PLC Share Dividends
at 12:58 29 Apr 2024

Having read the news article stating that there will be no dividend for PLC shareholders this year, and that any and all future dividends will be paid in their entirety to GameChanger, I was just wondering what others make of this.

For clarity, I have no skin in the game here; I wasn't anywhere near old/well-off enough to buy shares back in 2003.

I get the point of view that those who bought the shares probably saw it as a donation to the club in return for a share certificate, with little/no expectation of the shares ever generating a dividend or being worth anything, but is it right for the PLC board to be making a unanimous decision to that effect without consulting the shareholders?

What about those who may have fallen upon harder times, and had a little hope post-GC that the shares might end up being worth something or bought back?

If they're going to essentially treat the shares as worthless, would the decent thing to do not be to offer to buy them back as a token gesture of thanks?

So much for 'lucky old Ipswich', Hull have somehow been allowed to bring on 11.7m people.

Fantastic never say die attitude.

Dropped off the pace a little since they won the Bundesliga (understandably) but have maintained their unbeaten record in the three games since then with 89th, 97th, and 96th minute equalisers.

No such stress for us over the next three, please!

Didn't realise that the 3pm blackout came with an exemption for final-day drama.

A mildly cromulent way to kill a few hours this afternoon, especially if they decide just to pass it about for 90mins...

Hypothetically...
at 10:00 27 Apr 2024

A traveller from next Saturday teatime knocks on your door this afternoon, and tells you that Town will win two and lose one of the next three.

Would you want the two wins to be against Hull and Coventry, promoting us on Tuesday night and turning Huddersfield into a huge promotion party where the result doesn't matter?

Or would you rather promotion was won at home on the final day; potentially a nervy affair, but with the massive spontaneous outpouring of joy at the final whistle?

Just looked at home tickets for Coventry, and noticed that the second half of the away end hasn't been made available for home purchase.

Surely they'd be mad to turn down an all-but-guaranteed sell-out of the remaining seats, especially with their season all but over?

Perfect from an ITFC viewpoint

Utterly heartbreaking for Coventry, and an illustration of all that's wrong with moder football.

But...

Perfect for ITFC in terms of physical and emotional toll? Especially that last minute 'winner'.

FA Cup semi-finals
at 18:06 21 Apr 2024

As much as I loathe the fact that the FA Cup semis are played at Wembley these days, are there actually (m)any stadia that could host them any more?

I assume that with new stadia being of a bowl-type design (Spurs' full circumference concourse, for example) it would be a lot harder (if not impossible) to put in place an effective 50:50 segregation in most grounds?

I assume the usual modus operandi was to give each time a side stand and end stand each?

The UK court system

Absolutely f**ked beyond belief, isn't it!?

I was just reading an update on the BW situation, and I understand that the outcome of his appearance today was that he's been bailed to return to court w/c 17th March 2025 for trial. For an alleged offence that took place in August 2023.

Has it always been this bad?

Seemingly the answer to the question: "What would happen if you gave 'that kid' from school a multi-million-pound-a-year contract, and access to the world's gaze?".

Strikes me as a complete and utter div, but undoubtedly a sh*thouser of the highest order who any fan would probably love to have at their club.

***IF***

IF we go into the final day with a 0-0 draw suiting all parties, are there any rules preventing us and Huddersfield going full on "Schande von Gijon" and spending 90mins kicking the ball about the middle of the park?

I'm sure Coventry did similar against Exeter(?) a few seasons back, which ended up relegating Barnet.

Surely there are no rules against tactically not taking a single risk?

Fixture congestion

Spare a thought for the run-ins of Truro and Gateshead.

Truro are having to fit 10 games into 20 days as a result of postponements, including having to play Saturday, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday this week!

Gateshead have had a bit of a pile-up as well (not helped by last night's postponement), and most likely will have to play Thursday, Saturday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday for their run in.

Sports Direct missing out - my heart bleeds
at 15:20 9 Apr 2024

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-68769820

TL;DR - Newcastle have agreed an exclusivity deal allowing JD Sports sole rights (outside of the club) to sell their kits next season. Sports Direct have kicked off as "if Newcastle fans were unable to buy their kits at Sports Direct then they wouldn't buy other goods there either and "may never come back", with people "losing faith in the credibility" of the store.".

My gut reaction is that it sucks to be them, but do any of the more learned folks on here know if SD actually have any sort of claim?

I've seen a few mentions suggesting that KMc not starting Ali suggests that he doesn't trust him.

Could it not necessarily be that, but that the loan deal with Bournemouth stipulates that KM must start if available and fit?

More annoyed about Cardiff
at 14:57 6 Apr 2024

As galling as that was, I'm more annoyed about the Cardiff capitulation than today.

Whatever the respective league positions, it's always a tough game at Carrow Road. They could have been in Rotherham's position and still given us one hell of a game - it's just they way they and derbies are.

Cardiff hacks me off. Had we held on for the win there, today would have been much more of a free hit.

Morsy/Downes
at 21:29 1 Apr 2024

Two points from tonight:

Amazing self-discipline from Morsy in the second half, with Downes trying to goad him into lashing out and getting himself sent off.

Also, for me, Morsy's replacement was on the pitch tonight in the form of Downes. Niggly little twot, but precisely the kind of niggly little twot that we'd love if he was back at PR. Fairly tidy player now as well.
