What would be a good outcome from today's friendlies? 07:56 - Jul 28 with 3771 viewsLegendofthePhoenix

Minutes in the legs - bollox. It's time to perform now and show what we are capable of. Show that our defence can withstand pressure, that we can keep possession against top teams, show that we can hurt them. That said, RB Leipzig are probably the equivalent of Man Utd. Werder Bremen about the same as a mid-Prem team.
In a 60 minute match keeping Leipzig to 3 goals or less would be decent, and if we can score in either game that would be good. Expecting two losses, but to show that we can compete for periods of the games. Maybe eke a draw against Bremen.

“Time to show what we’re capable of”….” In a 60 minute match keeping Leipzig to 3 goals or less would be decent”. Ambitious.

A couple of good coherent performances with no injuries. Result secondary. Fine tuning against good opposition.

No injuries would be the the best result.

After that just giving a good account of ourselves. A draw or a win in one of the games would be great. Performance will be more important than result (as long as not spanked).

Nice games to have but it IS just preseason. Sunday next week is all that actually matters.

No injuries and getting everyone to match fitness.

Would rather we get thumped 5-0 without an injury than bravely get a draw, with Hirst getting a punctured lung.

Look what happened to Wrexham playing Utd.

The teams are likely to be split again, a mix of 1st teasers and youth so a good performance and no injuries. Results completely secondary.

Given that we won't be playing anyone near the calibre of today's opposition this season, I'd say minutes in the legs and try and give them a bloody nose.

Sustaining no injuries kinda goes without saying. But I am not expecting them to stroll around. I think McKenna got these fixtures to push ourselves and see how we can compete against top teams. The result is immaterial but just hope we don't get really tonked, it's more about patterns of play and proving to ourselves that we can hold our own for periods and cause a few problems against teams of this standard.

Two draws. Town will be a couple of weeks ahead in their preparations I'd imagine. Its still a "minutes in the legs" exercise though with a lot of shape work and fine tuning to come once they are back in Suffolk.

I can fully appreciate where you are coming from. Both games will be really tough. RB especially are top quality opposition and will no doubt beat us, but the target should be to benefit from the experience, even if we get a right slapping. The Bremen game might be less meaningful as RB would have probably won both their games by then. If we play to our strengths, we might get something out of that game, but the odds are stacked against us. As you stated, no injuries is a taken, but I would hope for good performances in both games, with a narrow defeat and a draw.

Not sure about that, I think Leicester are as good if not better than Werder Bremen. Shame the Keita is already injured for them, seems to have plagued his career. I think that's the one where there perhaps won't be as much in it between the sides.

Leipzig is clearly a tough test, 3rd in Bundesliga and participated in the Champions League for the last 5 years.

I think it's good to test ourselves against strong sides, should stand us in good stead to play teams who in theory should dominate possession (or at least expect to) and put us under pressure.

No injuries would be good. We are already looking thread bare. Our second 11 are nowhere near upto it.

Unless we get three points for a win today, it's pretty irrelevant. Only McKenna and his team will know what they're looking for.

A great performance today only to get tonked by Sunderland won't do much good. I dunno why people still insist friendlies mean much beyond a chance to watch some football.

So pretty much the same as Luton and Preston then?

But it won’t be will it? It’ll be the same as the other games where we split our first team up to play 2 games on the same day.

So what you’re wanting is what we have already shown in 2 games this pre season. But this likely won’t happen today.

Without Barnes, Tielemans and Maddison they aren't.
