Yes, although in the first half tonight we dealt with it and then chose our moments to break. The second half was a bit too scrappy from us so we just couldn't keep the ball.

Very difficult to get our passes away when we are smothered like that. I think most games we will come out on top as teams that press us start to tire... Problem we had tonight, was gifting them a goal on the stroke of half time just as they were dropping. Then conceding the 2nd, energised them... If we go in at half time 2-0 up, it's a different game, imo. It was so close to being the perfect , 1st half, away from home..
Tbf, though. And we keep saying it. But that was the type of game we either draw or lose last season. So gotta be happy with 3pts on the road. |  | | |

Some of the stuff on this thread is nonsense.
I like Burgess and he may be better in that one particular aspect, but can you imagine Walton having the confidence to roll the ball out to him in order to get play moving from the back? This is the foundation on what we’re built on under McKenna. Unfortunately we will sometimes concede the occasional sloppy goal, but tonight was a throw back to the kind of games we won when we were successful.
I really like Burgess and think he’s excellent, but we can’t start players because they can defend the press better. We’re the ones that are now taking the game to the opposition and it’s our slick play out from the back that enables this. | | | |

Possibly, however I am not sure that's fair either as teams weren't pressing us as high up the pitch when Burgess was in the team.
It's been noticeable it's been higher the last few matches.

And when you look at chances conceded they are always few and far between, even last night it took 3-4 errors to concede an open play goal and we just don't do that often.
The set piece goal was a good move from them, and not a huge amount we could do with it - Burgess wouldn't have been on that front post as would have taken a more central zone.
Woolfie and Fridge so vital to how we play, so good on the ball, and our defensive numbers are excellent and have been all season. Burgess was playing well, and had he not been injured would have stayed in the team - but Edmundson has come in and far exceeded what Burgess is capable of |  |

Harrison looked like he was for us at his best: mobile, hard-working and a pain in the arse for defenders but not really that threatening in front of goal.
He obviously still feels he's got a point to prove against us but at least didn't start with offensively late first minute tackle as he did at Portsmouth bac in 2019 (the ref totally bottled the red card there). | |

Indeed, the first goal was terrible by any measure but their second was well worked, the blocking off of Wolfenden to allow space for the shot.
The OP is right that we are less good against sides that press aggressively but it is an issue further forward with the use of the ball sometimes being careless. Agree on the last point too, being able to bring the ball out from the back makes a big difference in those games. | |
