McGoldrick £8m Leicester Target
Saturday, 30th Aug 2014 08:18

Town and Premier League new boys Leicester City are in talks regarding an £8 million deal for striker David McGoldrick, according to various reports this morning.

Some sources are reporting that the Blues have already turned down a £6.5 million offer for the 26-year-old and that the frontman will miss today's game with a dead leg.

McGoldrick joined Town initially on loan from Nottingham Forest in January 2013, scoring four goals in 13 games and one sub appearance.

Having been released by Forest he put pen to paper on a permanent deal the following summer.

Last season he scored 16 goals before suffering a partial tear of the medial ligament in his right knee in February and missed the rest of the campaign.

He returned to action in pre-season and scored in the opening day victory over Fulham at Portman Road.

When McGoldrick signed his permanent deal with Town it was reported that he had agreed a two-year contract, however, manager Mick McCarthy said in April that the striker’s deal stretches beyond next summer, suggesting that the Blues have an option for a further season, although he wouldn’t go into details.

“He’s got more than a year to run," he said. “But his contract details are personal and for me to know and not you.”

While the Blues would be loath to lose their star striker, it would be difficult to turn down an offer of the size reported or to deny McGoldrick the chance to play in the Premier League. The transfer window closes at 11pm on Monday evening.

It's depressing to think that we will have only 19 1st team players on the books if we sell McG and even scarier to think without McG the players we have left only scored something like 20+ goals the entire season.

He's the only player at the club worth paying to watch. What chance of replacing him let alone addressing the quality shortfall that we have? Certainly there has
been no evidence running up to this season that they even acknowledge that there is a problem.

Personally if I was Mick I would accept the offer providing that the money will be invested back into the team however I doubt it will be. 8million is a massive offer for a player who's only had one good season at this level but my worry is that losing him we're letting our best player go so late in the window with such little time to replace him and also knowing how he's gone for other clubs will probably make us pay over the odds for any player we did go for.

£8Mn is a lot of dosh, but will Mick have a chance to spend any of it with the transfer window closing Monday. Only re-opens in January doesn't it with only loanees & out of contract players available to sign in the meantime? I am starting to panic about this possible sale!!

If we sell him than I think MM expects to be given monies. If not MM and TC will probably leave.

This has actually made me feel sick! I know one player doesn't make a team but we all saw how our game changed when he came on at Fulham and he was the only player against Norwich who actually ran at them and looked like he could make something happen.
8 mil is a lot of money and some of you are saying good business, but we've seen that the Cresswell money did not go into buying any new players. You know what'll happen if he goes, it'll be Murphy and Sammon up front and we may get in a couple of loan players so we can pay their wages but we won't get a suitable replacement. Dark days guys if this happens...

Cant believe people are still going on about the cresswell money not being used. We've signed 4 players since he left plus sammon on loan. How do ypu think the signing on fees, agents fees and loan fee was paid? Allcame from the cresswell fee that we've received so far. As for thia story. Whileit would be very disappointing to say the least to lose mcgoldrick I cant see how the club could turn down that kind of offer. As good a player as he has been for us he certainly is not worth that kind of money and despite the negativity of many on here of course the money would be reinvested. Whether wed get the players us fans would like to see is un certaon aa ot would be mm who decides that. And lets face it, he does appear to have a certain type of player he likes. Which is not necessarily what we need.

What would people say to the possibility of still bumping along in the Championship in three or four seasons' time, but being virtually debt-free as a club?

we'll know if it's paper talk or not when today's team is announced! it's McGoldrick's opportunity to play in the premier league so can't stand in his way.
In respect of Evans.....he says he won't sell. Reason he hasn't is because no one has or will offer enough to cover the debt to him sitting on town's balance sheet!
like most owners he's driven by the riches the premier league offers....so won't walk away. he won't sell, won't invest anymore so we're set for battling for our championship place for a very long time to come

Oh dear - the one exciting player we have left.
Yes, it's a lot of money to reinvest but..
A) Will MM be given it all to spend?
B) if he does, I'm not overly optimistic based on his liking for dull workmanlike players, and apparent dislike for any sort of flair / excitement.

I suppose it would cement our place in the league (mid table) if that's the aim.

McGoldrick just has to be kept!! If we have any ambition at all,we have to keep hold of our main man.McGoldrick can play in the premiership with Ipswich,Then we can sell him on for £20M!! We have to build our squad on from last year,if not what is the point???

As long as it it is 8m clear then it's a no- brainier. Take the money, re-invest in youngsters and build a team for the future. This season is a write off anyway whether it's with McGoldrick or not.

if it is just newspaper BS then that comment by mccarthy that any bids will be up to the owner to accept or reject seems like a massive coinicdence

£8m is a ridiculous amount for him and we could buy three quality players for that. I like Didz and would rather him stay, but not for £8m... As long as MM gets the cash and in time to spend it then SELL.

If true he will be gone no doubt about it we are already playing long ball this year we need to get back to playing football through the team but with the teams being set up as they are no chance of that

cats_whiskers added 09:37 - Aug 30
Maybe McCarthy is hoping to get Kevin Phillips in part exchange

So that's 8 million that will be paid in installations of a fiver a week and go towards the paint for the turnstiles which need painting again as they are going rusty due to lack of use

cornishnick added 09:39 - Aug 30
If he goes, who would score the goals? Would we trust that the money would be reinvested in the squad? And who could we get in such short time? A relegation scrap on the cards

Hmmm, cant see it TBH...
8mil for a player that hasnt really hit fire since recovering from an injery and has no garrentee of making there first team...
However, could be marriots time to shine...

I think some of you guys have been sniffing glue... £8m. No one would turn down that offer, not even one of the relegated clubs for DM. If we've turned down £6.5m, then ME needs applauding, even that amount is too much for him.

Have to say if we say no his form will drop as will his price come january ,commercially it makes huge sense to move him on ,then we can re build much of the side.

McCormack went for £11m and is 28 so £8m is possible... Its also true that Leicester will find spending their money hard because players who are actually worth that sort of cash might not see Leicester as the right career move. I agree with whoever said that if he goes and MM didn't get the cash he would probably walk. Also I made this point yesterday blues1 about how the cresswell money which we get in instalments has already had a large chunk taken out of it with the 5 signings we've made. If we get £8m (Plus lose Didz wages) that cash has to cover fees, wages, signing on fees and agents fees. However with that cash and the cash that is clearly still in the kitty(boosted by savings on Taylor and Woody's wages) I trust MM to use it to make the team better than it is now.. We are lucky to have MM and I think the style of football is down to the players he has and can afford. He knows you have to get results, no one wants us to look pretty and get beat 5-0.
