Marriott Joins Carlisle on Loan
Monday, 18th Aug 2014 09:06

Striker Jack Marriott has joined League Two Carlisle United on a month’s loan. The 19-year-old frontman spent much of last season on loan in the Conference with Woking.

Boss Mick McCarthy said: “Jack Marriott has gone out on loan to Carlisle for a month. He needs to play some football, like the others, and we’ve got the other guys in.

“Plus when we have the two-week break they’ll have games and he can still be playing in that. Let’s hope he gets some games.”

Cheltenham Town boss Mark Yates has revealed that he also hoped to sign Marriott on loan: “The one we moved onto yesterday we think is joining Carlisle, a centre forward from Ipswich, a young lad, so I think we’ve missed out there.”

Coincidentally, Marriott may make his Carlisle debut at Cheltenham on Tuesday with the sides set to meet at Whaddon Road.

Let's get real guys. Marriott is not ready for the first team. He said it himself during pre season. He went to gillingham and couldn't get a game. Let him have a go at league 2 and then he can work his way up. Perfect loan for all parties. Good luck Jack! Bang them in and improve your game.

We cant rely on Marriott to play the role MM needs his strikers to do, i.e. chasing and all action. Jack is a good finisher and a stint at L2 will see how he copes with no nonsense center halfs.
It would be great if we could merge Franks physical and athletic presence with Jacks eye for goal.... Conor Wickham lol!

Sammon is ready made for the job and is experienced. He will slot straight in and will be reliable from the beginning. We have enough inexperienced (Mings, Hewitt, Hyam, Bajner, Henshall) players in the team at the moment so I think Sammon is a wise move on that front.

Brian - Hyam has made over 30 first team appearances in each of the last two seasons, and over 80 in total. I wouldnt put him in the company of the others you mentioned. He is an established first team player.

Marriott, Taylor and possibly Nouble out. Just Sammon in. We still haven't replaced last years loanees in green, Richardson and more importantly Williams.

I seriously hope ME and MM have something lined up ... Attacking players. If not, we may as we'll give up. Desperately poor stuff.

However, Marriott May benefit from a loan deal, but it leaves us very short again.

Good point made there Blue041273. Strange thing is you would have thought that being in the academy this season would give them the best possible chance of progressing. Considering we lost academy 1 status because not enough of the kids have made it through, you would think that in order to get Cat 1 next season they will probably put through 4 or 5 this season if they are good enough or not.

Strangely enough I complained about the club not taking on enough kids in the last 4 or 5 years, looks like they should have listened to me on that one too. :)

A really exciting long term prospect. I think he has quality and an eye for goal. Games will do him no harm....especially for a month.

Jas - Dont press the panic button, in terms of any loanees, MM will be leaving it late to see what he can get hold of.

Taylor hardly played for 2 years, so does he need 'replacing', everyone moans about Nouble, and Sammon will do a better job. And can I point out that Marriott is going on loan for 4 WEEKS!! During which we have a 2 WEEK break!!

I dont think replacing back up players like Green and Richardson is a priority at this stage of the season. Williams was great, but unless we get very lucky, we cant expect to get someone else in of that calibre. Pity Pulis has left Palace, he mayve helped us.

Oldegold and Bluetone spouting their usual rubbish there......

How can you put youth in the side when it isn't good enough for this level? Marriott, Bishop and Clarke, as well as Wyatt, are good at their level, but they are not Championship level. They need games lower down to progress up. Youth DOES have a chance. By going on loan first, they are getting it. I think it makes complete sense, will toughen him up a little.

It is a good move as he will hopefully get games, but it's a long way to go for just a month's loan? Surely there was a more local club who would have taken him on? Not sure if this will have an effect on the player?

nobody would know if hes good enough as he has not had a proper run in the side and a run is 5 or 6 games not a one off game.
Mcarthy would rather play an unknown unfit german who could not even make it to half time than marriot. he has now brought in another big lump with a poor goalscoring recorn so we can contiune our new policy of not playing promising youngsters and hitting the ball long and hoping for the best.
Mcarthy is outdated in his approach and will never produce a team that can sustain properly in the top flight.
some on here are content that in the shortterm he pushes us from the bottom half to the top half but in the long term we are going nowhere and are wasting time treading water under him.club needs new vision and direction -follow swanseas lead i say

bluemagic. It doesn't matter what he does at Carlisle he wont get a game here while this clown is in charge. To you others, we failed on the Cat1 because this person wants old, slow, rejects from other clubs who usually play out of place and in anycase cannot play passing football because he fancies himself as a coach (God help us!) and wants to show how clever he is. Well he failed with Nouble and, because he was lucky with McGoldrick, he thinks he is a genius. This man is destroying our Academy while other, better, people are working hard to re-establish it and, in the event, he will destroy Ipswich Town as a club too. Do not moan when he falls flat on his face because there are several people on here trying to warn you. Being honest, I cannot see why real, genuine Ipswich Town supporters arer standing by, many supporting him, and allowing this to happen.

I bet Dozzell, Wickham, Carson, Rhodes, Garvan etc. are well chuffed MM wasn't boss when they were trying to make their way into the first team.
I am fully behind MM but would really like him to use some of our younger talent. One of them may have helped on Saturday!

Until the FA decide that there should be a combination league or, as they do in Germany, have a division for reserve teams, how are players like Marriott every going to get a game unless they go out on loan. They cant sit on the bench and they can't wait for the odd under 21 game, they need to play and learn their craft week in week out.

Not sure on this one good to see Jack getting some games in but I dont see him coming back after 4 weeks it will be extended if he does well or sent somewhere else if it dosent happen at Carlisle.MM seems not to like a Jack in the box player a guy who can pounce on a mistake in or around the goal and if McGoldrick gets a injury we are left with 3 6ft plus up top.Clearly our team is big and strong but lacking balance we need some width to supply these big lads up top or a creative guy to send McGoldrick in on goal.

Don't know why some people are so up in arms about this. Realistically, if the loan is only for a month he misses 5 games:

B'ham (a)
Norwich (h)
Derby (a)
Millwall (h)
Brighton (h)

He was never going to cement a first team place in that time anyway, and he needs games to improve. I think Mick has the busy Christmas period in mind when making this decision, where the amount of games in a small period means greater squad rotation. Would rather see Marriott sharp and ready for that time than come off the bench every 10 minutes for the next few months.

As usual Luka in his inimitable, eloquent fashion demonstrates once again that the cold hard facts pass him by and he has problems accepting that his grasp on all matters Ipswich are beyond his ken.
Rather than say "spouting the usual rubbish, this bumpkin should accept that the vast majority of Town fans agree with me on the Marriott issue.Cold facts speak clear..

Young players going out on loan to gain experience never works, there was once a youngster called Beckham who went on loan to Preston, what on earth happened to him?

Mick out now?!?! Jesus Christ, would you rather Paul "Pass the ball about, lose it, and forget how to defend" Jewell, or Roy "I will spent tonnes on garbage" Keane? Wake up

BillBlue never say never while mm in charge we gota trust believe and hope he does what's right 4 ITFC and so far has done us justice apart from giving the likes of Jack more of a game but sending him out on loan can only help everyone involved, would of loved to see Jack come on against the scum and score the winning goal but its not 2 be until we play them again at carrot rd in feb where he will score the winning goal and thatwould be nice. GOT 2 HOPE COYB...... lp

I still don't get how some of you are arguing about this? In pre season Jack said he doesn't see himself as a first teamer and that he needs to improve his all round game to get ahead of the likes of didsy and murph. Jack knows he needs improving and so does mick. This is why he's going out on loan! Look at Hewitt after last season. Came back a better player and now featuring in the first team. Some of you just aren't happy unless your moaning

Miles. A happy fan is a moaning fan, it is when the moaning stops you need to worry.
