Precisely. If this is in any way legitimate and, if accurate, has been achieved in the spirit in which the target was set, I would hope to see similar sustained increases over the coming days and weeks.

And counting tests ordered online but not returned yet also helps... Then lying about not having changed the basis of calculation? Well, that's standard for this lot.

However, this figure includes tests which have been posted to recipients, but not yet carried out.' So they chucked thousands of tests in the post this morning is what actually happened. Surely 'carrying out a test' should involve you know, carrying out a test. [Post edited 1 May 2020 17:27]

122,000 tests carried out yesterday on 17:28 - May 1 with 2355 views | hampstead_blue | BORING If they had missed the target you would have been screaming. They have hit, and exceeded the target so you are not happy. Either way you feel you can win. Sorry fella but it was no win the minute he gave a target. My view is that giving a target was not the best idea. Just do whatever you can. That is the best you can do.
| Assumption is to make an ass out of you and me.
Those who assume they know you, when they don't are just guessing.
Those who assume and insist they know are daft and in denial.
Those who assume, insist, and deny the truth are plain stupid.
Those who assume, insist, deny the truth and tell YOU they know you (when they don't) have an IQ in the range of 35-49.

122,000 tests carried out yesterday on 17:29 - May 1 with 2366 views | Guthrum | As I mentioned earlier, when they came up with this 100k target, it was anticipated there would be a range of tests in use (including one to detect infection products or antigens post-recovery), some of which would be quicker and easier to administer than the current up-the-nose-back-of-the-throat swab - none of which passed trials on reliability and are thus unavailable. But the 100k target has taken on a life of its own in the media, thus leading to them performing logistical gymnastics to surpass it on at least one day before the deadline. So it is perhaps a little unfair to be too harsh on the Government for this one. They'd have been shredded had they gone back on trying to achieve it, however reasonable under the changed circumstances.

I’m interested in seeing day on day increases and frankly am not fussed about the artificial target which was set. Pulling nursing staff off wards to get tested to hit an arbitrary target seems wrong to me as does counting tens of thousands of home tests posted out too. Just count normal tests made and increase them each day is the way to do it. Ps 18000 tests posted out on 29 April were counted in yesterday’s figures. They wouldn’t even have been received then. Hopefully they will be posting out similar numbers every day [Post edited 1 May 2020 17:38]

122,000 tests carried out yesterday on 17:38 - May 1 with 2314 views | Steve_M | The actual number of people tested was 73,191 according to this highly biased left-tard source. See: Breakdown of testing by 3 of the testing strategy ‘pillars’ https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-information-for-the-public#hist The higher number comes from including tests sent out it seems. A government that resorts to spin first and foremost is not the ideal one for a public health emergency. Increasing testing is good but they've gotten themselves distracted by an arbitrary target, as has much of the media.

From 10th April, they ramped the tests up to between 18k and 20k (average 18,474), then from the 21st, they got it up to 23k to 33k for six days (average 28,079). The last four days figures, up to 9am yesterday, were 41,060, 52,477, 55,152 and 83,366 - obviously ramping it up to go for the target. Will be interesting to see what the numbers revert to in a few days time. I suspect closer to the 40k mark than 100k.

It's like living in a propaganda state. Just say how many tests you've done. It doesn't seem a coincidence that Government have changed the criteria for what constitutes 'carrying out a test' twice in the last week. The government had been averaging around 20,000 tests a day but this increased significantly over the last week. When home testing kits became a significant part of the testing strategy last week, the Department of Health began counting those sent out as part of its daily test figures. So, it doesn’t mean the test was actually used by someone on that day - or even received. Previously, only instances in which the swab had been processed through a lab were counted as a test. But the new definition - added on 27 April - included tests "posted to an individual at home". On 29 April, the definition was extended yet further to also encompass "tests sent to... satellite testing locations". According to figures released on 30 April, home testing kits accounted for over 18,000 of the daily tests, or a quarter of the total.

He gave a target to try and stop the criticism he was getting, he wasn't forced to do so. If, as reported they've just posted 50k test kits out then they haven't hit any target - the whole point of the target was so that we could be doing tests towards the level of countries like Germant

We’ve taken advice from officials about how to count them. Which officials were they? Dominic Cummings perhaps. 40000 out of 122000 were posted out and a period of consolidation is now needed according to Prof Newton which means lower numbers no doubt and the staff testing reduced again [Post edited 1 May 2020 18:08]

Indeed. Had the Government turned round on gone "we set a target based on expecting this that and the other that hasn't been possible (as Guthrum is trying to on their behalf) we should be able to applaud their honesty. Instead, it is twisting of "facts" to suit. It continues to bring more doubt on what they say. Their supporters will go they did it, well done Boris, let's have a clap Matt Hancock day too. Their opponents will go "you lied". Unfortunately so many people are so entrenched in their view they will not be able to see beyond their own view.

I agree with your last paragraph but unfortunately the government didn’t follow that advice and imposed a target on themselves. They’ve now fiddled the numbers so blatantly that only the unbelievably gullible won’t see through it. On its own it’s not a massive deal but it just further undermines trust in the people we need to be able to trust, more so now than ever before.
