McGoldrick £8m Leicester Target
Saturday, 30th Aug 2014 08:18

Town and Premier League new boys Leicester City are in talks regarding an £8 million deal for striker David McGoldrick, according to various reports this morning.

Some sources are reporting that the Blues have already turned down a £6.5 million offer for the 26-year-old and that the frontman will miss today's game with a dead leg.

McGoldrick joined Town initially on loan from Nottingham Forest in January 2013, scoring four goals in 13 games and one sub appearance.

Having been released by Forest he put pen to paper on a permanent deal the following summer.

Last season he scored 16 goals before suffering a partial tear of the medial ligament in his right knee in February and missed the rest of the campaign.

He returned to action in pre-season and scored in the opening day victory over Fulham at Portman Road.

When McGoldrick signed his permanent deal with Town it was reported that he had agreed a two-year contract, however, manager Mick McCarthy said in April that the striker’s deal stretches beyond next summer, suggesting that the Blues have an option for a further season, although he wouldn’t go into details.

“He’s got more than a year to run," he said. “But his contract details are personal and for me to know and not you.”

While the Blues would be loath to lose their star striker, it would be difficult to turn down an offer of the size reported or to deny McGoldrick the chance to play in the Premier League. The transfer window closes at 11pm on Monday evening.

What's D J Campbell up to these days. What is he about 32? Right up Mick's street. Surely he's got goals left in him at this level.

Try and nab Dwight Gayle from CP . He is not a regular first teamer but would be great in the championship

Billblue. No evidence that the powers that be recognise that there is a problem. There has been a steady decline ever since Evans arrived and no improvement since the end of last season. Hope you're enjoying the fare you get to see these days, I'm not.

"As long as the money's reinvested in the team". People need to live in the real world. This is isn't FIFA - you don't buy a player knowing exactly how good he's going to be. Anybody heard of the expression 'a bird in the hand is better than two in the bush?' Yes, McCarthy could get a quality player with that money (although he'll probably only see a fraction of it and he's got about 24 hours to strike a deal), but how do we know they won't turn out like another Chopra, or Priskin? I wonder how Fulham fans feel about McCormack! Didz is A KNOWN QUANTITY, and a quality one at that. I can't see how this (should the deal go ahead) is anything but a disaster...

Not what I needed to see this morning with my hangover...

Like most, I of course don't want him to leave. But would begrudge him the chance of premier league football. Personally, I'd be asking for around £5mil plus Jamie Vardy and Andy King. That way, we basically replace his creativity with king, and his goals with Vardy. Both our proven at the level, and would give us decent balance. There's no chance of that happening, but we should counter with a ridiculous offer, that way, if they accept our proposal we win, and if they don't, we still win.

Im puzzled to just what Mick is aiming to do. I had hoped that he would buy talented players from the leagues below. This is what he did at Wolves & most of the successful teams around us have done. Its clear that the midfield needs players who can support our strikers. Tabb & Anderson are not the answer & neither is Gerken good enough to be our no i. All we appear to have done this summer is sell our best players ie Cresweell & now Mcgoldrick

shame, funny how the "dead leg" spin is now out, thats bull he is off I would think
yeah sounds like he is prob going somewhere as they wont risk him
would love to see Jonny back, but why would he come???
Didnt he play for Palace, and with a new manager this maybe his chance to shine at palace, thats if Warnock likes him of course.
Hmm if Mick was given all the £8m i'd prob say thanks Didz off you go son as we got him for nowt really
but who do you get in ???????

Ref: DJ Campbell
He was cited in a football fixing probe last year
and with our recent experience with Mr Chopra and his betting problems
I doubt if he'd be ever considered again to return, and he never hit the same heights with Blackburn and has since got released

Lightningboy - really, think Burley wasted quite a few bob on crap players, what a short memory you have.

If he leaves our attendances will drop to about 200, please god don't sell the only bright spark in this negative defensive team!!!

You can't begrudge him the opportunity to play at the highest level but without him I have no confidence in our current front line to score anything like the goals we would need.
I also have no confidence that there would be much of that money given to MM to spend on a replacement, unfortunately it's difficult to pick up proven goalscorers for peanuts!

If this goes through and we dont reinvest the money in players im cancelling my direct debit on the season ticket.
This is the lowest i have felt as a Town fan since i first set foot in Portman Road in 1986.
I really dont fancy sitting watching unimaginative robots for another year.
I might have already paid for a 3rd of my ticket and only seen 2 games but i just cant do it anymore, i just dont enjoy going so why should i spend another Saturday afternoon away from my kids.
I suppose some of you will say im not a proper fan etc but i went home and away through the Duncan years and never felt this fed up, im just falling out of love with ITFC and i put that down to ME and latterly MM.

Let's be honest, Whickham went for £8-12M & how much was put back into transfer fees? Cresswell, where's the money gone?? This is a disaster for Yown fans, the old class attacking player we have and no time left to replace him. We may as well all give up now :-(

Unlikely D J Campbell will be a replacement. According to reports currently training with his old side Brentford trying to win a contract.

Vardy and King as part of the deal? Not likely I'm afraid.

Most likely we will bring in some huge striker to get on the end of the hoof balls. Any 7ft strikers out there available on a free?

Even if Mick was given the whole £8m to spend on players he's going to have to work a bit bloody quickly. Assuming the medical and, thus, the deal for Didz happens on Monday he will have just a few hours. And even if he has targets lined up, it will take most of those hours to persuade them to come to a club in a mess

Any buys at this time would be panic buys. And we've had a few disasters like that in the past.....

Well, you might as well sell smith to Palace, then at least chambers can move into the middle and we will have a settled back four if nothing else. The only trouble is if MCc were to go would we have time to buy a replacement unless the deal is already done as he is not playing today, and MM has already got somebody else lined up.

Monkey_Blue added 12:42 - Aug 30
NITFC Deals can be worked on and agreed in principal before Monday... and I would assume that the Club will be letting Leicester know that we need replacements lined up first. Its not as though fees and wages can't agreed and medicals done prior to Didz leaving. Mick will know who he'd like and whos realistic with the money

May as well sell Didz as won't make the playoffs with this squad anyway. Just shows where Town are right now. If we do get a few decent players in the team there is not the money being made available to make that squad a promotion winning squad. So we end up selling good players - Rhodes, Wickham, Cresswell and now McGoldrick and possibly Smith to balance the books.

Its a never end circle of almost getting a team together before breaking it up - therefore mid table. Town fans who pay ablove average prices only get to see average players and football. We deserve better than this. Evans put up or sell up!

So I guess we're looking at Bajner playing the big lump role and Murphy playing ....... oh dear

The decision to want to sell or not will be shown on todays teamsheet. No dids then he is going.

Whatever the decision and i will park my views until the end of the transfer window, it is hardly an ideal distraction for todays game.

Profit from what you know and back Derby to beat at best an average team.

The fee amount is at least the right type of figure. But if he goes we need to be in a position to bring in several PERMANENT players with every penny of the fee received. The trouble is, the club will say there wasn't time and in the short term we will rely on emergency loans, which in my opinion will be a disaster. We have shipped out so many permanent players and not replaced it is unreal. I had hoped ME had learnt from Jewells failings and reliant on loans to see how that won't work.

siralfstrackie added 12:57 - Aug 30
The truth is that Didz created many of the chances and goals he scored last season, without that individual creativity it's difficult to see where (many of) those 16 goals would have come from. If he goes we'll need more than just another striker to replace him, this goes back to the argument that Town are just not playing the exciting and inventive football you need to do well in the Championship, NOT losing is not enough to get you in the play-off zone as we've seen in the last few seasons.

kieranradford added 12:57 - Aug 30
if Mcgoldrick goes bring in David Nugent and if MM receives any money he needs to bring in a creativity midfielder like Jonny Williams.
