Indeed. But it is strange that no one notified staff at the station, some of whom would certainly be first aid trained and could advise.
Either way, the pair of old puffins clearly got back safely and are appreciative of our chap's efforts. |  |

People can be funny when they hurt themselves like that; don't want a fuss and can be quite stubborn about it too.
I took one elderly lady to a doctor's against her will once and she was furious. (She was in the car for a lift home and fell as she was getting in - I didn't kidnap her). Her face was a bloody state but she kept insisting I took her straight home.
She sent a thank you later. It's a mixture of shock and embarrassment at the time isn't it. |  |

What happened to the First Response scheme?
That worked a treat; a single paramedic sent to a scene, arrived quickly, assessed the person on the spot and either dealt with the episode there and then or recommended further support and called an ambulance.
Made complete sense and was a potential life-saver whilst also preserving ambulance units and their crews for more necessary situations. | |

There is only one reason for first responders... response times. When I worked for the LAS, response time for red calls was set at 8 mins. If we didn't reach 85% of patients within 8 mins, the service lost funding. A seriously ill or injured patient should be in hospital, not being examined by a single medic who can't transport them. | |
