He is a fantastic footballer and I'll take your word on the charity stuff. But he gets fully involved in gamesmanship - Trying to get players booked or sent off, or diving. Rightly or wrongly, he is arrogant. So it is hardly surprising that people find it funny when things don't go his way. I say that as someone who is on the Ronaldo side of the GOAT argument. Ronaldo's reaction at the end was instructive, he was clearly really frustrated to lose but he took a second to got over that and congratulated Courtois before having a long conversation with Lukaku. If the director was hoping for a tantrum he didn't get it.

Yesterday, when body checked, he went down holding his face trying to get his opponent sent off. That's sh1thousery and he does it consistently. A player of immense talent who will also be remembered for the diving/exageration etc.

I think it's quite possible to dislike him but still have respect for what he has achieved, how he's adapted to losing some of his pace and incredible workrate / drive.

He’ll be remembered as a cheater by the people who bang in about it all of the time. The same people who go on about 1966 and that handball by Maradona

I'd ignore anything that waster says on this forum about football. Cheap digs, being easily offended and repetitive, sh*te jokes are more his thing.

On one hand... on 09:11 - Jun 28 with 1427 views | ElephantintheRoom | Bit od an odd attitude celebtraing not seeing any more of probably the best European player of the last 50 years. I think i'd be tempted to cry too if I'd just come out of a group containing Germany and France - and then been 'rewarded' with a tie against Belgium. - but hey ho - its a very strange competition this time around.

He is a fantastic footballer. He is also incredibly vain, and egotistical. These do not necessarily go hand in hand, but perhaps in Ronaldo's case it has pushed him on. And fair play. I would never downplay his efforts on the field and his charity work just because of his ego. But it does make me smile wryly when he doesn't get some new record. It's very much about Ronaldo first, Portugal second. Does that make him a wkner? Not really, and anyone who says he's not an all time great possibly doesn't really watch much footy. But......... :)

The evidence of that is clear from how despised the 1966 world cup winning squad were. B'stards.

On one hand... on 09:25 - Jun 28 with 1342 views | clive_baker | No doubt about his abilities as a footballer, certainly he and Messi are the standout players of a generation. The longevity he's demonstrated, the completeness in his game too, quick, strong, can finish, can head, can pass, can cross, his ability to beat a man, to lead. A phenomenal bloke really, utter perfectionist and an addict in pursuit of success. I really admire his professionalism. The very fact Belgium had just dumped Portugal out and the first thing we saw on our screens was Ronaldo tells you what you need to know, he's box office. That can make him easy to dislike, his arrogance and swag and the fact it always has to be about him (even if not always his own doing). I'll never forget that wink to the bench when he got Rooney sent off. Absolute winker. Class player though.
