Would be stupid because if we get promoted and he does a decent job in the championship he'll be worth 10 million in a years time.

Indeed. I suspect somewhere around £5-6m would be enough.

Easily, that is serious money for a League 1 club which we are sadly We will be hoping a big tempting offer doesn't come in in this window as will be hard to turn down, especially when Woolfie realises he will be able to go and earn £20k a week on a 3-4 year deal which is probably 10x what he is on here.

£3,000,000 for Woolfenden on 08:58 - Jan 14 with 3199 views | NorthLondonBlue2 | Great player and please don’t sell him. Well know if we’re going up in no more than 4 months’ time. Would be crazy to weaken the side at this critical moment. And who would we replace him with? If we’re not facing bankruptcy, why sell him now?
£3,000,000 for Woolfenden on 09:00 - Jan 14 with 3177 views | xrayspecs | January is a really difficult time to improve your squad so would not surprise me if we kept LW until the end of the season and then took stock.
£3,000,000 for Woolfenden on 09:00 - Jan 14 with 3161 views | Bluefish | I would say 4 million is about the value so 3 million is cheeky bid to kick off. You would hope that they need to go well over the value to get him though [Post edited 14 Jan 2020 9:03]

£3,000,000 for Woolfenden on 09:04 - Jan 14 with 3100 views | IPSWICHFANITFC | January should be "Not for sale at the moment", "Not for sale at the moment" and "Not for sale at the moment". In the summer, it's a different conversation depending on what league we are in.

The key bit that many fans miss is the player power, it isn't just about a club being offered a few million. It is a life changing opportunity for the player. Downes to Fulham seems no chance but he could easily double his money but also put himself in the window for a PL club. If you were Woolfenden you would be desperate to go to Sheffield United

Webster went from Bristol City to Brighton for £25m on 09:07 - Jan 14 with 3050 views | unstableblue | ... I'm not sure the fee from Ipswich to Bristol City. But if we get promoted and Wolfenden starts in the Championship well, he'd be worth £15m to a Premier League club? Selling him for £3-£4m now would seem to be short sighted business. Also Chambo is on the way out,Wilson temporary. You'll be paying £2m for a replacement if we get promoted. If any scouts were at Saturdays game Wolfenden and Downes would have really impressed. Hope we keep them.

£3,000,000 for Woolfenden on 09:08 - Jan 14 with 3030 views | Chrisd | All part of the game, but if we sold Woolfenden for around that figure it would be hugely disappointing. Other clubs seem to be able to get fantastic fees for their young players, why do we seem to consistently be unable to command top fees for ours?

Which young players do you mean that we havent got great fees for?

£3,000,000 for Woolfenden on 09:11 - Jan 14 with 2987 views | xrayspecs | Woolfenden's current contract runs for another two and a half years (summer 2022) with the club having a further 12 months option on top so no real pressure for us to cash in at this stage.

Agreed. Its easy for us to blame the club for selling a player, especially a young one before value is realised, but we don't see the pressure from the player and his agent. To be fair the club did hold out on Judge - different circumstances - but clearly in that case the player was promoting the move. Hopefully Judge can start repaying our investment. I personally think The Wolf still needs some development in the Championship; massive step to Premier League, despite his obvious talents. His forward running and getting to the byline- which he's done a few times this season - makes him a bit unique.

£3,000,000 for Woolfenden on 09:13 - Jan 14 with 2950 views | SomethingBlue | Ominous that this is going around and I fear the worst, to be honest. Great if we can hold our nerve, get up and then sell him for four times that (because it would be four times that) a year from now. Hope that is exactly what happens. But not necessarily that simple, especially with the promotion situation currently looking precarious.

£3,000,000 for Woolfenden on 09:19 - Jan 14 with 2859 views | Herbivore | Really can't see it to be honest. £3m isn't enough to make much of a difference to us and Sheffield United done desperately need reinforcements this window. Much more likely in the summer and if we go up we can command a much bigger fee. £3m probably isn't far off his current value though if we're being realistic. He's had half a decent season in League 1.

Maybe we could loan him back? People saying we wont sell him for that are mad. The bottom line is the bottom line. He will treble his money easy going there, and to a PL club who have a good chance of Europe this year. If the S*n are reporting it then it's almost certainly going to happen.

Would make a lot of sense to them — and perhaps to us if we were really set on cashing in now — to buy him and then loan back til June ... [Post edited 14 Jan 2020 9:24]
