McGoldrick £8m Leicester Target
Saturday, 30th Aug 2014 08:18

Town and Premier League new boys Leicester City are in talks regarding an £8 million deal for striker David McGoldrick, according to various reports this morning.

Some sources are reporting that the Blues have already turned down a £6.5 million offer for the 26-year-old and that the frontman will miss today's game with a dead leg.

McGoldrick joined Town initially on loan from Nottingham Forest in January 2013, scoring four goals in 13 games and one sub appearance.

Having been released by Forest he put pen to paper on a permanent deal the following summer.

Last season he scored 16 goals before suffering a partial tear of the medial ligament in his right knee in February and missed the rest of the campaign.

He returned to action in pre-season and scored in the opening day victory over Fulham at Portman Road.

When McGoldrick signed his permanent deal with Town it was reported that he had agreed a two-year contract, however, manager Mick McCarthy said in April that the striker’s deal stretches beyond next summer, suggesting that the Blues have an option for a further season, although he wouldn’t go into details.

“He’s got more than a year to run," he said. “But his contract details are personal and for me to know and not you.”

While the Blues would be loath to lose their star striker, it would be difficult to turn down an offer of the size reported or to deny McGoldrick the chance to play in the Premier League. The transfer window closes at 11pm on Monday evening.

Not difficult for me, sell is a must.
8 million for a guy that cost nothing and has just recovered or recovering from a major leg injury is a no brainer, we are only quoting this fee as Premier League clubs are being strangled for cash so close to the window.
I am nearly at Derby and the service station is awash with blue but the chat is sell and move on.
Some of the chat is amazing on here, face facts we average 17k crowds, in debt to the tune of 80 million, if it was your business what would you do?

£8m is a lot of money at this level, but I personally wouldn't take it at this moment in time.

There are only a few days left of the transfer window and, by selling off our best player (admittedly for a lot of cash), we're still leaving ourselves short up front and desperately scrambling around to make replacements, that's assuming the money is even reinvested in the squad, which I doubt most of it would be. Anyway, teams will know we're desperate for reinforcements and will hike up their asking price in the wake of the £8m deal.

I'd rather keep McGoldrick for the first half of the season and, assuming he continues to score and make an impact, look to sell him for a potentially higher fee in January with the replacements already lined up.

The worst case scenario is selling our best player, failing to replace or reinvest the money into the squad and then be left with a real shortage of quality up front. We'd seriously struggle without his goals and creativity. At this point in time, is that a risk we'd like to take?

Out with a dead leg?

Our owner really does think we are stupid!

If this happened before the window shuts, how much time have we to replace him...................NIL!

8 mill is a lot of money but in the context of our season he could be worth much more. Leicester have plenty of stikers though. I don't see it, fingers crossed

@blues1 go back and listen to that interview again sunshine. Evans didn't say how much he had been offered for the club or even confirm that he would get his money back. He merely stated that he had received enquiries from interested parties. Try sticking to the facts yourself.

Similarly in your previous post you state Creswell money used for agent fees, signing on fees, and loan fees. A fact for you is that total agent fees for the whole of last season circa £350k and you don't pay a signing on fee for a loan player you pay some/all of their wages. So as you're a fan of facts try sticking to them. We sold Creswell for an initial fee of £5 million ?? (there or thereabouts) and you reckon that has gone in agent fees, signing on fees and loan fees. That is what is known as double accounting.

Key board warriors like you come on here bullying others who dare have a different view to yours but you should rein your neck in as you're in the minority in applauding everything McCarthy and Evans do while increasing numbers are starting to question both of them more and more.

Of course we haven't sold McGoldrick yet and the transfer window is open until Monday night so Mick/Evans could still go and spend some of the Creswell funds and potentially McGoldrick funds to. When the transfer window closes we will all know the FACTS and no doubt opinions might differ on where we stand. In the scenario where we don't bring in new signings ahead of Monday night I've no doubt you and the rest of the happy clappy brigade will be saying well don't panic we can still bring in loan players but that will be ground hog day as we expose ourselves to recalls and developing other clubs talent.

I'd love to be proved wrong as no fun in watching Town struggle on and off the pitch.

£8m + Nugent and Wood. That'd be a different option.

Why is it the owners fault he is out with a dead leg. Unless me kneed him when taking him over to Leicester for talks

TimmyH added 11:16 - Aug 30
...agreed! dead leg all of a sudden. The talk yesterday was all about Tommy Smith and Crystal Palace, whose to say he won't go too...if one or either goes I wouldn't trust the club for one second to to use the transfer money (majority) on a replacement/replacements and as another poster mentioned other clubs will be all to aware we have money to spend. No time too to bye any players in if McG does go.

Boss man. We sold cresswell for an initial3.75mill not 5. And no u dont pay a signing on fee to the player in a loan deal but u do pay a loan fee to the club you loaning him from. Also me obviously wouldnt accept an offer unless it get him his money back I accept but he clearly stated that he rejected these offers as he has no interest in selling the club. (A club he is a supporter of). Which he clarified by saying that if he had wanted to sell tbw club he could easily have done so and bought a season ticket. Thus taking all the pressure of being the owner off him. So as u see I stickinh to facts.

Well said and well put Bossman.
OldClactonBlue - no show of problems before this season? Have you been asleep for the last seven, or even more, years?

Professional football culture has changed so much. What are the options if the decision is NOT to sell? Keep him by upping his wages, thereby alienating all the other players? What does McGoldrick think? What will he think is best for HIM? The 'club for life' notion has gone. We're now in a world of short term contracts and loans. What about the future? As Bob Wilson said the other day, about Arsenal's striker problem, 'You can only buy who's available, and for a fee you can afford.' What will be, will be.

I'd say yes yes yes !!!! But I don't think any of it will be reinvested .... therefore why bother selling ?

Lightningboy added 11:30 - Aug 30
£8m would be very good money for someone who cost us nothing.

My only worry is what McCarthy would bring in in place...i.e. Connor Sammon type players.

Burley could work miracles at this level with that money!......

As for ur assertion that im applauding everything they do? Far from it. Personally id be happy to see mm go as I like most of our fans am fed up with the crap brand of football we are playing. And as for me bullying? Never heard such rubbish. If me suggesting people base their comments on the facts is wrong then so be it. Just think that considered criticism is better than just shooting off at the hip with no basis of truth. Dowsnt mean I dont respect ne1s right to give their opinion. But I do have the right to give mine. If thats different to theirs then it is. At the end of the day we all want the same thing for itfc. And trust me id be very quick to slatw the ppwers that be if they leave us in the dirty stuff for the rest of the season.

Great that leaves us with a dodgy keeper a shaky defence that lets in stupid goals, no midfield to speak of and now no stike force
MICK McCARTHY your not for me. Your not my type of manager.
Thought there was something up when he came out with the statement that its down to ME if anyone comes in with a bid for a player.
And if its down to ME then perhaps its time you seriosly listened to some of the offers you have had for town.
Just so B@##@Y angry at what is happening at Town.

Bossman, loans these days do tend to involve a fee as well as wages, not always. Just saying.

If he's only got one dead leg
Then play him on crutches or use a wheelchair

@blues1 Evans saying he could sell and then buy a season ticket don't make him a supporter. When he bought the club he said categorically he was not a town supporter. A fact I would be interested in is how many games has he been to since he bought the club. His family home is in the west country, his business dealings are mostly in London and he supposedly spends a fair bit of time abroad. Good luck to him and if you want to buy the supporter nonsense good luck to you but just saying the same wrong thing over and over don't make it right.

Oh dear...if this goes through I doubt much of the money will be reinvested in the team.

We will probably be hunting round for free transfers to replace him.

Rory Fallon, Lamar Powell, Robert Earnshaw, Alan Gow, Ashley Rowley, Sam Parkin....all available for free at the mo....

Joking aside we could end up with one of these guys. I am really starting to wonder what our long term plan actually is...if we have one at all...

Selling MCgoldrick now would demoralise the team and put us in a very precarious position until January. Are we intending to play out boring 0-0 draws for the rest of the season?
