The best league in the world
at 09:08 23 Jan 2020

Watch MOTD every week - but as others have said, skip through the analysis.

Watch whatever Prem game is on tv if I'm not doing anything else. Sometimes watch the Champ if it's a game that catches my eye for whatever reason.

Other than the last couple of Finals, I can't remember the last time I watched a Champions League game though.

Never mind that, why have you got David Lowe in a Leicester shirt as your pic?

Local traffic news:

There are no roadworks on Wherstead Rd at the moment.

There were hold-ups on Monday due to a bus hitting a bike, then yesterday due to the A14.

Today was fine.

Do yellow cards still count if a decision is overturned by VAR?
at 17:40 21 Jan 2020

VAR doesn't give the player permission to be abusive, so I would have though the booking would stand.

Likewise, if a player takes his shirt off, the goal being disallowed doesn't mean it's no longer a booking.

Pitch Invasion IF we win the league?
at 17:38 21 Jan 2020

Ha, we led the charge from the Churchmans End.... we watched most of the game from the back in the middle, and with 5-10 minutes to go, we started making our way to the front via lots of "excuse mes" to get through the packed crowd.

We'd almost made it to the front when Gavin Johnson scored, which actually did us a favour and allowed us to finish the journey in the surge. We then hopped over the wall and started to edge towards the pitch as more filled in behind us. I think my mate was virtually leaning on the goalpost when the final whistle went.....

Pitch Invasion IF we win the league?

Virtually every club has a pitch invasion at the end of the season if they achieve something.

Back in the day, there used to be one at end of the season, no matter what. That's why there's always a ring of stewards around the pitch towards the end of the last game of the season.

Bryan Robson was a) rubbish and the most over-rated player of the 80s, b) always injured and c) always drunk.

Squad numbers....
at 12:54 20 Jan 2020

The 5 and 6 doesn't bother me particularly which way round they are, as long as they are both central defence.

6 is absolutely not a central midfield role any more than it is a striker's number. That much is sure.

Squad numbers....
at 12:40 20 Jan 2020

Agree with both of those.

For a 442 , the numbering system should be as follows:

1 - Goalkeeper.
2 - Right back.
3 - Left back.
4 - Deep central midfielder, potentially the late arrival in the box.
5 - Left sided centre back.
6 - Right sided centre back. Anyone who says this is central midfield can get in the sea.
7 - Right midfield / wing.
8 - Central midfield, potentially the more advanced of the two.
9 - Centre forward. Target man.
10 - Centre forward. Smaller and quicker and more skillful than number 9.
11 - Left midfield / wing.

As we now have squad numbers, they mean slightly less I suppose, but the 1-11 of the squad should be the first choice players belonging to the club in each position.

Loanees shouldn't have 1-11 - they are our guest and get what they're given.

Point of order, we lost to Rotherham in 2014-15.... (0-2 in February 2015).

It used to be, as you will remember.... mixed stands etc in the eighties when hooliganism was at its height.

But since then, and certainly since the turn of the century, it's become more bitter than it used to be. Not to the scale of actual trouble at the matches, but certainly not the friendliness it was.

Considering Kings Lynn is further north than Leicester and Birmingham, it's hardly a surprise they are in the Northern league.

Saturday the best away win since when?

Wasn't there on Saturday, but Brentford on Boxing Day 2014 had us all leaving the ground believing (I know, stop laughing at the back).

Fulham in December 2015 to a lesser extent, and Southend this season was a something of a proper old fashioned away day.

Hadn't realised Liverpool could win the league so early in the season!

But no, if it was a Norwich fan, definitely not.

Are they still run by the Chapman family who run the speedway team and were awarded the football club ahead of the fan trust?

Lambert ...
at 06:47 19 Jan 2020

Everyone’s off until Tuesday now, so Lambo is clearly popping home for a couple of days.

And the likes of Nolan, Garbutt and Norwood will have very likely stayed on Merseyside after the game as well. Jackson up north too.

The bus back would have been half-empty!
