....is now Chief Scout at Monaco.

That's a serious job, maybe we should see if he can help out his former club!

trying to remember what type of player he was and how he did here.

I remember him being very limited with the ball but being an ok defender who was shunted out to right back and didn't ever pull up any trees.

I'm pretty sure he threw the ball out for a corner at Forest once.....

I know Gus Uhlembeek did it at PR once too haha

Wasn't the scissor tackle something of a special move of his?

Very limited on the ball, not great defensively and seemed unable to take a throw in without it being a foul throw.

Slightly harsh to blame him for the play-off semi at Upton Park though as Royle played him when he was clearly unfit as not recovered from an injury.

He made Etherington look like the second coming of Maradona that day.

Think I remember him being really good until George Santos snapped him in half and he was never the same after that.

I didn't like him here. Etherington (a decent player) tore him to bits at upton park didn't he - it was laughable. Royle got it wrong that day - should have started Wilnis against Etherington and Richards the other side

A bit of a comedy player, and for that reason I kind of liked him.

He was a very limited player but I think he knew that as well. Always gave 100% and he was, by all accounts quite a friendly chap off the pitch.

I will say, that for all the posters saying that he was limited (including me), he played for us whilst a top half championship side - a promotion chasing one at that. A much higher standard than what we have now.

"he played for us whilst a top half championship side - a promotion chasing one at that. A much higher standard than what we have now."

I think that at least partially reflects Joe Royle's attitude to defenders, he was more than happy to push Gardsoe out and play Diallo and Santos. Whilst de Vos was generally good until he lost all mobility we really weren't very good at the back.

He was absolutely sht.

And our current fullbacks are far better than him.

Hell, chambers was actually a far better fullback than him!

Guardsoe had long gone before JR became our manager.

No he hadn't, was pushed out in the Summer of 2003 after Royle decided he was culpable for too many goals conceded - the idea of coaching players to make them better not occurring to him.

He was still here when Royle was manager. Everyone assumed his departure was financial, but Royle insisted it was because he didn't rate him.

Joe didn't rate him defensively. Didn't think he could play in a central defensive two, so sold him to bring in players he felt could.

Doh. For some reason I was confusing him with Claus Thomsen - don’t know why, years apart. Apologies.
