Running towards adversity... 14:14 - Jun 16 with 8529 views | Marshalls_Mullet | I like the new kits, pleased the clubs new slogan wasn't made visible. I suspect Mark Ashton would have liked it to be on view. Just seems a bit try hard to me. On the KOA podcast, the players didn't seem interested in the slogan when it was mentioned. It was almost glossed over.

Running towards adversity... on 16:25 - Jun 16 by clive_baker | An old captain of mine used to encourage us to "get our dicks up" before a game. He didn't mean literally thankfully, but used to bark it at everyone. "Get your f***ing d**ks up lads". Irish, hard as nails. |
I’d get him in as motivational coach asap. I like his style

FFS - it's a nod towards the folks whose pension fund we are spending. Footballers aren't putting our fires. We bloody know that. But we can show some respect to the folks who are.

I don't think it's about comparing anything. It's literally just saying face up to your challenge, and players do need to do that, or they should do and esp if they now want to play for town. You may not like the particular phrasing, think most agree it is straight out of the office but I think it did come from a conversation with the fire fighters or their union Phil might recall that bit maybe nonsense but isn't it the meaning, not the actual words, whether it says running towards adversity, let's kin have it, pride in the badge, face the fear, just do it or you gotta fight for your right to paarrrrty isn't as relevant as what you take from the wider message which to me is Stand up, be counted, leave it all on the pitch give it your all and mostly you now play for Ipswich and that does apply to footballers. I get the cringe, I don't disagree with it, but I think you have to look past it for what's really being said. Some players won't think twice about it, I bet Dominic Ball will though [Post edited 16 Jun 2022 17:33]

Running towards adversity... on 15:24 - Jun 16 by BasingstokeBlue | Why is it there at all? Haven't any of the club's officers looked up the meaning of "adversity" yet? The whole slogan means "hurtling towards hardship." Surely this is not the intended club philosophy? |
To be fair that might be exactly what they will be hurtling towards if we don’t get promotion soon.

I'm very relaxed - hose / flowers / hammock / wine ... and it isn't deep at all. I'm stunned that folks don't get the connection between a firefighters pension fund who own us and a tiny, tiny idiom / epithet that sums up the ethos of the aforementioned owners. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Before the takeover, it would have meant descending down the divisions. Paul Hurst was certainly running in that sense, but Lambert was a little slower.

Wow there are some angry people for daring to question something. People get it. It's just some us of think it's a little odd, and that is absolutely nothing to do with lack of respect for those who work for the fire service, who's pension fund invested in us.

Tbf you guys do have a point. You look at spurs. Dare to dream.. OK relevant. Makes sense in football. Run towards a tough time doesn't quite have the same feel

As someone who works with words for a living, I do agree the actual messaging itself is slightly off. IMO it should be Running Through Adversity.

Not sure any comparison is intended, more the implication that the attitude shown by the police/fire serviec should be emulated by the team, not shirking the challenge etc. Military metaphors are often used in football which I'd say could be viewed as more questionable.

Do you even get for a minute that whoever represents us ( G20 I assume ) has to eventually report to folks who make the ultimate decision about us. So I would guess the 3 US guys ( Brett and Berkay and the other guy ) have to speak to the owners and continually "sell" us to them and the shareholders and the pension holders. You know, just to let them know what's going on with us and how we are doing. So I imagine it works really really well when a small phrase, which can hardly be seen by anyone, forms some small link with what the Fund actually does and what their football team is wearing. It's not going to change the world or save lives or make us win more but it's something. Not much but something. But you seem to think it's "odd". Honestly I haven't got words to describe you.

It's bizarre, isn't it, getting so vexxed by a slogan, that you end up calling people moron's. It's corporate waffle, we've all heard it and had it rammed down our throat, yet every employee smiles and nods and soon forgets it. Just have to look at Burns and Wolfies reaction to it in the video.

I see that slogan , as Ipswich Town challenging anything that’s put in our way that’s is trying to stop our goal of promotion. You can either run away from a threat…or meet it head on and deal with it. Hence running toward adversity….

I dont think its intended to be any reflection of what the players are doing or stand for at all. Its a message aimed at them, a reminder of what brought them here and why they shouldnt take that lightly. Given that we are probably attracting a lot of players to sign on the basis of high wages, its not a bad message to remind them that it isnt some oil magnate funding that, but essentially the retirement money of a load of fireman and policeman who sacrifice a whole lot more than they likely will. Just a reminder to keep up standards/discipline etc.

I worked for a housing company based in London and they had a mascot called the Hug Monster. if you were looking run down or grumpy, the person in the Hug suit would come and hug you. It was sad enough that someone thought of this idea, but the fact someone actually donned the costume as part of their job every Friday... It learned to never come near me.
