No doubt there will be people taking notice but despite his impressive pedigree he's hardly begun in management. I'm sure he'd want to see a season out here and hopefully get us up, and after that there wouldn't be many better job in the championship. He looks like a prem manager in the making and if I was Ashton I'd be quietly tracking potential successors even now. |  | | |

Wouldn’t be surprised. Championship clubs could come knocking if we’re doing well… although I think clubs would be most looking at the style we play, given the strength of our squad should really have us competing anyway.

There is another forum thread that confirms that it was Paul Cook who recruited the bulk of our first team.
OK, McK took over an under performing squad and made them a winning side and that's what a desperate club is looking for.
But (big but this one) he hasn't been in charge of high paid prima donnas who are p*ssed off with how things are going.
Could he handle the egos?
He needs to stay and complete his apprenticeship IMO. |  |

Looking at the Championship clubs, the standout potential wise is Sunderland. The rest offer no more opportunity than here at best.

KM has said a number of times that ITFC is a perfect project for him, which to me means 3 years minimum. If promoted, he will be given funds to get us into PL.
He will be given time and space to grow.

He was at Manchester United in a coaching/assistant manager role for three years. Pretty sure he will have had to deal wth some very highly paid, very peed off prima donnas in his time. | |

Not sure many championship clubs would be too attractive a proposition vs. a top of L1 club with deep pockets and embarking on a potentially very exciting project. If he can take us up to the right end of the Championship (or better) then he’ll certainly have offers to manage in the premier league. I wouldn’t see a championship club as a worthwhile stepping stone at this moment in time.
I think the risk as others have said is that possibly a Prem side sees him as a progressive long term appointment and takes something of a calculated punt over the next 6 months. If we’re top and looking good in January and a Villa or Everton came sniffing once they’ve realised their ‘big name’ isn’t cutting the mustard then you would think it would be hard to keep him. It’s going to be West Ham isn’t it? Thought of that makes me sick. |  |

The trouble is there’s nothing to be gained by going to a club like Brighton. They’ve done brilliantly but they’re as good as they’re ever going to be. Same with the likes of Leicester or Palace.
Leicester in particular have defied gravity, but with their better players gone or ageing I’m not sure it’d be a great move for an ambitious man like McKenna who I suspect will in the long term eye up an Everton level club. West Ham is a possibility.
But regardless, I think he will be with us a couple of years at least. | | | |

Ashton confirmed when we appointed McKenna, he does just that, tracks up and coming managers.
If/when McKenna leaves, I suspect we will see another similar appointment to him come in, up and coming young coach from the Prem, or someone else around the globe. |  |
