Anyone reckon Portsmouth fans are going to boo the pitch invasion coming soon? on 10:48 - Apr 17 with 922 views | NeedhamChris | I was in the 'no' camp last year - but also nowhere near booing! However the clubs actual reaction rather than the one they advertised (including the use of it in videos/celebrations etc - and the way the players engaged), means I'd be more likely in the 'yes' camp this year.

Anyone reckon Portsmouth fans are going to boo the pitch invasion coming soon? on 21:53 - Apr 16 by Illinoisblue | Thinking back to last year’s booing… was it in part caused by some pre match warnings about possible points deductions for invading the pitch? (Deductions when have never ever happened for celebratory invasions) |
The booing was for the handful of fans who dillydallied getting back off the pitch, taking videos of themselves, and was annoyance at players lap of honour delay. Saying that, this is Suffolk so of course there would have been some moaning at anyone having fun oer breaking some rules anyway :) But I don't remember a cacophony of disapproval from the outset. For the record, I fooked off anyway long before the players came back out. The pub beckoned. I'm not that into laps of honour tbh, the quid pro quo is signed, sealed and delivered every game, during which I support the team through thick and thin, following the Towen up or dowen. And before Machers turns up, no, I didn't stick around applauding Lambert and our sorry bunch at the end of THAT season either ffs.

Only just a few days away from one of the biggest week's in Town's recent history Not just aimed at you Steve but the thread and comments in general. Just seems a bit unecessary to me.

It will always be gone on about because it was pathetic.

Indeed. Growing up and seeing fans across the country get to celebrate this every year, including seeing our old one from 2001, was making me jealous. The boos will always slightly sour that moment, and if we get the chance again in a few weeks, I can only hope lessons have been learnt.

Anyone reckon Portsmouth fans are going to boo the pitch invasion coming soon? on 12:04 - Apr 17 with 810 views | GlasgowBlue | It was completely different last season as promotion coincided with the last home game of the season and the club wanted the players to be able to bring their families on at the final whistle. Had we been promoted at home to Charlton or Port Vale then I don't think there would have been the same issues.

Think people have just got to get over it really, especially almost a year on. Didn't help that Stephen Foster on the mic kept going on about how anyone on the pitch would ruin the post-match celebrations which was obviously nonsense but sufficiently worried enough people. Would like to think there'd be a large difference in people's minds between a promotion to the PL and one from League 1 which was all but confirmed before the last match kicked off anyway.

Anyone reckon Portsmouth fans are going to boo the pitch invasion coming soon? on 22:21 - Apr 16 by redrickstuhaart | They might get a points deduction or play behind closed doors though. Certainly a hefty fine... |
Sheffield Wednesday got a fine last year ( 50K, trivial in terms of the EPL) but it was not because of the pitch invasion per se, it was because of them not managing it, specifically categorising the risk as low, stewards watching the shoot out not the crowd, stewards not attempting to stop fans getting on the pitch, lino getting knocked over, no safe escort for officials and 4 minute delay before announcements to get off the pitch. Properly managed, there will be no sanctions for a pitch invasion at the end of the season.

TBH as an old fart I find people attempting to organise and stimulate what should be a spontaneous celebration equally pathetic. Modern football/ society at its worst. Bring your selfie stick and filters, the optics will be bangin'...

Anyone reckon Portsmouth fans are going to boo the pitch invasion coming soon? on 13:06 - Apr 17 with 693 views | Vaughan8 | To be honest, I find it odd that grown adults cannot reframe themselves from running on some grass to get their selfie for "the gram" but each to their own. Comparing our 2nd place in League one, to winning the Bundesliga for the first time is a bit different and laughable. Also, I'm guessing the opposition players weren't chased after and hit in Germany like a lot do in England? (just like they're allowed to have beers in their seats). English fans are just moronic quite frankly. lets celebrate by punching other players

Anyone reckon Portsmouth fans are going to boo the pitch invasion coming soon? on 22:52 - Apr 16 by HighgateBlue | And our football club? Under the owners and the management that everyone loves so much? The club told us quite categorically we were not welcome on the pitch. Why do other fans get criticised so much when they are not the ones who set the rules? |
Mark Ashton literally wanted the fans to go on the pitch, there was a reason all the ball boys and media moved a few minutes before the final whistle.

You think that moving children out of the way indicates consent, rather than common sense then?

Nope, but I know for a fact Mark Ashton was all for it and the club expected it, hence moving the relevant people out of the way. One of my mates fell over the advertising boards and was picked up by a police officer and steward saying “enjoy”.

Anyone reckon Portsmouth fans are going to boo the pitch invasion coming soon? on 22:20 - Apr 16 by Hipsterectomy | True or not, I think we were told it was the player's and staff's wishes to be able to come out and celebrate with their family, which they couldn't do if fans were on the pitch. I def remember them saying there would be no celebrations of any kind for fans if fans entered the pitch and that players would just celebrate in the dressing room. May or may not be true, but how long did they think fans would be out there for? Especially with the footage of the players drinking and celebrating in the dressing room anyway Edit: also the (wrong) threat from stewards where I was sat that entering the pitch would get you banned which put a lot of people off [Post edited 16 Apr 22:22]

It was totally this. We were told that the players would not be able to come onto the pitch if there was a fan invasion. Many families there wanting to see the players do their walk round and hence some booing then a total over reaction to it after which has lasted for twelve months.

Gloomy post, this. 'Comparing our 2nd place in League one, to winning the Bundesliga for the first time is a bit different and laughable' - except we didn't know we were 2nd at the time, did we? We did, however, know that we were promoted, and had something to celebrate for the first time in 20 (twenty) years. Find that 'laughable' if you want, pal, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Can't recall any Exeter players being chased or hit, either; proper weird to suggest otherwise. And yes, all English fans are moronic, excellent. So strange that this sub-section of society is judged by the actions of the few, rather than the many. BlueLagos writes far better about this than I.... [Post edited 17 Apr 18:04]

Anyone reckon Portsmouth fans are going to boo the pitch invasion coming soon? on 18:08 - Apr 17 with 384 views | J2BLUE | Getting promoted from league one and getting promoted from the Championship are very different things. It was very obvious this club was on the up and that was just a first step for what was to come so it didn't seem a big deal. If Town get automatic promotion I don't think anyone will be concerned with a pitch invasion. It's part of it. People should really get over last year and hopefully it will happen this year and be a far more meaningful event.
