Watching the Match of the Day Ipswich History
at 19:47 26 Mar 2024

A wonderful walk down memory lane. Even footage of my first ever match in Oct 1970 when Town beat Liverpool with a goal from Mick Hill. I don't think I have seen that footage since it was aired on MOTD fifty-four years ago. Urgh I feel old!

He is simply the best player I have seen in a town shirt in many years. Agree that he was awesome today...again!

Churchmans, Wonders of the World was unique according to Murray's Cigarette Card Guide in that the series was not actually issued in packs. I'm not sure why, but because of this the catalogue has no date for the set. However, don't get your hopes up as the catalogue price (2012) was £17.50 per set! There are currently some on Ebay selling for less.
A lovely set none the less.

I am a deltiologist and a cartophile. In other words, I collect post cards and cigarette cards!
I have a collection of a few thousand East Suffolk post cards (mostly around the Woodbridge/Felixstowe area). I also collect the art post cards of A.R Quinton published in the early 1900's by J. Salmon Ltd. There are over 4000 different ones and I have about 200 still to find. Some of the ones I'm missing are very rare and sell for £100s, so I doubt I will get them all.

I have many complete sets of cigarette cards by Wills, Players, Gallaghers and of course Churchmans! Also have the complete set of tea cards from Brooke Bond (PG Tips) and Typhoo.

I have just had a new bookcase built to store all my albums. Mrs swede and the juniors think I am obsessed!

I also remember a game against Charlton when the stewards had to speak several times to a Charlton dad about his aggressive behaviour and foul language. He calmed down a bit when they threatened to eject him and his boy.

Like all on here, I'm completely stunned and gutted at probably the worst result in our history that will be replayed over and over for many years to compound the embarrassment.

There must be lessons learned and the biggest has to be that it is imperative that we buy a proven goal scorer this week or the wonderful season so far is finished. Mark Ashton must go the maximum possible and get the player(s) needed for the final push. The stats today, speak for themselves and the only one that matters is goals scored. We failed miserably on that front and it is clear that Broadhead is not the answer as a straight replacement for the injured Hurst.

KMcK has completely revolutionised this club from twenty years of misery, but I hope he has learned a tough lesson too. I don't think he disrespected Maidstone, but he thoroughly underestimated them and made too many changes. Sone Aluko is a great guy and will no doubt become a successful coach, but this must be his last appearance in an ITFC shirt. He failed miserably in the role today.

It was a big mistake too to change the defence and keeper. It totally disrupted the way we normally play from the back.

Embarrassing, yes, but if lessons are learned quickly, it could still be an amazing season.

Would that have been Woodbridge School? I went to the second replay on a mini-bus from Woodbridge School, but we were not allowed to go to the third replay two days later.

Suffolk Artist
at 09:58 18 Jan 2024

My favourite Suffolk artist is Ipswich born Leonard Squirrell (1893-1979). He lived and painted in Suffolk for most of his life and is best known for his posters often used in railway carriages.

I agree. I was in the SBR upper and it was very noticeable that all around me were much quieter, very nervous and wrapped up like Michelin men!

One thing I felt about last night
at 10:08 30 Dec 2023

Agreed, it was so frustrating to see the amount of time he wasted every time he got the ball. Is there really any need to adjust your socks twice before every goal/free kick taken?
A few red card would soon stop this nonsense,

Nonsense, They are where they are, because they are the best in this league.
I will be delighted if we finish one place behind them this season.

Leaf blowers - AARRRGGGHHH!!!
at 17:22 17 Oct 2023

Most pointless invention ever unless you are going to pick them up afterwards!

I was walking past the Willis building in town the other day and a chap had a leaf blower blowing them off the pavement through the railings into the Unitarian Churchyard.
Behind him the wind was blowing them from the churchyard back through the railings onto the pavement. I suppose it keeps him in employment having to do it again the next day...
