But he's only the man of one section of the people (those who want a hard Brexit). That may well not be enough to win him a General Election.

Moreover, Farage can claim Johnson has "failed" and try to carve off voters for himself.

On the contrary - this will hit him hard in the polls.

We've seen the damage that the vocal minority can do.

52% apparently voted for it and Labour have ruled themselves out of the contest and Lib Dembhave gone hard the other way. Boris could sweep up all parts of leave

To have lied to the Queen is not going to sit well with a lot of his traditional support.

I'm not sure the law against the law breaker is much of a selling point, if you've got any common sense. We'll have to see how it's spun I suppose.

There's bound to be 'enemy of the people' stuff flying around again from Cult Brexit and their media flag bearers; they won't listen to this. Whilst those of us not indoctrinated now have the ruling to confirm what we already knew. On that basis I reckon we'll all carry on as gloriously divided as before.

Reading the Telegraph comments, many of the noisiest posters have pledged for Farage, vowing never to vote Conservative again. The Leaver vote is split just as much as the Remainer side.

Plus a LibDem-Lab alliance is far more likely currently than a LD-Con one. And what natural allies do the Tories have, apart from the DUP? The Brexit Party will eat votes, but doubt they'll win many seats. Plus going in with them would rerquire a commitment to No Deal and lose even more of the Conservative moderates.

Tho they will merely put this down to "Remainiac judges" who are "enemies of the people".They have no regard for the rule of law (or anything else) if it does not support their cause.

If the Queen came out as a Remainer, they'd turn republican.

I was thinking of the traditional Tories rather than the Brexiteers specifically. As you say for them it doesn't matter.

A lot of traditional Tories (voters, rather than party members) are already becoming alienated from the way Johnson is going. They're unlikely to vote Labour, but might consider LibDem.

Flouncing? I'm extremely interested in the reasons as to why, someone who very recently lost someone extremely close and loved to cancer, is accused of flouncing after you described a broad section of society ' a cancer' it is disgusting thing to say when one has seen what this illness does to beautiful human beings.

I'm sorry for your loss but I doubt there's anyone on this board who hasn't lost someone to cancer. Your reaction is not reasonable. It's an established saying.

It is a disgusting thing to say and to compare those who have a differing opinion to yours to this terrible illness should see you lower your head in shame, it wont though, the division sown by those similar to you is too deep.

Any other phrases you object to? Probably shouldn't say blind-man's buff for fear of upsetting the visually impaired. I suppose deaf as a post would be out too. Break a leg could be pretty upsetting for someone in a cast, and don't throw the baby out with the bathwater is clearly making light of harming children.

You're making links that just aren't there I'm afraid. Words have multiple meanings. A plague of locust no more refers to the bubonic plague than the Brexit Party being a cancer on Britain's politics relates to someone with stage 4 melanoma.

What a horrendous thought! Obviously appeals to ardent Brexiteers, but would not to many mainstream centrist Tories, nor would ardent Labour Brexiteers vote to put Boris in power.

Comparing people to cancer, what an absolute cn ut you are.

Having just lost someone close to cancer you fe kin disgust me.

I used the term in this thread, but very specifically to draw an analogy between cancer and the tactics of Leave.eu today. Leave.eu are a negative influence and serve no constructive purpose, much like cancer cells which can't repair themselves. So it's a reasonable analogy in that respect.

And it is an established saying. The above use of 'cancer' is defined in the Oxford English dictionary as follows:

"cancer1
NOUN
1.2. An evil or destructive practice or phenomenon that is hard to contain or eradicate.
‘gambling is a cancer sweeping across the nation’"
https://www.lexico.com/en/definition/cancer

I don't know anyone who would take the p1ss out on cancer sufferers. That would be vile. It's a b*gger of a disease that has affected most of us in one way or another. The last thing I would want to do is offend those impacted by cancer by comparing them to Leave.eu.

To have lied to the Queen is not going to sit well with a lot of his traditional support.

He didn't lie to the queen he did exactly what he said closed parliament for conference season and to prepare for the queens speech.
This has been hijacked by remoaners lead by Gina Miller and the law lords who it would seem now run our country, this at some stage is going to come back and haunt some of those involved in this travesty of the people.
