Personally found it pretty disappointing, I've really liked his early stand ups but found this one so weak.
Not sure whether it was because an early show and hasn't put it all together properly as yet - but it felt so poorly crafted and just generally really weak.
Felt like premise of show was to talk a bit about being woke, try and make a really obvious joke about something where you could see punchline a mile off, or just say something of shock jock type to say - and then the attempt to knit it together at the end was just to say "Free speech is being able to make offensive jokes, and laughing at them doesn't make you a bad person" like most people would agree with anyway but as though it was some massive epiphany
Some of the jokes were clever, and felt like this could be going somewhere good - but then too often ended up with a joke that wouldn't be out of place at a Jim Davidson show but pretending it was edgy rather than just lazy and easy
A real shame, used to be such a big fan but feel each show he's done has got progressively worse since The Office to After Life.....but his stand up had got better from his first up until that last one which was a bit weak.....but then that was most streamed show on Netflix, and like After Life it's total creative control for him and people watch it in their droves so can see why it works for him. I'll watch it on Netflix, but mostly to see if it has improved and if he has managed to craft it better as a narrative

At the same time, why should you or anyone else care how people want to label themselves?
Live and let live.
People can label themselves how they want, but other people will judge them for it especially if it does on impinge on ither peoples rights or safe spaces.
And I don't generally include trans people in that, the vast majority are just born in the wrong body and want to get on with their lives and have been doing so for years - it's only recently that this new form of gender fluidity seems to have taken over the debate tat has made all this happen.
Ricky Gervais at Regent -**SPOILERS FOR THOSE GOING TONIGHT** on 09:15 - Nov 17 by itfcjoe
There was barely anything in the show about it, a couple of throwaway lines for an easy laugh.
EDIT - And I think there were some good bits touched on, like people who are straight, who have always been straight, who have never had a relationship with the same sex who now use the term 'queer' to describe themselves despite being in a straight section relationship.
What's so difficult about being Straight, Gay or Bi? Similar to gender fluidity - pick a side and get on with life

I can't think of a single reason why the scenario you outline is a problem/annoying/negative.

But it’s not fair play, is it? Or an opinion because that’s historically how the majority has acted even over simple stuff like gay marriage until very recently.
Re: transphobia, the UK has been singled out for its pretty much world-leading trans hate. Putting us in the same category as Russia, Hungary and Poland when it comes to LGBT rights as a whole.

The majority is wrong. Like it was about racism, homophobia, misogyny and so on.
Happens all the time — that’s why minorities have to fight for their rights and need defending until the majority gets educated or dies out.
None of those things clash with each other though.
Trans rights and womens rights clash in certain situations, leading to trans rights activists accusing womens rights activists of transphobia, and womens rights activists accusing trans rights acitivists of mysogyny.
If they all calmed down and stopped the name-calling and abuse we can try and find a middle path

I’d be wary of saying feminism clashes with trans rights. That’s the case pushed by some radicals and right-wing media.
But really we’re talking about a clash between radical transphobia and decency.

I don't see J K Rowling and Andy Wightman as part of teh right-wing media at all, whether or not they are 'radical' is, I guess, dependent upon how right wing you are...

No. More that you have people making a stand against trans rights ostensibly because it’s about protecting women’s rights and safety. And a right-wing media who think trans is woke nonsense and that women are unsafer as a result.
Very different but conjoined by a fairly extreme and hyperbolic fear that really doesn’t stack up with reality.

I loved the Office, Extras was good as well.
But his stand up and Afterlife is genuinely appalling. All of his jokes are the same. There are only so many times you can say you aren't religious before it becomes boring.
Afterlife is a fantastic series. Granted the third series isn't as good.

Simply, it’s about personal identification and perception.
Some people identify as being working class/middle class, those things traditionally were classified by earnings or profession, now it’s more subjective and less relevant so people can determine how to label themselves
Some people class themselves as right wing/left wing, socialist, centerist etc, no rule book definition, it’s probably shifted over time according to whoever is placing the label.
I just don’t see why you feel concerned over why some people label themselves in a certain way over their sexuality or gender, just because you can’t comprehend it doesn’t mean it’s not material to others or give you a reason to judge them

Reading the original post I was reminded of the opening section of James Acaster's (2019) tour - it reinforces how predictable Gervais' material has become.
I would highly recommend Cold Lasagne Hate Myself 1999 if you want to watch a tightly crafted show

"Imagine being a heterosexual white male in Britain at this moment. How bad is that. Everything you say is racist, everything you say is homophobic. The Woke community have really f****d this country."
Not too dissimilar to what I thought about it - there were good threads to pull at and some good observations but it was just a weak and lazy show at doing it. Poorly crafted and nothing like what the top comedians are doing these days.

I watched Jimmy carr 4 days later, he was on the stage over an hour longer than RG, and was better.

And was £3 cheaper
I watched Romesh’s show on Netflix last night and was really good, well crafted and put together - I’ll be interesting to see what RG’s show is like by the time he gets there

I’ve been to see him each of his previous times in Ipswich but I watched five minutes of his latest one on Netflix and couldn’t stand it. He’s fallen into the trap of thinking that rabbiting on about being woke and people being offended is a good routine but it’s just really not funny at all, aside from making him look like a twaat.
