Al-Hamadi looks like he's learned a lot since January.
at 18:13 13 Apr 2024

I was really impressed with a lot of his hold up and lay off work today, and his positioning which all seem to have improved. Obviously a quick and diligent learner.

Also more of a direct threat than any alternatives we have, even perhaps compared with Hirst.

Depending how training goes, I certainly wouldn't be surprised to see him finishing the season as our starting 9.

Really encouraging, I would say.

For a lot of that first half, we looked back to our aggressive, energetic, intricate, confident best. That's the best we've looked for weeks, probably months. OK, we should have won given what we created, but we've gained a point on L&L whilst getting back towards being ourselves. There's a hell of a lot to like in that.

Two weeks rest and recuperation now, coming back against other sides who will be more tired than us...

...I'm feeling very positive about these last thee games.

...outright, in different aspects of the game and all over the pitch. But in the context of the struggles we've had lately, and against very good opposition, that was really good!

AI gurus: any significant step change in what's being discussed on

the World Service at the moment?

'Elon Musk has predicted that AI will surpass human intelligence within a year. OpenAI and Meta have also said that they're on the brink of releasing new AI models that will be capable of reason and planning.'

Is this as expected, or has there been some step change in functionality?

...really breathtaking views of almost intact living spaces and artworks.

But we really haven't made much progress in 2,000 years as a social animal have we? Fabulously (and meaninglessly) wealthy individuals living next door to slave labour, ALL of them waiting for an environmental catastrophe to reduce them all to nothing.

They knew they were living under the existential threat of a volcano, we know even more clearly that we are living under an existential threat of our own making and doing nothing to save ourselves. Which society was advanced? The steam is flooding out of the vents if only we would all look at the science and face up to it.

Climate change: 'Uncharted territory' fears after record hot March
at 09:11 9 Apr 2024

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-68665166

'Temperatures should temporarily come down after El NiƱo peters out in coming months, but some scientists are worried they might not.

"By the end of the summer, if we're still looking at record breaking temperatures in the North Atlantic or elsewhere, then we really have kind of moved into uncharted territory," Gavin Schmidt, the director of Nasa's Goddard Institute for Space Studies, told BBC News.
'

...and

'Dr Schmidt is concerned about what this means for predictions going forward.

"Our predictions failed quite dramatically for the specifics of 2023, and if previous statistics don't work, then it becomes much harder to say what's going to happen in the future," he said.

"We're still trying to understand why the situation changed so dramatically in the middle of last year, and how long this situation will continue, whether it is a phase shift or whether it's a blip in long-term climate trends," agrees Dr Samantha Burgess from Copernicus.

Stoke City: Jonathan Walters appointed as technical director

Hope he does well. Wonder if he'll ever get the chance to interview Roy Keane for a job there? Bogs, maybe?

'Stoke, relegated from the Premier League in 2018, have since finished 16th, 15th, 14th, 14th, 16th in five successive seasons in the Championship.'

Consistent.

This feels quite different to how it felt before.
at 17:20 7 Apr 2024

After any defeat a few years ago, Sunday would be a right ba**ard. After a defeat to Narwich, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and most of Wednesday would be the same.

So what is it that, for me at least, made me feel so chilled out about this one as early as Sunday morning?

1. We are very close to a possible automatic promotion - it's in our hands.
2. The club is in SUCH a good place, on such a fantastic trajectory.
3. I'm older and wiser. (half of that is true, half probably isn't)
4. The sun is out.
5. We're 20 (twenty) points ahead of those chirpy little fellas - almost a different league.

We've got a very exciting five games ahead of us. COYB!

'Pub name', 'Ease of viewing screen(s)' & 'Beers available' would be good, but let's face it most of us would drink anything between about 11 and 2.30 on Saturday!

Just keep your hands away from the ball second half because you're lucky not to have conceded a couple of penalties there.

We celebrate your continued luck in Suffolk today.
