Thread | The difference in quality between these 2 teams is huge

Middlesborough putting in lots of effort, for limited reward, whereas what Leeds do looks effortless. Every pass finds it's mark, they are clinical in the final third, and player for player they are head and shoulders above Middlesborough. This second half they have just killed the game, let Boro have the ball, but still looked most likely to score more.

You can see why we were in for him in the Summer.
He may have taken a while to settle in at Coventry, but he has all the tools to play that no. 9 role exactly the way McKenna wants it. Really mobile, great touch, uses the ball well, physical unit.
If we'd manage to get him as well as Hirst in the Summer (if that was the intention), then we'd have had the league sown up by now. |

We shouldn't be surprised, given some of the other results in recent weeks, but a bang out of form Cardiff with nothing to play for, getting the win against Southampton shows once again that any game could throw up an odd result.

Leicester have lost 6 of the last 10, we've not won in 3, Leeds have only won one in 5, and despite Southampton just winning 3 home games on the spin, they were 3 without a win before that, and also lost to Bristol City, Millwall and Hull in quick succession in February.
Of course any of us may hit peak form for the run in, but its just as likely that odd results will crop up. |

That Leicester defeat last night, coupled with minor wobbles for both Leeds and us in the last two games, shows that the pressure really is starting to bite.
A couple of weeks ago there was a very real chance of 3 teams getting 100 points plus, but now its unlikely that any of us will.
Just need to hold our nerve today and ensure we go into the break in the best position possible, and then just wait and see where we sit going into the last 3.
This is what being a supporter is all about though, going to games every week where there is so much riding on the result, obsessively watching all the other results to see what lands in our favour, and generally being invested in every kick of every match.

Bloody hell.
No hiding from the frustration of the last 2 games, but what an amazing position to be in. Whatever happens from here this has been an amazing season from a group of players with levels of resilience and determination that we've not seen in an Ipswich shirt for years.

Strong and athletic team, well drilled, and not especially interested in taking the game to us other than a short spell in either half. And when a team of good players at this level decide to spoil the game its very, very, hard to open them up. That game had nil nil stamped on it from early in the second half - they didn't really ask too many questions of us, but equally made sure that we didn't really threaten them too much either. I thought it was telling that they just killed time with that corner at the end - a team with nothing to play for just keeping the ball in the corner for a draw, rather than try and nick the game.
We really should have taken one of our chances in the strong 15 minutes at the end of the first half - second half would have been a stroll if we had.
Its a missed opportunity for us, but not a disaster, and we still sit in second with 4 games to go.

As exciting as we generally are at home, we've played a pretty cagey game away from home all season, and coming out the right side of margins in games very similar to today has been our speciality.
So, whilst the performance today was clearly not good, the general pattern of the game shouldn't have been too surprising - ie not open at all, and few clear chances for either team.
Two huge home games coming up this week, and with a long break after those we can throw every last ounce of effort into them to ensure we get the points. [Post edited 6 Apr 16:39]

I know this is one that divides opinion, but for me we look a much better team with Clarke on the pitch.
Tuanzebe is a definite downgrade going forward, and I'm unconvinced he's a better defender. |

In added time, when Al Hamadi was cleaned out by the last man. Ref tried an advantage, then gave us the free kick and booked their player. Clear professional foul denying Al Hamadi a clear run on goal.
