McGoldrick £8m Leicester Target
Saturday, 30th Aug 2014 08:18

Town and Premier League new boys Leicester City are in talks regarding an £8 million deal for striker David McGoldrick, according to various reports this morning.

Some sources are reporting that the Blues have already turned down a £6.5 million offer for the 26-year-old and that the frontman will miss today's game with a dead leg.

McGoldrick joined Town initially on loan from Nottingham Forest in January 2013, scoring four goals in 13 games and one sub appearance.

Having been released by Forest he put pen to paper on a permanent deal the following summer.

Last season he scored 16 goals before suffering a partial tear of the medial ligament in his right knee in February and missed the rest of the campaign.

He returned to action in pre-season and scored in the opening day victory over Fulham at Portman Road.

When McGoldrick signed his permanent deal with Town it was reported that he had agreed a two-year contract, however, manager Mick McCarthy said in April that the striker’s deal stretches beyond next summer, suggesting that the Blues have an option for a further season, although he wouldn’t go into details.

“He’s got more than a year to run," he said. “But his contract details are personal and for me to know and not you.”

While the Blues would be loath to lose their star striker, it would be difficult to turn down an offer of the size reported or to deny McGoldrick the chance to play in the Premier League. The transfer window closes at 11pm on Monday evening.

Ipswich Town are being run as a business. Free transfers for the last 2 years, WHAT ELSE WOULD THIS INDICATE. Skuse is no talent and lightweight, whilst Tabb does not pose danger of anything whatsoever. With these two, it makes no matter that we keep a quality, dangerous player in McGoldrick because even now we look like a potential 16th placed team anyway.

Selling Creswell has impacted the only other creative player Ipswich had and with WOLVES COMING UP, NORWICH AND CARDIFF DOWN, 2014/15 has more competition than 2013/14. Throw in Derby, Sheffield Wednesday, Blackburn, Bournemouth, Nottingham Forest, Watford, Brighton and Millwall and you realise that unless an investment is made in playing personel, how could we improve on last year???

I feel disturbed at seeing Ipswich outed in the first stage of the league cup to non league football and third division talent In Crawley and Northampton the last two years, so why bother pretending. Matt Holland said play well and win in this comp and take it as far as you can.

This current ridiculous attitude to this competition means a loss of income and should not be happening. Recently signed to a three year contract and why, because of results like this. Bad decision making at the top, top.

Lets face it relegation would really save on the payroll and only mean a drop of a couple of thousand spectators average a game. I say sell more to reduce debt on playing personel, staffing and reducing finance owing to the bank.

This would be a move forward, because McCarthy's playing style and playing personnel is not. Rather a regrouping through a a new spine (central defenders and midfielders) except Hyam would be needed. Berra and Smith sold as well. Skuse's contract ended and then only Murphy and Chambers staying on with younger talent brought in at reasonable fees to form a new team along with Hewitt, Mings, Anderson, Henshall along with the current injured players such as Parr and Stewart who promised a little from the start.

Incredible to imagine that anyone should have expectations for this team after watching them play. So I say as a lifelong supporter from the late, late seventies do not hold any expectations of your team Ipswich, until their football and their results speak for themselves.

Bossman. I dont dispute what he said when he 1st arrived. But in this interview he stated that he became a town fan sonn after he arrived. Dont see where he lives or works has to do with it. Lets face it. How many man utd fans live in manchester? Think youll find hes at most matches. Only miases if he away on business. At least, thats what has been reported in the past. karls dad. If this is true i would expect that this has been goong on for a while as transfers rarely happen overnight. So would wxpect pr at least hope we been seeking a replacement in that time. If not, like everyone else on here ill be very concerned for what awaits for the rest of the season. Lets all hope that it stays what it is now. Just speculation.

Excuse the pun, but I find it cheap to blame Evans for having to sell. Our average attendance this year over two games is 21000. If we cant sell out for the first game of the season (17000) against one of the biggest clubs in the league, and against that yellow and green lot down the road (25000), how will we ever compete financially? The "support" is inextricably linked to financial decisions off the pitch. If you were to look at this sale objectively, he scored 17 goals last season. The fact that he was injured for a period is irrelevant, as this can happen every season. Numbers are clear and factual, and are 17 goals in the championship worth 8m after paying sweet FA? I don't think Evans is the problem, he has put more into this club financially. It is our job as supporters to ensure our bums are on seats week in and week out, and to make the appropriate sacrifices to afford this. After all, we all consider ourselves "loyal" and will support our club "through thick and thin". If not we are as plastic as some Chelsea and Man City fans. They will spend money and win titles...but I'd rather keep my season ticket at Town thanks...Its not necessarily great all year round, but I live for the one or two days out that are bl00dy brilliant!!

WindsorBlue - please see one of my posts yesterday. Sadly not everyone can afford to go to all games. I have a season ticket and made the financial sacrifice, but it's a struggle with travelling to add on top to. Also, if we sell our best players, sign work nan like but negative ones in return, what enjoyment or entertainment are the club providing to encourage people to spend £30+ each per game? You can't blame people for staying away, it's expensive and the quality of football is poor and has been worse without Cresswell and will be even worse without our last real class player. It is up to Evans to take the lead. Free up funds from sales, so quality can be signed. This will in turn add to the entertainment and encourage fans to attend, particularly if ticket prices are reduced or offers available. And this comment is from someone who does attend every home game!

I love the way fans just expect someone else to bankroll our club "hands in your pockets Evans" etc etc.

When do the schools go back?

£8m is good business.

Just seen team arrive at Derby . No D Mc on the bus . Thank you and goodbye

Really struggle if we loose didz which looks likely considering he didn't get off the bus at Derby, leaves us with Nouble, Sammon, Murphy and Bajner who have 1 goal this season between all 4 of them. And leaves us with Monday to reinvest, personally would ask for Jamie Vardy as part of the deal, such a good striker

@blues1 I admire you for your conviction but it appears to me that Evans bought Ipswich as a tax vehicle where our losses could be offset against profits from the rest of the group. It doesn't appear to me that he has shown anything like as much interest in the football club as in other parts of the ME Group. We declared an adherence to FFP before it was even officially introduced. Maybe we'll make some signings next week which will have me posting an apology to you, nothing would make me happier but don't hold your breath.

Shame about Didzi but life goes on (I promise you - it will). There's no point worrying about things you have no control over. We will have our day.

To be fair to Evans he did invest money and quite a lot unfortuently he didnt have a clue about football managers. Magilton should of never got a penny Keane was too much of a gamble, as for Jewell anyone with any knowledge of the game wouldnt give him a job. A lot of you wont like this but what is MM pedigree really, he took Ireland to the world cup or was it down to the players. Ive been brought up on the tradition of Town playing passing football good years and bad. Hoof ball is not for me, i remember the early years of Burley was heartbreaking play offs etc but at least we were entertained. I thought Big Joe came here for his pension boy how wrong i was he achieved so much with little money and selling his best players year on year but all throughout his sides played football. I thought at the time Holloway was the better fit.

Sad news he will probably go and the 8 million we get we wont have time 2 spend until January and where would we be by then with our best playr gone? Maybe he will bring back paul Taylor or maybe not.

BossMan - "Evans bought Ipswich as a tax vehicle where our losses could be offset against profits from the rest of the group".

How does that work then?

We need to add 3-4 quality players to our team, and that isn't going to happen anytime soon with the clubs current finances. The question is, do we stay as we are at the moment, no flair and lack of goals, WITH McGoldrick, or do we sell, and hopefully improve our team over all and move on to better things. If McGoldrick stays and has a good season, that in itself won't be enough to get us up, and he's off then in the summer anyway most likely, so we won't be able to build a team around him anyway, even more so, coz we'll still be skint.

Orraman added 14:13 - Aug 30
Following his serious knee injury with no guarantee of recovering his previous peak fitness, this would be an offer too good to turn down. In any case, we didn't do too bad without him in the second half of last season

This is the absolute test of ME and MM's ambition - if he goes we have zero chance of going up and they know that. Personally, I would like my season tickets refunded because im not driving 220 miles and spending the petrol and food money and the time to watch Skuse hit it over the bar from outside the box and endless balls over the top into the channels.

If this is true, your gone Didsy 8 mil will be snapped up.You deserve to play in the prem anyway and wont let anyone down.My fear is what happens when your gone will we go from hoof ball to basketball.Everyday gets more depressing at ITFC I said yesterday whats going on within our great club, and only gods knows what MM or ME will do with any money we might get nightmares already...

@NITFC http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/manuals/ctmanual/CTM80110.htm It will need one of our accountant fans to explain properly but I think the rules were more generous when he first bought the club than they are now.

Dids would have gone in the summer if fit I am sure of that
From a business point of view the deals ( if true) for him and Creswell represent great business
But as we have seen with AC chance of us getting anyone in slim to none
Unless there is a cunning plan - Get Vardy !
I look at the squad today and see alot of young players with good potential but when you look at the Deby side and their bench it is Men against Boys !
If we get a point I will be amazed
Great to see Bishop in though !!
