Swindon Boss Wilson Confirms Austin at Portman Road Holding Talks
Swindon Boss Wilson Confirms Austin at Portman Road Holding Talks
Thursday, 27th Jan 2011 16:32

Swindon boss Danny Wilson has confirmed that Robins striker Charlie Austin has been at Portman Road today holding talks with the Blues, as reported by TWTD earlier this afternoon. Town and the Wiltshire club have agreed a fee for the 21-year-old believed to be somewhere between £1.5 million and £2 million, including the usual appearance and achievement clauses.

Wilson said: "We've had a bid accepted from them and we've given Charlie permission to talk to Ipswich. What the outcome at this moment in time is I don't know. He's down there at the moment.

"It could be an all day job, it could be tomorrow, it might not happen at all and in a selfish way I hope it doesn't.

"But I can't really see that happening. Particularly now with the transfer window closing, clubs are now looking to get the player they've been tracking for most of the season.

"If Charlie does go, then we'll wish him all the best because he's exceeded everyone's expectations and has done fantastically well for us."

Blackpool are also believed to have made a bid, while Southampton and Burnley have been linked but Town are so far the only club whose offer has been accepted.

We understand Town have offered Austin a three-and-a-half-year contract at Portman Road.

I wouldn't be surprised if nothing's happened tonight, it's like buying a house. Don't worry, Cleggy will have him back in the morning and offer him another couple of quid.

We have just got to be patient, its hard as it was announced quite early today with the offer so come on Clegg get it done! We need him!

I think we're worrying a bit too much here. Like a few of you have said already I think he will be lined up for a medical tomorrow. He's a young lad, his agent will be after as much as he can get. If Charlie is a sensible lad he will sign tomorrow, Clegg will not f**k up with another signing after getting Jewell in at the helm. If we can get Bullard in (i know its only on loan) then im sure we can get Austin on board.

Nice to see some positive comments after two pages of negativity. If we do sign him (hope we do) it will teach us all not to listen to some of the rumors people spread around. I'm sure he'll be unveiled at 9:30 or somthing tommorow morning. Its a new era for itfc. COYBS

Here here tractorblue99. A lot has happened to our beloved club in the last 3 weeks and most of it has been positive (chelsea away aside) so lets not be to negative & hope Mr Clegg has sold Mr Jewells vision for the future to our transfer target. COYB.

Just been on to aforementioned Swindon website & appears young Mr Austin has signed for us on a reputed 12k a week. Apparently, he wanted to go to Southampton but Town only club to make an acceptable offer of £1.65 million. Lets hope their sources are accurate & we have our man.

Watched him a few time down here (nearest team to me here in Wiltshire)

I know he's got goals in him but your over gunning the lad, he's OK but that's it, and that's at Lge 1 standard. I'm hoping he'll improve with the step up, no wonder he's got a grin in Kesgrave tonight. 12k a week, a lot more than Macca's been offered, now put that into perspective !!

If this deal goes through then it will be a great signing and shows the intent of PJ and the type of team he wants.

Not sure why people are worried about Bullard as he would have had to have passed a very stringent medical even for a loan deal. A great bit of business. Our midfield has had no creativity or balance for so long and we will certainly see a different brand of football. PJ has managed him before and will get the best out of him.

As Jewell has said, he sees this as a long term project and he will be looking to build a team for the future as well as now. This is no "1 year" and we are up and I think as supporters we need to buy into that. I can see us move up the table and next season really compete.

If Austin signs we will have 3 strikers under the age of 25 (Priskin, Wickham & Austin) with great potential and they will improve under PJ. Its clear the manager wants pace in the side and also creativity. Agree that we need a RB but he may feel that in Edwards/Peters we can get by to the end of the season at this level of football and then look for the right player. We just don't score enough goals.

We are in for an exciting ride and wouldn't be surprised to see some other surprises over the coming days. If £2M came in for Leadbetter then he could be moved on to do another deal. PJ has nouse and experience and will bring back the good times.

As a side note, why does the club hide the details of ticket offers and not advertise it. Season ticket offer for the Pompey game of 4 tickets for £10 each. They should splash this everywhere to get people through the gate and reduce the match day price too.

COYB. Black clouds have been lifted and the blue and white are back!!

Blimey lads, there's been a lot of edginess from you all over this.

Assuming this is all done and dusted, shouldn't we be thanking Simon Clegg and Marcus Evans for shelling out. And shouldn't all the praise for Paul Jewell be reserved until Austin actually proves himself?

Warkywonderland. What very wise words sir, my thoughts entirely & must also say your comment about tickets & pricing is spot on. Lets get fans back to PR. The spin offs from sales in the club shop & catering outlets would outway the cost of cheaper match day tickets. Lets get PR rocking again.

I really hope he signs now for another winger and a right and left back Micah Richards on loan? We need flair and pace in this side lets get rid of all the dead wood and have a squad of twenty two, two for each position we dont need a squad of fourty we need tight knit squad who are in it together COYB!!!!
