Swindon Boss Wilson Confirms Austin at Portman Road Holding Talks
Swindon Boss Wilson Confirms Austin at Portman Road Holding Talks
Thursday, 27th Jan 2011 16:32

Swindon boss Danny Wilson has confirmed that Robins striker Charlie Austin has been at Portman Road today holding talks with the Blues, as reported by TWTD earlier this afternoon. Town and the Wiltshire club have agreed a fee for the 21-year-old believed to be somewhere between £1.5 million and £2 million, including the usual appearance and achievement clauses.

Wilson said: "We've had a bid accepted from them and we've given Charlie permission to talk to Ipswich. What the outcome at this moment in time is I don't know. He's down there at the moment.

"It could be an all day job, it could be tomorrow, it might not happen at all and in a selfish way I hope it doesn't.

"But I can't really see that happening. Particularly now with the transfer window closing, clubs are now looking to get the player they've been tracking for most of the season.

"If Charlie does go, then we'll wish him all the best because he's exceeded everyone's expectations and has done fantastically well for us."

Blackpool are also believed to have made a bid, while Southampton and Burnley have been linked but Town are so far the only club whose offer has been accepted.

We understand Town have offered Austin a three-and-a-half-year contract at Portman Road.

Is he better than the ball kicker Rhodes? He's scored some in League 1.
Can he get the ball in the net so easily in the Championship? Don't expect a young lad to dig us out of the hole we're in single handed. We need a proper centre half who can stop the silly goals as well.

No news is good news they say except probably not in this case, looks like all was well until Clegg got involved, may be premature but I have absolutely no faith in him or the club to get a deal done, he will probably be on his way up to Blackpool tomorrow now he knows how much (or little) we were offering, every signing we get involved with becomes a bloody saga, only one likely outcome now but I really hope I'm wrong, he was a non league player until 2009, what are we playing at.

I am not a arm chair fan i have been a season ticket holder for over twenty years and now sit in the south stand with my to teenage sons. Charlie Austin was at the ground today at about 14.30 for talks with Clegg it should'nt take bloody 7 hours to sign one player
