I don't think that's fair either though.
He was starting in the position he wants, in behind the front two and had very little impact in that position in the first half. To say he was no better or worse than when he's played out of position is a bit odd in my opinion.
He's one of the highest earners in the league, he's a full international. He needs to be stamping his mark on games against Tranmere at home.

Well I didn't say that so you don't need to find it odd.
He was ok, didn't do enough in the first half like pretty much all his teammates but was more positive in the 2nd, feeding Jackson several times and getting much more involved. Should have buried the chance that Downes put in offside and should have given himself a golden one from Jackson's cross but his overall performance was nowhere near 'pretty poor'.
In general, I agree he needs to be doing more, and today proved what everyone knew already about him needing to play in a role where him drifting about doesn't become disruptive. That wasn't the point, however, which is why how much he earns and whether he's an international player or not means b()gger all to addressing the performance of an individual game. |  |
