Dyer Exits West Ham
Dyer Exits West Ham

Former Town midfielder Kieron Dyer is understood to have been released by newly-relegated West Ham with his lucrative contract up at the end of the season. The 32-year-old spent a month on loan with the Blues towards the end of 2010/11 and could well end up returning to his hometown club on a permanent basis during the close season.

Speaking in March, Dyer said that a summer move to Portman Road could be amongst his options: “I’m not boasting or bragging, but I’m in a very fortunate situation in that whatever my decision is — whether it be to go abroad and try something different, come home or go to another Championship club or try America — it’ll come down to a family point of view and from a footballing standpoint.

“It’s the love of the game and wanting to play the game that’s driving me on. When you’re injured, you want to get back on the pitch and get that buzz of playing. That’s what gets you through.

“I’m not in football for the financial point of the game. Whatever my decision is in the summer it’s purely going to be on football and my family, which is a good position to be in. I’ll have to have a break in the summer and take it from there.”

After Dyer returned to West Ham at the end of his initial month, Blues boss Paul Jewell confirmed that he would consider moving for the ex-Newcastle man if he became available: “We spoke at length, me and Kieron, and I spoke to West Ham on Friday morning to see if we could extend [the loan].

“That’s his club and he has to go back and if things change in the summer we would be interested.”

Given the former England man’s injury history — he managed only one start and three sub appearances in his loan spell and subsequently picked up a knock in the Hammers’ reserves which prevented any further games - a much-reduced contract based on a pay-as-you-play basis may well be on the cards.

Premier League Everton have also been mentioned in connection with a move for Dyer, while there have been rumours of interest from clubs in the Middle East.

Suffolk-born defender Matthew Upson is also believed to have been told he can leave Upton Park with his terms also up this summer.

Ramseyn

He was racing next to David Wright and my PE teacher who plays international cricket for Ireland so no mugs and dont know if you saw him come on against watford but he had a brilliant run down the wing after he came on.

Anyway as dan_itfc55 said why are we moaning! Hes class

LOL @ Lightning boy... Dyer is injury prone so lets go for Bullard!

Get them both on pay as you play and no risk

When he says that "football and family come first" there must be a good chance that he could return to PR. He only lives just outside Colchester so i cant see him travelling too far.
As for Upson, many WHU fans thought he was overrated and overpaid. I doubt he'll interest many Premierside clubs so maybe a Championship side will take a chance!

To those posters who state "no thanks" and "rubbish" did any of you actually see him play in his short stint on loan?

No?

Didn't think so.

I'd welcome him back, class act (you don't get 30 odd England appearances without a serious amount of ability) look how good Bullard was for us, and he only had 2(?) caps.

Dyer was great back in the day, but I wouldn't want him back. He'll just get injured again, again. I just cannot see what long term benefit it'll give us.

There's two ways of looking at this:

1. What will he achieve for us when fit and playing?

2. What can he teach our up and coming young/inexperienced midfield players (Carson, Drury, Martin, Civelli) which will make them much more effective performers for us?

At the right price, of course. Not suggesting we should break the bank for him.

Yep , THought about and yes - Good experience , Loves Ipswich and will give it all - We could get him on a reasonable deal - gotta be a YES - Better shout than some of the other 'Premiership'wannabes rejects who will add very little in terms of passion and desire eg Nugent , Chopra ... Think we need some hungry lower league players mixed with experience tyoes like Bullard and Dyer ....

I for one would welcome a pay play contract.

When fit he would be the best midfielder in this league.

Madness! Can't believe people actually think Dyer would be 'worth a punt'. He was brought in on loan to sell season tickets! No surprise hearing Clegg bang on about 'ambition' in the sales literature - with Dyers name mentioned. Sadly it back-fired because Dyer barely played because a) he is usually injured b) he is isn't match fit

I would say Dyer was the worst signing for many a year. Sad, because he WAS a great player for us. Emphasis on the WAS. I really hope we don't sign him.

West Ham will certainly be relieved to be rid of him I guess - any Club taking him on would be mad other than on a pay per match basis. Doing that could / would be so potentially disruptive, not worth the hassle.
Sincerely hope we don't even give it the slightest consideration.

Let's hope all those who think otherwise wake up at some point, and start living in the real world.

Most intrigued as to when/if/where our 'new' signings are coming from tho'. !!!

Even a pay as you play is no good, look at his record he has spent too much time on the injured list, those with long enough memories can remember when he first got into the first team, he spent a lot of the time out with shin splints which hampered him a lot.
Yes when he played he was great, but at his age the gaps between games would be longer.

Surco72 - for Bullard to be voted 'Player of the Year' was an embarrassment to both Player and Club, after having played so few games.

Gareth McAuley should have had that accolade - he was a rock all season - hope he get's appreciated by the Supporters at West Brom more, which I'm sure he will.
Just like Walters is at Stoke you could say. But he was also going to be a failure I think I heard someone predict. !!!!!!!!!

Whether or not they play regularly players like Dyer and Bullard will raise the standard for the other squad members. We should not be too concerned about money as Mr Evans will have to fund all of this, not our season tickets.

Dyer, on the right contract, would be a plus for the club. Imagine being an academy player and have the opportunity to play with someone who has played for England. Given a decent pre-season to get match fit I believe that he could add a lot to the 1st team.

I can't understand all the negative posts on here!!!

Anyone who gets into the England squad must have ability and that does not suddenly disappear.

As I said, given the right contract, he could be one of those that gets us into the play-offs and beyond.

I would welcome him back but, as others have said, on a pay as you play deal.
I often see him as his partners family live in my road, would be nice to see him actually on the pitch a bit more than in his car!!

On a pay-per-play deal this is surely a "no brainer" we should welcome him with open arms, I accept he's not the player he was, but he would bring alot to the club, his experience would surely help the younger players too. & as previously said if he gets a good pre-season under his belt he will prove a good addition. Come on Kieron sign on the dotted line!!

We need to move forwards not backwards. As a club If we want to be successful again we can't take risks or 'punts' anymore. Dyer was a great player for town but lets leave it as that.

If it wasn't Dyer and we were linked with a 32 year old, who if he was a horse would have been shot years ago, these boards would be going ballistic. He played about 5 games in 3 seasons for West Ham.

Steer well clear, even on a pay as you play deal his playing 3 games would still cover an up and coming players wages for the season.

You lot are mental!

Kieran Dyer, excellent skillful exciting footballer. That was the case some years ago but not now. He is far to injury prone & i,m afraid in my opinion not the way foward for us to sign him.

FFS Dyer has completed only 25% of matches in the whole of his career, forget him, move on and lets look for realistic targets.

You must let PJ know that KD won the father and son race at St.jo's and that david wright is available as well. Perhaps we should consider this for preseason training. If you are an ex blue and can beat any father in a race over 50meteres you get a contract. Team next year:-

Cooper, Mills, Butch and Hunter, Burley, Talbot gates and the dutch boys with Brazil and mariner up front. May not win anything but at least those of you that still hanker after any old blue who can still pull on boots, will be able to sit in the stands and watch the team you want.

Me.... for gods sake bring in fresh blood... players who arent comfortable after receiving £80k a week for the last 5 years. This is not a veterans league but one that is won by swift fast athletic strong players .... look at QPR and Norwich.

Sorry if this upsets those of you wearing blue tinted glasses but we'll get nowhere with dyer and other oldies.

Ps Bigfootblue ----- dyer has always had problems with his knees even when he was with NUFC. It's not just his knees but his whole legs.

The way things are going, should try and get him as beggars cant be choosy.Last season only secured Mark Kennedy,Marton Fulop and Jason Scotland, and this year Andy Drury, whilst sellingAlex Bruce Owen Garvan Jonathan Walters and Jon Stead plus loads who have left at the end of this season.
Ignore the hype and if we dont sign several quality players before start of next season I feel we could be in another relegation scrap;
