Wrexham have signed an experienced goal scorer
at 10:08 1 Feb 2024

According to https://www.ntt20.com/p/efl-january-transfer-deadline-day-signings they're splashing more of the cash on one Jack Marriott.

He's done alright at the level he's comfortable at over the years since we binned him.

Was anyone else following the Notts County v Grimsby score on Saturday
at 17:26 15 Jan 2024

as they travelled to our game? Absolutely bonkers 5-5 draw with two goals from David McGoldrick, the second of which was surely the winner to make it 4-5 in the 90-somethingth minute only for a great equaliser by a Grimsby sub in the 90-somethingth plus minute

Here are the highlights - best bit is how Grimsby really should have worked out where the Notts' danger was coming from and tried to stop it (that bloke's now got 16 assists already this season).

QPR have made 29th December a bit more interesting
at 10:49 1 Nov 2023

Are we going to get the two toughest home tests of the season in consecutive games?

McKenna ball against the new QPR manager’s approach could just lead to two teams trying to draw the other’s press onto them so they can play it out from the back and quickly get up the pitch to create chances. Will it be the ultimate expression of modern tactics resulting in everything collapsing in on itself and a rupture in the time/space continuum?

Or will Cifuentes not have had enough time to turn André Dozzell into the Championship Xavi, making us lucky to play them early in his tenure?

As ever Loft for Words has an entertaining and informative piece on their new manager.

New York accommodation advice wanted.
at 16:35 10 Oct 2023

Planning a wedding anniversary trip to New York around this time next year.
Historically, there's been loads of New York travel-related advice on here but most of it pre-dates the pandemic and the city's recent crackdown on unlicensed AirBnB rentals.
Does anyone have any post-pandemic advice on which parts of New York to stay in for a first timer and recommendations for hotels/accommodation rentals please?
We'd like to do most of the usual things - Central Park, Ellis Island, MoMA, go up a tall building etc. and there will be just the two of us.
Thanks

Idea for Radio Suffolk

Rather than apologise to two callers who you didn't have time to fit in after the game, why not tell shameless self publicist Frank, who doesn't go to games, that he's not going to have the opportunity to bore the listeners senseless this week.

Wembley Stadium travel
at 18:21 15 Jun 2023

What’s the best way to travel to and from Wembley Stadium this Saturday from Braintree area? Wife and teenage kids are going to see Harry Styles. Had an email from Ticketmaster discouraging the use of Wembley Park and Wembley Stadium/Wembley Central are less convenient if going into Liverpool Street/Stratford.

Public transport preferred but driving part way is possible, or being collected from somewhere in outer London afterwards by car (if getting public transport in that direction afterwards is easier).

Thanks

I've bought tickets for the Saturday as I like Go Team and it should be fun to mooch about watching a load of artists I've never heard of.

Interesting article on the decision to relinquish a season ticket
at 10:44 24 Apr 2023

It's by Watford supporting Guardian journalist Simon Burnton and I guess reflects quite a few people's thoughts about Ipswich in the last years of the Evans era.

https://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2023/apr/24/watford-season-ticket-fans

Maybe Watford need to drop a bit lower like we did before they start the long climb back towards the top. It certainly feels good when you get the sense your club is back travelling in the right direction.

There's some good stuff in the comments too.

Hopefully we don't sell out as I'm planning to go with my son who is studying in Sheffield.

Attending Lincoln game following self-isolation
at 16:37 28 Dec 2021

Having tested positive for Covid on 23rd December I have been told by NHS Test/Trace to isolate until 29th.

I have a ticket for the Lincoln game on New Years Day so checked the NHS app earlier to see the Covid passport I created in time for the Sunderland game (which I didn’t attend in the end) and downloaded to my phone is still valid. It tells me I can’t use an existing pass, or create a new one following my positive test, until 3rd January.

However the requirements for entry to the game are “proof of full vaccination via a COVID Pass or a negative lateral flow test which has been administered no earlier than 48 hours before kick-off.”

I did a lateral flow test this morning — negative. So, assuming I continue to test negative for the next 4 days can I attend the game by showing the test result rather than the Covid pass? That would be in keeping with the letter of the requirements, is it in the spirit of them?

Does anyone know how the possible takeover will be funded?
at 14:44 3 Mar 2021

One thing I haven't seen discussed is whether the takeover will load a pile of debt onto the club as happened recently at Burnley and was how the Glaziers took over Man Utd. Or are the potential investors using their own money, or money they're borrowing themselves?

That could make or break it for me.

Could we set an unwelcome English football record?
at 11:23 1 Feb 2021

I was wondering whether we have fallen to the lowest point of any English club to have won a European trophy.

Apparently former two times European Champions Nottingham Forest managed to sink to 21st in League One after 7 games of the 2005-06 season before finishing 7th which was their lowest ever league finish. We haven’t got all the way down to 21st yet, have we? But we did finish lower than 7th last season.

Leeds (twice winners of the Inter City Fairs Cup) were still bottom of League One after five games of the 2007-08 season despite winning all five as they’d been deducted points for insolvency. It took them until the sixth league game to move up to 20th and they finished the season 5th.

Manchester City (once winners of the Inter City Fairs Cup) were in the third division in 1998-99 and dropped as low as 13th in December ’98 before finishing 3rd, their lowest ever league finish. They did go up via the playoffs that season.

I think that at the current rate of progress we will finish a completed season (rather than a truncated one like last season) in the lowest position of any English club to have won a European trophy.

There’s one for the CV Marcus Evans and Paul Lambert.

Jim McLean RIP & excellent article with Paul Lambert content

Found out about the death of Jim McLean, manager of Dundee United, on the Guardian Football Weekly podcast.

They referred to an article in Scottish football publication The Nutmeg, and it's well worth a read including mention of our current manager and excellent Duncan Ferguson anecdote. Here it is - https://www.nutmegmagazine.co.uk/issue-11/jousting-with-jim/

Anniversary of the Superga air disaster today
at 11:29 4 May 2020

Today is the 71st anniversary of the Superga air crash which killed the Grande Torino team. It's a fascinating story of one of Serie A's most successful team.

If you have a few lockdown minutes to kill there's an article about the manager, Erno Erbstein, the Nazis didn't get him but the Superga air crash did, here - https://www.theguardian.com/football/2015/jan/22/erno-erbstein-hungary-holocaust

The book about his life published by The Blizzard is a great read.

Anyone got Gigaclear broadband?
at 18:24 6 Apr 2020

They laid the fibre cables down my road last Autumn and today, after experiencing yet more outages with our Plusnet connection, I have placed an order to have Gigaclear. There are some half decent deals about currently.

It probably won't be a standard installation from their terminal at the property boundary so they'll have to send someone round to work it out and I can decide to go ahead or not once that's done.

Reviews online aren't brilliant to be honest but wondered if there was any experience in the TWTD massive.

Anyone got any advice on choosing and setting up a NAS drive to store music etc.
at 19:52 14 Nov 2019

I’ve currently got all my music and photos on a second hard drive in an elderly Mac Pro and I stream it to various things in the house using a DLNA server (Twonky). It’s getting a bit full and I may replace the Mac at some point in the not too distant future. So, am thinking of shifting all the files onto a NAS and using that. I have a more recent Dell Windows PC I could use as storage too, but would rather something that doesn’t take up quite so much room.

Anyone got any tips? Thanks.
