Bands that are better live
at 22:10 8 Mar 2024

Saw them in Crystal Palace park last year and they were superb. Supported by the also superb Vaccines and Wombats - in fact Wombats probably had more energy than TDCC. Seen The Wombats twice and they were class both times.

Really keen to watch Maximo Park and Stereophonics.

I hate VAR so much
at 09:59 26 Feb 2024

Give each captain one referral to VAR per game like in cricket? Carries over if correct, lost if wrong.

On the Liverpool goal yesterday, I get that it’s a little crazy but couldn’t that teach attackers to make sure they are onside when the ball is kicked rather than the usual approach of lingering offside and then having the players overtake them when the ball is kicked.

I mean, he was in an offside position and then stopped Colwill making the clearance, so it did interfere with play. Why could he not have stood onside?

I do get the pettiness of it but in a cup final if that was Ipswich defending I would be screaming at the TV after replays.

Birmingham TV commentators today
at 20:55 24 Feb 2024

Some quotes I noted down:

After the first goal “that was an unlucky deflected goal to concede at a time when Blues were having their best spell”

“Blues have had the better of it this second half”

“Birmingham have sprung out the trap second half and are giving Ipswich problems here, feels like momentum is changing”

After the 3rd Ipswich goal:

“A scoreline that unfairly reflects on Birmingham”
“I think it’s fair to say the scoreline flatters Ipswich”

Their commentary was dour and felt like propaganda to their fans watching elsewhere.

So, what do we want from Friday ?

I hear the 2 into 4 is better than 1 into 3 debate but I want a Leicester win and focus on trying to secure 2nd.

Déjà vu?

https://www.twtd.co.uk/amp/news/8001/town-4-3-rotherham

“Town went back to second in the Championship after defeating now relegated Rotherham 4-3 at Portman Road. The scoreline ought to have been far more emphatic but complacent defending gifted the Millers three goals.”

Even the opening paragraph is almost the same.

This was also THAT Jamal Campbell-Ryce game where we all remember him performing like Messi.

Just seen a replay of the penalty
at 22:26 20 Feb 2024

And before the free kick that led to their second our player (Travis?) got clattered near the dugouts and it was ignored - KMK looked fuming at that too.

Awful reffing for key moments.

Didn’t play advantage for Moore first half either

The reformed Bury get some tasty away trips these days

Your knowledge of our academy never fails to astound, Phil.

I note that you’re often the one in the presser to be asking about youth players no one else has ever heard of. Keeping KMK on his toes.

I imagine you have some giant whiteboard in your office which tracks every youth product of the club…

A very different matchday experience. I’ve been reading up on FC Isle of Man as I didn’t realise they had a team in the mainland league, turns out they formed in 2019. They sound well structured to develop their ways up the league over the years, a bit like Jersey rugby possibly.

A future FA Cup away day for Ipswich perhaps?

FA Cup: TNT Sports agrees four-year deal to broadcast competition
at 10:35 16 Feb 2024

I recently added TNT to my Sky subscription as it was on an £18 per month deal and I wanted to watch the England test matches and tune in for the knockout stages of the Champions League. Have done it before and will cancel it in May.

It is eye-wateringly expensive and my mates all have dodgy sticks but I work from home and have the TV on constantly and watch every bit of sport going so in a cost-per-usage perspective I justify the premium to have it in UHD, without any lag and the slickness of using my sky remote. The record, pause, rewind elements are well used by me as well which I wouldn't get with a dodgy stick.

The argument for swapping for a stick is pretty simple, would save me at least £1k per year but thought I would give you the alternative view which I use to justify my continued subscription.

I also don't have a morale issue with anyone using those sticks but not sure I agree with your view of 'the broadcasters and government are corrupt so f*** it, let's steal things'. A bit like someone going to Waitrose and stealing a newspaper because 'They make enough money anyway/their MD is probably a dick'.

National League teams anyone..
at 00:21 15 Feb 2024

Leiston are my second team and in recent years have been Suffolk’s second best club. They missed out on National League themselves a few years back to Dulwich Hamlet and I was one of about 30 away fans in Tooting & Mitcham that day.

I find it a little tricky to support them with Darren Eadie as their boss, the Jarvis brothers playing for them and a few of their squad are Norwich fans but they do have Ipswich links too. They have to be punching well above their weight in terms of town size too. Teams like
Tamworth and the West Mids teams must hate travelling over to Leiston on a Tuesday night.

Ideally the Suffolk based teams at that level (now including Sudbury) would be placed in a better geographic region but I actually think the quality is weaker in the midland section compared to South East which we were all in previously.

Good to see Needham doing so well and hope they go up (which looks fairly promising now). Just mad that Leiston have been top 8 for the last few years and Needham could have been relegated last season and suddenly they’ve torn the league apart.

That’s a shock.

A legend of the game and an iconic voice for me growing up and synonymous with Sundays. One of those out of the blue losses, particularly given he was recording on Sunday gone.

No more Broadside???

We emailed them to sponsor our SW London cricket team a couple of years ago and they sent us abut 10 cases of ghost ship cans. A slightly less worthwhile cause but still...!

I worry they over diversified into too many different products, need to focus back in on their core market and stop selling Adnams Limoncello.

What will Sutton predict the result to be on Saturday?
at 12:55 25 Jan 2024

Ipswich are back in the Championship automatic promotion spots after getting a really good draw against leaders Leicester on Monday. They needed a late equaliser to earn a point, but they played well.

Kieran McKenna is doing a brilliant job there and his Ipswich side are well-drilled and well-organised. The only way I see them slipping up here is if he tinkers with his team too much.

This is a test of his squad depth as much as anything else, but the fact it is at Portman Road is obviously a huge help.

Maidstone have had a brilliant run and have already managed a couple of big FA Cup upsets at home against teams from the top of League One and Two, but I feel this might be a step too far, and I can only see a comfortable home win.

I feel a bit sorry for Maidstone because they have come so far and missed out on the dream draw in East Anglia. Norwich were in the hat too, but unfortunately George Elokobi's side have got to go to Ipswich instead.

Sutton's prediction: 3-0

Justin's prediction: A bit of FA Cup magic always feels less likely when the non-league team is away from home, but I am still going with Maidstone here. 0-1

Arni's prediction: I am going for the same outcome, but after a replay. I'd love for that to happen. The more cracking replays we have this year, maybe the more chance there is of keeping them next year - I hope so! 0-0 and Maidstone to win the replay on penalties.

Anyone watching the Traitors on BBC? **SPOILER ALERT**
at 23:55 24 Jan 2024

Said earlier in the thread - last year the thickest, most naive faithfuls won the money. Keep your head down, support the traitors until the final and wrongly suspect everyone and you win this game. It’s the most frustrating part.

Also - how sad that Ross had 18 hours as a traitor and they will all think he’s been a traitor since the start and he can’t say anything.
