Swindon Boss Wilson Confirms Austin at Portman Road Holding Talks
Swindon Boss Wilson Confirms Austin at Portman Road Holding Talks
Thursday, 27th Jan 2011 16:32

Swindon boss Danny Wilson has confirmed that Robins striker Charlie Austin has been at Portman Road today holding talks with the Blues, as reported by TWTD earlier this afternoon. Town and the Wiltshire club have agreed a fee for the 21-year-old believed to be somewhere between £1.5 million and £2 million, including the usual appearance and achievement clauses.

Wilson said: "We've had a bid accepted from them and we've given Charlie permission to talk to Ipswich. What the outcome at this moment in time is I don't know. He's down there at the moment.

"It could be an all day job, it could be tomorrow, it might not happen at all and in a selfish way I hope it doesn't.

"But I can't really see that happening. Particularly now with the transfer window closing, clubs are now looking to get the player they've been tracking for most of the season.

"If Charlie does go, then we'll wish him all the best because he's exceeded everyone's expectations and has done fantastically well for us."

Blackpool are also believed to have made a bid, while Southampton and Burnley have been linked but Town are so far the only club whose offer has been accepted.

We understand Town have offered Austin a three-and-a-half-year contract at Portman Road.

Bonuses for acheivements! Should be here playing football not an XBOX! Wil be very happy if he signs. Does the apparent lack of a bid of a right back or center half means Macauly will be singing?

Nice to see that nowadays players again are joining and negotiating with our club. Story was different during Keanos' era. Thanks PJ.

I left the Emirates thinking what a great week for ITFC but today it just got even better. To quote The Insane One — “Blue Sky's, nothing but blue sky's…”

Come on Ipswich, gone are the days of signing journeymen and unknowns. Let's do a sensible deal with a proven goalscorer. If you can't agree deals to get the right players in, what use are you Simon Clegg?

Reminiscent of Marcus Stewart's transfer.

this shows how much better pj is in the transfer market than rk. Bullard quality player but risky so loan is perfect, austin scoring goals at a bottom of the table club (like us) and also linked with st ledger who is another quality player

A top player in the making. Youthfull, intellegent on the ball and a big goalscorer at all levels so far. Any player from a lower league with this pricetag could be classed a risk but the money needs to be spent on someone who can tick all these boxes and I don't see many other players of this genre wanting in at Town for now. Paul Jewell already looks well on his way to sorting this obvious mess and divide between certain players out!
