Prior to the Betis stuff yesterday, I thought this would take at least a couple of weeks to happen. Very exciting signing as long he can stay fit. COYB
And with Burgess fit and playing well, there’s no need to rush Axel into the first team.
Serious focus on getting his fitness and body dynamics right up to speed. And as stated get him fully integrated to how we play, our culture and the group.
It’s a long hard season, and the squad has to be strong. Especially with Burgess international career taking off.
I do think Burgess has been playing well though, and has improved his passing game immensely. I do however that Axel brings an ability to bring the ball out even more effectively.
And crucially has experience of promotion from this league, including a play-off final win!

Ah, but would he get in the mighty Leeds United team?
This is a real coup of a signing. Clearly we don't know all the ins and outs of who was in for him, or what they offered. But Luton seemingly failed to do a deal. On the face of it, we landed a player who was wanted by a premier league team. And we didn't have to offer him a three year deal to do so. One year would have been incredible, but a one year extension option on top of that is seriously good business.
His lack of game time and injury record are well documented, but the guy has played in 5 different Premier League seasons, 2 Champions League campaigns and a UEFA cup run, including an impressive performance against Mbappe.
And he's still really quite young for a CB - not quite a year older than Woolfie.
If anyone can get a tune out of him it's Kieran, and that link appears to have at least help to land him. If it doesn't work out, the downside is minimal. But there's no reason to think he's tainted forever. the Club will have done careful work on his medical and fitness history, and they know far far more than we do about this stuff.
But if people are keen to tell me to give players time before having an opinion on them.. i think the same people shouldn't be showing such excitement until we see how many games the fella ends up playing first.
Imo.
But... but. If we do manage to get him fit. And he does manage to play for us.. then yes it's a solid signing.
