Dyer Exits West Ham
Dyer Exits West Ham

Former Town midfielder Kieron Dyer is understood to have been released by newly-relegated West Ham with his lucrative contract up at the end of the season. The 32-year-old spent a month on loan with the Blues towards the end of 2010/11 and could well end up returning to his hometown club on a permanent basis during the close season.

Speaking in March, Dyer said that a summer move to Portman Road could be amongst his options: “I’m not boasting or bragging, but I’m in a very fortunate situation in that whatever my decision is — whether it be to go abroad and try something different, come home or go to another Championship club or try America — it’ll come down to a family point of view and from a footballing standpoint.

“It’s the love of the game and wanting to play the game that’s driving me on. When you’re injured, you want to get back on the pitch and get that buzz of playing. That’s what gets you through.

“I’m not in football for the financial point of the game. Whatever my decision is in the summer it’s purely going to be on football and my family, which is a good position to be in. I’ll have to have a break in the summer and take it from there.”

After Dyer returned to West Ham at the end of his initial month, Blues boss Paul Jewell confirmed that he would consider moving for the ex-Newcastle man if he became available: “We spoke at length, me and Kieron, and I spoke to West Ham on Friday morning to see if we could extend [the loan].

“That’s his club and he has to go back and if things change in the summer we would be interested.”

Given the former England man’s injury history — he managed only one start and three sub appearances in his loan spell and subsequently picked up a knock in the Hammers’ reserves which prevented any further games - a much-reduced contract based on a pay-as-you-play basis may well be on the cards.

Premier League Everton have also been mentioned in connection with a move for Dyer, while there have been rumours of interest from clubs in the Middle East.

Suffolk-born defender Matthew Upson is also believed to have been told he can leave Upton Park with his terms also up this summer.

IF he stays fit, then maybe, possibly even a captain. he offers some support for the forwards that weve lacked at times in recent years. however, would we rather have him or bullard?

He will probably sign for us. We want to take a risk with Jimmy Bullard if his reduced wages could be accommodated. So why not Kieron Dyer? He's available and would want to play, so it's just about the money and the length of deal. Bearing in mind our league position and the record of attracting players of Simon Clegg (effectively Marcus Evans' head above the parapet), who is not a football man but needs potential players to be identified for him, our summer signings will be few, and are likely to come from Ipswich 'legends' like this, or sons of old mates of Paul Jewell and Chris Hutchings.

No no no! This is the sort of nonsensical distraction that we don't need!

Some "fans" are dipsh*ts on this forum. He is 32....not 74 years of age. You may lose a bit of physical conditioning over time but you never lose class. If he was on a pay to play the club would be crazy not to sign......Keiron Dyer...Ex England international, plying his trade back at Town, helping the young stars such as Connor & Carson.

Will we get promoted with a full squad of inexperienced 21 year olds?? Inexperienced lower league possible future stars??
Our current squad??

.......................not a chance.

A required player who would be a massive cou for the club. Even if injured his input as a mentor or coach of some sort I'm sure would be invaluable.

Well, seeing as how folk are discussing the merits or otherwise of fitness, age and pay as you play I'm surprised no one has mentioned getting Jonathan Woodgate on here. Believe he is likely to be leaving Spurs. We could develop a whole team on that basis. The squad we have and another eleven that play every now and then when there is an R in the month, perhaps? Come on. Anyone else that can think of any other realistic contenders to make up this possible "reserve" team?

On a pay for play basis he would be awesome and help and inspire the younger players Lets not forget he is a local lad and money is probaly not an issue for him so i think he would love to come home and help the team. And lets face it if he stays fit and we keep Jimmy what a midfield that would be !!

Very good player, but unlikely to get him considering our wage structure. Someone else is bound to come in and take him.....
Upson? Nice to dream but no chance.
Thought Crystal Palace did well to get the striker from Brighton- he was real class last season for them (was it 27 goals in the league?).
Still,- our team is looking pretty good next year for the play-offs...

If his wages are on check and we get him on a short term contract - or pay as you playthen we have very little to lose. let us not forget we are getting an ex Enlgand International who is still essentially a local lad.

Undoubtedly skilled, but I truely believe we had the best of it. Pay per play, o.k.

62wasBest - Brilliant idea

We could get Hargreaves! Another class midfielder who could watch from the Directors box. Dyer, Hargreaves, Bullard - we could call them the dodgy legs club! It would mean we could give all of the young lads 30 or 40 games a season while they are injured.

We could get Gavin "sicknote" Williams back (no doubt somebody will reply and call him a legend).

Any other nominations before PJ goes out and does something really silly by signing some fit healthy young players?

Bullard, Dyer? Bad knees? What twaddle.

Ain't you idiots ever heard of cortisone?

We've got no squad PJ. Get 'em in quick.

Bored, bored, bored, bored, bored!!
Whilst Dyer is a long-lost son I just cant see how he is up to the job on a week in week out basis. As a big time Charlie I just don't see him getting excited about living off Foxhall Rd, and limping through games against Coventry on a Tuesday evening in February. Much more likely that he will go for a last big pay cheque in Australia or somewhere else he can enjoy the lifestyle with his family

Avoid. We don't want any passengers. If he isn't fully committed to coming, and he doesn't sound like it, then we don't want him.

blue1 added 12:18 - May 25
Why would we want him over paid injury prone - get someone in who can do the job no wonder we never get anywhere

H32 just because you dont agree with it doesnt make it any less of a fact that Bullard was player of the year !! after a number said he was injury prone and a wasteful signing .
As for Walters he has done very well ,as he always did for us making us a large profit in the process .How many of Keanes signings will make such a large profit if we can actually sell any of them on ?

And JAs0999 clutching at pathetic straws as usual Dyer the worst signing over recent years ? What about John, Odea,Healy as loan signings or the way overpriced signings of Martin,Priskin,Scotland but they were signed by Keane so it doesnt count

I would welcome Dyer back, 10k a week with half decent bonus's back at his hometown club. What could be better? Also i see Shefki has been released, would also love him back again(again, again!)

Sol Campbell for a season, looked suspect in prem but in our league could do a job.

Alot of decent players released this summer lets hope we get in on the act!!!

So many links.......
So few players......
I hate to think how many players left this club and never got replaced.....
David Wright, Owen Garvan, Jonathan Walters, Jon Stead, Alex Bruce, Tom Eastman, Gareth McAuley, Brian Murphy, Reggie Lambe to name just a few....
Oh yeah,- they were replaced- with our reserves, youth team or loanees....
We need some SERIOUS investment in our team. The other championship sides are already strengthening their squads- why is ours just becoming depleted?
I suppose we've got Carson, Jamie Griffiths and Lavery coming through the ranks...we will be ok......
