Marriott Joins Carlisle on Loan
Monday, 18th Aug 2014 09:06

Striker Jack Marriott has joined League Two Carlisle United on a month’s loan. The 19-year-old frontman spent much of last season on loan in the Conference with Woking.

Boss Mick McCarthy said: “Jack Marriott has gone out on loan to Carlisle for a month. He needs to play some football, like the others, and we’ve got the other guys in.

“Plus when we have the two-week break they’ll have games and he can still be playing in that. Let’s hope he gets some games.”

Cheltenham Town boss Mark Yates has revealed that he also hoped to sign Marriott on loan: “The one we moved onto yesterday we think is joining Carlisle, a centre forward from Ipswich, a young lad, so I think we’ve missed out there.”

Coincidentally, Marriott may make his Carlisle debut at Cheltenham on Tuesday with the sides set to meet at Whaddon Road.

Pinstripeblue. I disagree. Mick has done a wonderful job and for the first time in a long time there is stability. Why do we need to moan? Think where we could be right now if Mick hadn't come along and saved us. I'm extremely happy with where we are as a club right now. Mick has built a platform and were building on it

Miles. I do not disagree with you, however, you have missed the point, if the Town supporters are on here whinging it is because they care and can be bothered to moan. When that stops we are in trouble.
Not all fans have to blindly agree with each other, what a boring PM that would be.

i like the way that if you dont like mcarthys style of play which is perfectly reasonable given the long ball game is generally unpopular then the immediate response is -would you rather have keane or jewell?
keane and jewell are not the only 2 possible options you know-there are plently of other managers out there who can get team playing good passing football and being positive going forward as well as giving younger players chance to fulfill there potential.

Oldegold - if nobody agreed with me, with have I not got more minuses?

Theobald - the point I'm making is that the 'attack, ttack, attack' mentality isnt something we have the budget to do. Burnley went up last season. They often won 1-0, or 2-0. They weren't defensive, but they certainly didn't pile forward, and knock the ball around just for the sake of it. Their season was built on defending. Arsenal went invincible - by defending well. Chelsea, back in 2004/05, won the premier league by defending well (15 Against). Why moan when this way has seen us progress up the table. Also, who would we attract without having to pay compensation? And if we did pay, whO? Darren Ferguson? He'd take us down as we have no money to spend, and Daddy isn't at Man Utd anymore

whats the point of acquiring cat one status when MM doesn't use the young players coming through the ranks i thought this was the idea to bring on and play our own players not other championship rejects we need not bother achieving cat one while we have a manager of MM thinking

BattyBlue - Oh, I don't know, producing better players to get a better youth set up to put them in the side in the fututre, maybe?

Some people on this site would moan if they won they Euromillions, honestly

If the people you disparagingly refer to above, Luka, did win the Euro-millions, I hope they would buy out ME, hire a Chairman who is a football man, not some secretive city type. Then sack the clown and get a modern manager.

How good it is that we now send our Youth out on loan to develop, hopefully coming back stronger, rather than flogging them off to Huddersfield.

Guthrum, we sent Rhodes out on loan to Oxford City, so you cant really use that one to justify Mick's failures to develop young players.

ITFCRealist - How can Mick fail to build up young players when none have come through until now? Also, how would you justify sacking a man that got us from the bottom to challenging for the playoffs on a shoe-string?

Marshalls mullet ... Not panicking. Have said all summer our squad was weaker than last year. Yet, here we are getting rid of more players, failing to replace those from last year and now have others to replace as well. Bajner and Bru don't look championship class as of yet, which leaves us exposed in my opinion. The midfield do not have goals in them, so until we strengthen with attacking options, we are a mid table team at best.

What? Going out on loan for a month (covering an international break) *is* part of a young player's development. We haven't sold Marriott, we've sent him out to gat some games under his belt.

Luka altough i could i wont waste time by listing all the teams in recent histroy who have played passing attacking football and been successful-after all where would I start.
Im not suggesting abandoning defence just not building our game around it and pumping long balls forward.its a horrible outdated style of play and one I feel embarrassed to have my club playing-you give burnley as an example but what about blackpool who had not alot of money but attacked there way to the premier league-they only just got relegated despit a wage cap of 8,000 a week enforced by the chairman in the top flight-they were getting outbid by league one clubs.Swansea city went up and stayed up as well as getting into europe-they had priskin on loan and there main man up front was jason scotland! they did it playing a terrific style and I know alot of town fans I spoke to appreciated the way they played in that period.

Kick and rush is dying at higher levels of the game macarthys style will not get us up and keep us there. In the end I admit im a bit of a football snob but its 3 points for a win and I want to be entertained

Really are some strange people on here. In the next month, cos of the break, we have four matches. Assuming DM and DMc don't get injured, how much playing time would JM get? Not much! So why not send him out and get him six or seven games? Seems logical to me. Unless some of you think we should drop McGoldrick or Murphy?

MM doesn't give youth a chance??!! Did you see our squad at Crawley!! But hey never let facts get in the way of a good moan.

Theobald - the recurring theme of the teams that attack and play pretty stuff is that they have money. We, as so many on here remark, don't

Blackpool went up with a solid defence - and got some money when going up and coming down. They try and attack all the time. Now look

Theobald - can I introduce you a man named Tony Pulis? Plays the same style, kept up Palace and Stoke nicely

I can see all the against loaning hoping Marriot scores and all the for loaning hoping he doesn`t score just so they can say "told you so"

He's only got limited opportunities because MM wont play him! Other Championship clubs give youth a chance but here we'd sooner play the likes of Frank. Marriott has real goal threat and just needed to get on bench a few times. we;ve now got Derby surplus!! Sorry MM but you're going in wrong direction.
