I was just looking at Twitter (for striker signings of course) and saw a live video (I think) of planes trying to land at Heathrow in the wind - first one I saw was a touch and go.
This is the sort of thing I could get stupidly addicted to watching. In 15 minutes I've seen ~15 attempts to land with 3 aborts, including that first one that bounced and went round again. Not sure what the normal abort rate is?

In 2019 our flight from Sri Lanka back to Gatwick was diverted because of winds to Manchester. The promise to land at Manchester, refuel and hopefully the winds will have subsided came to naught.
Fortunately we hadn't driven to Gatwick (despite the concessionary parking deals for Town fans), so we were able to avoid what Emirates said would be a four hour coach drive back to Gatwick (it was a miserable and windy Friday afternoon in February, so it was going to be nearer seven hours than four) and caught a train from Manchester to Thetford, where a kind friend collected us.
