Might sound like an odd question to throw out there of a Friday afternoon but spent my lunch break at work having the debate with a colleague about the lack of gay footballers that are out. I'm of the opinion that they're in an environment that doesn't lend itself to them coming out, where as he is adamant there's a disproportionately low number of homosexual footballers, for reasons he couldn't really explain. Said they would gravitate to other careers, which is why he believes it transcends to the stands too. I'm not sure about that, but of the 3 gay people I know, none have any interest in football. |  |

We all agree on that. The question was an interesting one IMO.
I wish pundits and random non football fan commentators would stop going on about how fans would react. It just reinforces this stereotype of football fans as mindless idiots. I think people would be amazed at the support the player would get.
Another thing that has crossed my mind is whether the owners/chairmen would want it to happen at their club. We've all see the stats where 10% or so would stop watching their team. This would be laughed off at United or City where i'm sure there are long waiting lists but what about a club that doesn't fill their ground? Would they really want to lose that revenue knowing it wouldn't be replaced? Obviously in a perfect world money wouldn't come into it but it's worth asking IMO. |  |

This won't lead to any popularity here (I'm not about being popular), but I'm going to defend Wadey here.
Wadey clearly has a normal life inasmuch as he doesn't live on this forum as others appear to. He has obviously missed the threads where gay forum members have openly mentioned their sexuality.
With that in mind, it's understandable how J2's "there are a few on here" could be misinterpreted.
That said, Wadey's choice of words were a little overly direct.
Give Wadey a break, he hasn't shown any bigotry towards gays in his comment - just a misinterpretation... probably. |  |
