Swindon Boss Wilson Confirms Austin at Portman Road Holding Talks
Swindon Boss Wilson Confirms Austin at Portman Road Holding Talks
Thursday, 27th Jan 2011 16:32

Swindon boss Danny Wilson has confirmed that Robins striker Charlie Austin has been at Portman Road today holding talks with the Blues, as reported by TWTD earlier this afternoon. Town and the Wiltshire club have agreed a fee for the 21-year-old believed to be somewhere between £1.5 million and £2 million, including the usual appearance and achievement clauses.

Wilson said: "We've had a bid accepted from them and we've given Charlie permission to talk to Ipswich. What the outcome at this moment in time is I don't know. He's down there at the moment.

"It could be an all day job, it could be tomorrow, it might not happen at all and in a selfish way I hope it doesn't.

"But I can't really see that happening. Particularly now with the transfer window closing, clubs are now looking to get the player they've been tracking for most of the season.

"If Charlie does go, then we'll wish him all the best because he's exceeded everyone's expectations and has done fantastically well for us."

Blackpool are also believed to have made a bid, while Southampton and Burnley have been linked but Town are so far the only club whose offer has been accepted.

We understand Town have offered Austin a three-and-a-half-year contract at Portman Road.

Just checked the radio Suffolk website which has now been updated and there is no mention of the deal breaking down on there either. Everything i have seen this morning seems to say the deal is done.

None of us know if it has or hasn't fallen through. If it has it will not be down to Clegg. He is just Marcus Evans puppet. He will only be able to work within the parameters set by ME.

I personally think the deal will go through, ME has always backed his manager until a time, he longer trusts there judgement. He backed Magilton & Keane at the start, but in particular with Keane didnt back him in the summer because he didnt trust his judgement. He will back Jewell as we have already seen.

On top of this we dont know what Austin has asked for, but we have a wage structure at the club that needs to adhered to. If he is asking for silly money, which is possibly what both Norris & McCauley are, then we as a club cannot be held to ransom.

If he signs great, if he does not then lets not start blaming Clegg, ME is holding the purse strings and without him we would well & truly be in the mire.

Twittering 'Charlie Austin' makes for some unhappy reading.

Hopefully after breakfast (now 09.10) we will have a new striker on the books!

Im not too worried about Priskin. Wickham will probably be rotated from front to wide left midfield.
Imagine Wickham, Priskin, Bullard and Austin in the same line up!
With Edwards and O Connor we will have some serious attacking threat now.

CMON Blues and get the deal done!

Cant make head or tale out of this. people keep putting that he hasn't agreed terms and is now in talks with Burnley but can't find a single thing to back this up, or even that they have matched our bid.

Why do we put ourselves through this - deals are done and being done - it can take a day - A DAY is not a long time - some people on here analyse it every 5 minutes - If you are involved in business it aint all done over a twitter account or a text
Clegg - Hey Chas wanna get down to town mate
Chas - Cheers Simes - how much
Clegg - 12k a week ( unlikely BTW) and 3 years
Chas - Great , be there in an hour

We live in an instant society today - where people have totally lost sight of how real business is done - Yes I am over 40 so remember when we had to 'read papers' and not sit online for second updates - COYB

Me to, just read the section in the mirror and it says he wants to stay down south (cant blame him there) and that PJ has put together a better deal than Burnley as well. Of course there could well be further negotiations but can't see a scouser not getting what he wants.

blueherts, understand what your saying but go back to when Andy Cole moved from Newcastle to Manchester. It took 3 hours from when they got in contact to when he signed. If you really want some one you get the deal done to stop others from pinching them from under your nose. Shame Keano didn't understand that either.

Yep- crazy speculation!

For those who don't tweet, http://www.twitter.com then search 'Charlie austin'. No need to sign in or have an account.

Mostly it's just re-tweets, so same source references to a BBC Wiltshire story saying he didn't agree terms.

Gentlemen, Blueherts and brian_a_mul are right:

Log off now.
Get on with your lives.
Check for updates at lunchtime.

(Having said that, why do you think Charlie was wearing a West Ham shirt when we were playing Twister last night?)
