Lambert’s comments about the state of the stadium and training ground 12:30 - Aug 9 with 3495 viewsIllinoisblue

Are the best thing I’ve read from him. Utterly shameful that nobody ever gave a toss before now. These little things matter.

.....to remember what his actual job is at the club.

I'm not knocking his intentions, for once I think he's got it right.

But I'd still rather we were in the Championship with dodgy paintwork than in Division 3 with shiny benches at the training ground.

We need to win football matches.

Yep, in full agreement.

As man Bloots points out, we do also need to win some games of football too.

This all feeds into that aim. There was a general attitude within the club of not really giving a damn. That starts at the very bottom. If everyone at the club takes a bit more pride in what they are doing this will feed into performances on the pitch. I'm not saying we got relegated because the place was a bit run down, we got relegated because we were sh!te last season but this is a step in the right direction towards getting a bit of pride in the club back.

While I agree with PL's comments, there has been an element of damned if they do, damned if they don't. They got pelters for infrastructure maintenance of this type before rather than spending that money on the team.

Part of the issue has been there have been loads of jobs which have been in the 'when we get promoted' list. Seventeen years down the line these things have begun to show.

With the added problem that paying for the team nowadays sucks all the money out of a football club (well over 100% of income in recent seasons, just on wages). There is nothing spare for maintenance.

But when Clegg was being mocked for the painting of the turnstiles, that was at a time when we were led to believe that Evans was committed to getting this club to the Premier League, even though we were sitting at the bottom of the Championship.

Aspirations appear to be a good deal more ascetic nowadays. I don’t like it but if we’re going to live in a monk’s cell, at least let it be a tidy one.

That has been the argument on non-footballing things - would you rather have money spent on footballers or on paintwork, stand roofs being clean etc. I bet Mick would have said footballers, for what it's worth, although he never saw his role as having quite as wide a brief as PL evidently does.

i really hope Lambert can do well here.

He gets what this club has lacked for a fair few years off the pitch abit of TLC and someone who can galvanise the club. My worry is he will get burnt out quickly with everything he's doing.

He still has much to prove on the pitch as has been talked about numerous times but i fear if we don't ace this league, some fans will get on his back.

They got pelters because it’s something that should be done as a matter of course, not something that should be celebrated as an achievement.

But it never was, as I remember it, it was just something which was made reference to in a programme column by the chief exec, whose job was to be in charge of off-field stuff. However, unfortunately it was on a day where we were beaten comfortably at home by Barnsley, if I remember rightly.

.... the turnstiles and other such jobs!!!

I know out ticket revenue should fund this, but to be honest, they way out of our league predicament seems to be heavily biased to 'fan power'.

So why not let the Blue Army loose on some ground cleaning and decoration?!

Just a thought.

Come on Phil, would you leave your home undecorated and untidy waiting for your friends to visit and say what a place to visit. This should have been done 2years ago.

The tone of an organisation like Ipswich is set from the top, the Owner. If he doesnt seem to care then that percolates down to everyone else too.

The idea that we can't have players and paintwork & clean stands is symptomatic of many people close to the club, including yourself, being infected by the careless attitude of the Owner. It certainly does not have to be like that.

Completely agree! Not caring for these matters reflects an attitude which is unworthy for Ipswich Town Football Club.

This club is much about heart and beauty in expression. Let the deep blue color carry meaning again!

Maybe it’s because of the regime that’s allowed the state of our infrastructure to deteriorate so much that we are now in League 1.

Even that costs quite a lot of money when you're dealing with a site the size of Portman Road - likely a six-figure sum just for cleaning and painting one of the stands (specialist access equipment, large team of workers, huge volumes of paint, etc.).
