McGoldrick Signs New Deal
Thursday, 20th Aug 2015 17:19

Striker David McGoldrick has extended his Town contract until the summer of 2018.

“Obviously I’m delighted to have signed the contract and I’m looking forward to being part of the future here,” McGoldrick told the club site.

“There is a real buzz about the place at the moment and it’s great to be part of it. We have got a great set of players here and we are going in the right direction.

“The squad is the best I have known in my time here, with the options we have now. We have got real competition for places all over the pitch. The Premier League where we all want to be and that’s the aim for us this season.”

McGoldrick, 27, joined the Blues initially on loan from Nottingham Forest in January 2013, before signing on a permanent basis the following summer following his release from the City Ground.

Last season the Blues triggered an option on his previous deal, which took the Ireland international to the end of the current season, with discussions regarding his new contract having been ongoing over the summer.

Really good news.

I think he is our most skilled player and a fit McG is a joy to watch.

I am particularly pleased for those that had him unhappy/sulking/wanting a move a few months ago although, because things are going well at the moment, few of them post on here of late.

Hmm, this could be a theory, but is Mick now spending the Mings money on wages? Looks like they're signing up the best players first Freddy now Didsy. Is Mick using the money for wages?

Delighted with this. That is pretty much all of our key players tied up on long terms deals. No one is leaving on the cheap. An absolute pivotal player. It has obviously been on the cards for a while with Mick saying that he won't be walking away at the end of the season for some time.

Great news we all know what a player he is when on his game and to lose him would have been a disaster, all the signs are that this squad is so together and fighting for each other(playing or not) is great and I have a feeling in my water that this is our time to go up

Great news! If the Mings money is being used to knuckle down our top players for the next 3-4 seasons then I'm happy. Didz has a job getting into the side which shows how much we've improved this season. It can only bring better performances from him knowing he isn't an automatic pick. Well done Mick and Marcus, keep up the good work.

Wages and bonuses are definitely on the increase, otherwise why would Didsy sign a new contract, when the opportunity of running his contract down till the end of the season and picking up a massive signing on fee for a new club was there for him? Subject to continuing to play well of course

Fantastic news, he's been my favourite player since he first walked in at Portman Road! Such good trickery and awareness, especially against Stevenage where he dropped deep just to try and get something going. Him and Pitman that came on Tuesday really made a difference, as in the first half at times Murphy was being marked by 2 or 3 players as we knocked it up to him. This season is looking very positive! Also MVBlue, Mick said himself that Marcus extended Sears' contract himself and MM didn't know. Well done for getting this done. COYB

McCarthy really has turned this club on its head since his appointment. Regardless of what happens this season, we are now a 'proper football club', no longer the laughing stock of the Championship . If you compare McGoldrick's arrival on a short term loan, many of us Town fans felt very lucky just to have him for a spell.... Now he's nailed to the cause, alongside many other seasoned pros, with a mixture of talented youth. Exciting times !!!

Have say I'm surprised by this but pleased nonetheless given his return to good form. And what player wouldn't want to hear in this tight it squad that appears PL bound. Of course he wants to stay now.

COYBS. ...the only way is UP!

MVBlue. Yes. Iain Milne talked about that in a recent interview. I couldn't find the link but it's somewhere on here.
