Tim Martin’s business offers low prices for consumers and preserves historic buildings for the community. As such he’s probably more deserving of a gong than most other recipients.
Spoons is about the only place you can sit in with a hot meal + a pint & get change of a tenner. Refill coffee for £1.50. As said good, sensitive restoration of heritage buildings too
Is it perfect? No. I disagree with many of Tim's views. But much of the Spoons criticism is unwarranted.
He created a business that employs over 43,000 people and pays over £660m tax every year.

He has the ability to ruin the entire brewing industry, as he is the biggest customer for most of their output. 'spoons has an office in Greene King and many other breweries. They all have to produce to his price and his timescales, and that's part of the reason quality suffers (the other is staff who can't keep beer properly).
Were he to pull the plug, pretty much the entire brewing industry would be destroyed. |  |

Cheap food, handy toilets in most towns, beer cheap but lucky to get a tasty pint as seems to get barrels on or near expiry date, hence insipid. Knighthood justified as runs over 800 pubs and employs 30-40,000 and gives many people a step on to hospitality career and gives the public a cheap and cheerful product. Negative side his politics, esp his pro-Brexit stance,
surprised he hasn't admitted he was wrong esp as he lost so many hard working employees.
Littering the bar tops and tables with pro-Brexit literature was amateurish. Given that Johnson and the '40 day blunder woman' gave out gongs to all friends and donors however

i haven't been in many or very often, but they've always been well run and the beer has been well kept. they are also great at keeping historic buildings in use and preserving them. i don't agree with his politics. but the vitriol directed at his pubs is just pure snobbery (including the modern left's dislike of having to actually see working class people) plus political point scoring. |  |
