Dobra, El Mizouni, Ndaba, McGavin and Drinan 08:48 - Aug 28 with 19128 viewsitfcjoe

Turned up for the team photo yesterday, told that they aren't in it.

Then subsequently told that they won't be taking part in the Cambridge friendly on Saturday and will be playing for the U23s tonight against Norwich instead.

Tough love? Or just an indication that they aren't going to be involved very much and we'll be going with same senior players again.

He’s such a c*ck. Why has he got this massive chip on his shoulder for?

We could end up playing football like prime Barcelona and winning the league at a canter and I’ll still want him gone.

If that's true, what signal does that send to the young players ? Especially Dobra & El Mizouni. He knows his necks on the line and doesn't trust them. Why wouldn't you at least want them in your match day squad and on the bench? No doubt he will send them out on loan.

These kids must be gutted by this, if it’s true. They may as well go out on loan then. They’ll gain absolutely nothing playing 8n the U23’s

FUMING

I want the **** gone now. I was prepared to give him a chance at the start of the season but he can do one.

Evans and O'Neill have BOTH stated that we need to build a team around the kids and reiterated this will be more important this season post COVID. Given the salary cap this is also now the way we have to go.

Lambert is not just turning away players with squad numbers, he is turning away the likes of Drinan who 5 minutes ago he said had played his way into contention.

Worse still based on pre-season, the likes of El Mizouni, Ndaba and Drinan have actually all played themselves into the 18 arguably, with Dobra already there. McGavin is some way off probably due to the stupid number of midfielders we had.

But in no way does this make the players work harder because they've worked hard, played well, been praised and then told to **** off. This is exactly the reason why we were so poor last season. Players knew if they played well they'd probably still lose the shirt so there was less incentive to try.

These players now know, as do ALL youngsters at the club that they can work hard, play well and still - not only just not be in the team - but not even be considered part of the first team squad - when they were actually part of it last year and should be closer to it this year, through playing well, through the salary cap, through Evans actually stated model.

Now let this sink in. Not just that they were left out. Which is damning enough. But they TURNED UP at the photoshoot to be told they were not included. WTF.

This is the fruit of Lambert reflecting on last season for 5 months and deciding what little thinks to tweak. I know. I'll treat any young player who might be ready to improve the current shower disgracefully. That'll get them playing for me.

What a ***** ****** *** ******** ********* ***** ***

Obviously we know nothing more than the two facts presented here - the players weren't included in the photo, and will be playing against Norwich tonight. We don't know the reasoning behind it.

To add a counter-point, it could be as simple as the photo having been planned out to utilise a particular number of players/staff, and Lambert wanting to put out a strong side tonight to beat Norwich.

Why would you invite them all down for the photo and then tell them they're not in it?Absolute stupidity yet again from Shambert, it is just complete disrespect.

Dobra has not played pre-season at all has he?

The other 4 have had a fair amount of involvement, especially Drinan. Why would you not include them in the team photo? It's not as if we have a limit on the number of players we can use is there? Of course none of them should expect a place in any match squad but they should at least see the opportunity. As much as this could be to push them to try harder, what is the message to the senior players? Your place isn't under threat from these ones at least?

Yes. Lambert's masterplan to beat Norwich is to allow half that side to turn up for the photoshoot and tell them they aren't wanted.

Bound to get them really fired up!

It also means that for our final pre season friendly, usually the one that will give an indication of team for first game - they aren't even deemed ready for a place on the bench......so very unlikey to be in the 18 (or is it 20 this year?) for the early league games

From a motivation point of view he should have told Nolan, Judge and a couple of others they weren't in the photo.

They are senior pros that have the ability to stand out at League One level and they've both been utterly atrocious for the past 12 months.

If any one needs tough love and to be disrespected it's these sorts, not the kids waiting desperately for a chance to show what they can do.

It's the same as non football management in many respects. If you take someone into an office and give them the courtesy of 20 minutes to explain why you're making such decisions, and you can offer a compelling enough reason ie getting 90 minutes rather than 20, then there's perhaps no issue.

If you let someone turn up thinking they're involved and then exclude them then of course it can be damaging. That's the difference between good managers and not, they're charismatic and can sell their vision. A Mick or Joe Royle, they could tell you they're about to sh*g your wife and after 30 minutes in a room with them you come out agreeing its a good idea.

Similar thing happened with Woolfenden in the West Ham game - turned up in his Ipswich tracksuit thinking he would be playing and then Lambert says he won't be involved and sends him off without any notice. Pictured outside a restaurant in his Ipswich kit after kickoff.

Obviously made worse by Lambert slagging him off in the post-match interview. Pretty poor from him considering his only strength is meant to be motivating players.

Which means that any pretense that Lambert cares about developing our young players is shot to bits. He's going to rely on the likes of Nolan, Edwards and Judge to give us a bit of spark again. I'm sure that'll work just fine.
