As if to reinforce this, there's a long article on the Guardian website today about the seemingly never ending saga of Ron Martin and Southend United. https://www.theguardian.com/football/2024/may/02/southend-united-fc-slow-death-p We rightly celebrate where we currently are due to the challenges of the Evans era, but they almost pale into insignificance compared to those of Southend United. Perhaps that is the way we were headed until GC came along. |

Some of his family were in the away end last night, hope they're sticking around for Saturday. |

Made a conscious decision to listen to BBC Suffolk rather than watch on Sky last night. Mick Mills was calm throughout and seemed to be pretty convinced we would prevail. |

Blimey, I guess that emotional roller coaster doesn't even begin to cover it but I hope you're able to get through today and that the end of this week will bring you something happy. |

What would have happened had we got him last summer? Would we have started this season with Walton no. 1 keeper, Southwood no.2 and Hladky told he has surplus to requirements and therefore allowed to leave? |

Ipswich Borough and Suffolk County Councillor Sam Murray isn't overly impressed with their erstwhile colleague:

Does this mean that Henry Gray will be going back to Chelmsford for their Nat League South playoff semi final against the mighty Braintree Town? Booo, if so. |

Reissue of those red training sweatshirts please. And John Wark is my favourite ever player, what a man. |

If the Premier League teams want to avoid replays then an alternative would be for from the 3rd round onwards, any PL side that plays a team from a lower division and draws their tie is eliminated from the competition as if they'd lost. No replay for the poor Premier League team to put themselves through in the case of a draw and the lower league team gets another chance at some financial benefit. [Post edited 19 Apr 14:02]

As someone who grew up there, and still has family there, I too hope that they are on the way back up. Making the playoffs would be quite the achievement. With Braintree and Chelmsford going well in the division below, Essex teams are doing OK in the upper echelons of non-league. Not sure that Col Utd joining them would be a good idea though but they're looking like they'll stay up. [Post edited 19 Apr 11:08]

It would be interesting to find out how many times a headline of that nature has been published in the Evening Echo over the past 25 odd years. I think that their move to a new stadium development is possibly the longest in football history. Any plan related to Southend United and Ron Martin selling is always in the 'believe it when I see it' category |

My brother's got a Toyota Alphard converted to campervan, it's pretty swish inside but you can get them as conversions with different levels of interior luxury. It's a way of avoiding the 'VW tax'. If you're looking to replace the family car, the fact that they only come with a fairly large petrol engine and automatic gearbox might put you off however. |

There will be people along soon with much more useful input than I can give. However, do not underestimate the impact of grief, especially sudden unexpected grief. That may have knocked you sideways to the extent that your ability to handle the other things you mention is seriously diminished. Hang in there, you've taken a very important step by acknowledging the situation. |
