiser Chiefs, Sophie Ellis‐Bextor and Ella Henderson on stage at the time I would be in transit and at the game. At a push I may miss Bananarama.

So I reckon I could leave the Mrs for about 3 hours to get pissed in the bar whilst I dashed to watch the super blues batter Wednesday.

All things considered, should I even consider this?

While missing Sophie Ellis Bexter is one of the positives, you’d have to be mad to contemplate it

One of 50-odd games in a League One season?

Radio 2 live. Rock and Roll.

FFS mate, do both of you a favour and take her to the game too.

Edit: Serious answer - no way you should abandon her and go to the game.

I had a similar dilemma a few years ago

Had arranged a day out in Norwich for my wife's birthday. Weeks later we sneaked into the play offs and got Nodge at home the same day.

Luckily Wife Sentence has q good sense of humour and tortured me for a few days before agreeing to go with our daughter instead.

They did go to the budgies shop and buy me something from it, but we got over that and are back together.

Does she like getting pissed in bars? If so, it could work.

As others have said. No chance.

However, take her to the game. 👍

That's how she met Glassers

Have a game of hide and seek... disappear for 3 hours, then tell her she's rubbish at hide and seek.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

As I see it she is letting you got to the footie as a 25th anniversary present. Seems a no brainer.

Tell her that an anniversary is just a date and can be celebrated any time. And go to the game. Job done!

On second thoughts, I forgot a wedding anniversary once. It didn’t go well. I think you’d better stay with her and give the game a miss.

I wouldn't, I'd have to sew them back on again if I did.

Probably not advisable if you want a 26th wedding anniversary.

Enjoy Sophie Ellis-Bextor!

She'll say it's fine in the way they do when you know they really don't mean it. There'll be other games...

Buy her 3 extra Anniversary presents (congrats to you both btw) - a new away shirt, a new 3rd kit shirt as revealed yesterday, & a ticket to the game.

This is a particularly high risk strategy though, as dear Network Rail are obvs particularly dodgy in their reliability these days & you could end up stuck in a tunnel (go, punners of TWTD) for 3 hours, thus missing both the game *and* Bananarama. This would then have the follow-on repercussion of it being dragged up in every argument thereafter at the "and another thing" stage

The obvious answer is she should go to the game with you.

PS do you self a favour and don’t rush back…..missing Bananarama is not a bad idea.

If I was in the same boat I would ask my missus if she fancied taking in the Wednesday game while we’re there. She would almost certainly tell me to go if I wanted to. I would then try to read the body language and tone of voice. My missus would probably want to go shopping although she does take in the occasional game. I believe Meadowhall Shopping centre is half decent and a 40 min tram ride from the ground (According to Google) Is Ed Sheeran playing? You could ask him for a lift.

I'm at a wedding that day.....................in Sheffield!

My Mrs has said I can miss the ceremony to go to the game, but am not going to as it's a bit of a p155take on the bride and groom.

Sure your Mrs wouldn't mind, but it's one of those where if something goes wrong, or travel plans go up the swanny then you look a massive tw*t!

If you want to celebrate your 26th, don't do it, if you're not fussed, go. 25yrs is a blink of an eye anyway.

Yeah, I predict a riot if he goes ahead with this.

Seriously, I have a few, contradictory, thoughts.

On the "go for it" side:
1. GlasgowBlue lives in Glasgow, so it's not often he is a short hop away from a Town game. I would at least feel able to raise it with my wife.

Reasons to stay at the concert:
1. It will take way longer than 3 hours to get from a gig to the game and back. Crowds take ages to wade through, then queues. Lots of stress making it back "in time".

2. I saw Sophie Ellis-Bextor at one of those retro festivals. She put in a lot more effort than most of the acts and it was a fun, high energy, 30 minute set. She also was wearing a mirrored catsuit. Striking!

3. Kaiser Chiefs in Leeds is a pretty decent thing to see, unless you absolutely hate them. A big homecoming gig by a decent act with enough "hits" to full their 30 minutes with stuff you know, even if you aren't a fan.

Conclusion:

If MrsGlasgow realised that it would make GBs wedding anniversary to see the game, and would be willing to go it him, and isn't too bothered about the acts she will miss, then take her to the game, then on to the gig. Splash out on a taxi, though, to and from the station.

My wife would consider that a terrific anniversary present and break my legs if I didn't take her!
