For the best. He was awful vs Colchester.

Made a terrible mistake, which happens, but didn’t think his overall game was horrendous.

Will likely mean there is another addition in the central midfield role though, possibly an experienced mould like Keogh.

Maybe a bit harsh, but he was no where near what we need as an Evans/Morsy back up. Wayward in his passing, never looked to drop the ball into the channels despite Jackson making the runs and always looked for the safer option (and even got that wrong on more than one occasion). He would have lost us games if he had to start.

In his defence he did cover the back 3 when one of them was out of position (mostly Vincent-Young).

Just Penney to move on now you’d think.

His arrival was one of the more exciting of that bizarre summer, but he’s never looked at it with us. Worryingly for him he could keep falling down the football pyramid as he needs to make an impact during this loan or he’ll find himself struggling for other options in L1 and a very long way from the hype surrounding him a couple of years ago.

On the flip side it might mean that McK has put a bit more trust in Humphreys as a back up to Morsy, though we perhaps do look a player light given two CMs out on loan

Hopefully indicates no long term concerns over Ball’s fitness. When fit you would have to assume he’s next in line behind Evans / Morsy. As others have said, hopefully means Cam Humphries gets some bench time as that 4th head in there.

Poll: Will Boris Johnson be PM this time next week?

No I don't think he was ready to be a back up in the squad yet.

Also easy to forget however he has only recently turned 22, a year younger than Andre Dozzell, 4 years younger than Teddy Bishop for example - he doesn't look it, but he's still a young young lad with lots of room and time for development.

Way to early to write him off, and players have come from further down in the pecking order to key members of the squad - Donacien the notable one, he was being loaned out to Accrington and Fleetwood a couple of years ago (aged 26), look how integral he is now to us.
