That Chaplin assist for the first... 08:50 - Oct 4 with 1687 viewsZx1988

I can't get over how good his involvement in the first goal was.

To have the intelligence and awareness to notice, not that Burns was unmarked, but that Burns' marker had drifted across to cover him instead, and then leave the cross intended for him, in the knowledge that Burns should be coming in behind to latch on to it.

Almost as good as the goal itself.

Indeed. I'll add to that that Burns won't hit a better shot all season. Excellent finish.

Yeah, half mentioned on another thread, I’d give him an assist for that first goal. Outstanding awareness (or a massive LEAVE IT call from Burns!)

Ditto Hirst for Hutchinson’s goal against Southampton.
How many strikers with the ball played to their feet at the edge of the opposition box would have the presence of mind and selflessness to step over the ball for the player running in behind.

Shows such a deep, deep level of understanding and cohesion.

It’s really high level stuff.

You can’t shout “leave it”. The ref would award a free kick.

His movement across the line was ridiculous. Oppo need to man mark or double up on him basically, which leaves Burns more space, and when Broadhead is fit it leaves a massive conundrum for the oppo manager.

Yes, exceptional awareness.

I'd also like to add a mention for Marcus Harness' pass to Davis for Chaplin's goal. That pass turns a promising break, of the kind of which you see 10 or 15 in a game (and which usually end in one of our players being pulled back and the referee failing to give a card) into a completely opened up defence and cross for a brilliant goal. The pass turns a defence which is tracking our runners well into one which is chasing vainly and can't cover every option for Chaplin's movement.

Great cross, great finish, but the pass from Harness made it possible.

Chappers is moving to the next level under KM. The awareness was excellent, and not for the first time this season.

Yes, the commentary said ‘it’s over Chaplin’, but even from the North Stand you see he’s dropped his shoulder and left it for Wes. Sublime. He was full of deft touches and turns last night.
