Swindon Boss Wilson Confirms Austin at Portman Road Holding Talks
Swindon Boss Wilson Confirms Austin at Portman Road Holding Talks
Thursday, 27th Jan 2011 16:32

Swindon boss Danny Wilson has confirmed that Robins striker Charlie Austin has been at Portman Road today holding talks with the Blues, as reported by TWTD earlier this afternoon. Town and the Wiltshire club have agreed a fee for the 21-year-old believed to be somewhere between £1.5 million and £2 million, including the usual appearance and achievement clauses.

Wilson said: "We've had a bid accepted from them and we've given Charlie permission to talk to Ipswich. What the outcome at this moment in time is I don't know. He's down there at the moment.

"It could be an all day job, it could be tomorrow, it might not happen at all and in a selfish way I hope it doesn't.

"But I can't really see that happening. Particularly now with the transfer window closing, clubs are now looking to get the player they've been tracking for most of the season.

"If Charlie does go, then we'll wish him all the best because he's exceeded everyone's expectations and has done fantastically well for us."

Blackpool are also believed to have made a bid, while Southampton and Burnley have been linked but Town are so far the only club whose offer has been accepted.

We understand Town have offered Austin a three-and-a-half-year contract at Portman Road.

It'll be great if we get Austin. But I do agree with some fans on here. Not that I think he'll be a flop, and I will certainly give the lad a fair crack of the whip but we must remember he hasn't played at this level yet and therefore even if he becomes a great signing it might not be immediately.

Either way its far more exciting times than any of the 20 months we had under Roy Keane.

A few of the morning papers and websites are suggesting that the deal is already complete. The Sun (not untra reliable!) and Mirror both have stories plus a number of others such as link below. Very pleased if true, but lets keep the pressure OFF him!

Up at 5.18 in the morning PJisaGod? What job do you do? :)
moomoosereni, well said. We must give the lad a fair crack of the whip and let him settle into life at Portman Road. It is far more exciting than signing Stern John on loan. Will you be going to match against Derby? Without Kris Commons they will struggle to break us down. If you're going say hello! :)))

Had a really weird dream last night.

Ipswich were playing a Robby Savage led Derby team.

I can't remember all the details but in the match programme Paul Jewell (who seemed to have lost a lot of weight) was saying that it was nice to be playing 4:4:2.

I can't remember the whole team (though I did look at the team on the back of the programme) but we had

Sereni in goal
Keane, Holland, Wark and Muhren in midfield
Gates and Austin

Not that weird (you're probably thinking) bearing in mind the amount of time I spent on the TWTD pages yesterday, but get this:

When I turned round to chastise the man who was complaining that we shouldn't have monkeys as assistant referees let alone women, I saw that it was none other than DirtyDingusMagee's old avatar.

I tell you, you can't make this stuff up.

Radio Wiltshire and Radio Suffolk are both reporting that personal terms could not be agreed and he is now talking to Burnley. Lets hope this is not true.

I hope that Radio Suffolk's report is wrong, otherwise it's good old Ipswich, missed our chance yet again, I'm still hoping though

Agree bizman, if we have failed to agree terms with yet another player, then clearly there is a problem with either the clubs wage structure or with Cleggs abiltiy to deal with players & agents. Keane & now Jewell are experiening the same probs, identifing players but then failing to tie them up. this together with the inability to secure norris & Macualey on new contracts must surly be of great concern.

This apparent upper Management failure to secure Austin by Mr Evans and Mr Clegg, does show us, that for all his faults Roy Keane certainly did have a very difficult time trying to manage Ipswich, I hope that Paul Jewel does not get let down as much, as a loyal supporter I have felt let down many times by this administration's decisions, let's hope that Radio Suffolk has got it wrong !

wrong! - Stewie was playing for one of our rivals in the same league, this lad plays for a 3rd division team, he certainly has potential but is a long way off where Marcus was when we bought him

Reminiscent of Marcus Stewart's transfer.

of course he / agent is going to shop around for the most money, that doesn't mean the deal is dead, but certainly flaky

Guys/Gals, My reliable source was my sister and her fella! I apologise for any false hope that I gave last night... He was apparently at Kesgrave but they didn't speak to him at all! So absolutely no potential brother-in-law!!! Whataknob! ha ha!
I will be gutted if this one doesn't get tied up... My last and final 1% faith in Clegg is being tested! If he can't get this deal done I will be so pi$$ed off and it will definately show that we have a serious issue with having a guy at the helm that knows fcuk all about football or more importantly how to get deals done when it doesn't involve track or field sporting events.... We as supporters cannot be expected to spend a hefty sum each season for the same old dross! Things were so bright and rosey yesterday... Come on Clegg spash the cash! We will save fortunes in the summer after all your other signings leave for FREE!!

This is just awful. Why do we do this to ourselves?

We're so desperate for news we'll believe anything right now.

I mean Charlie Austin's gran is the cleaner at the car hire centre where my brother-in-law works, and she insists that Charlie is still a bricklayer and is working on a new wing of the Wiltshire Police offices in Devizes.
