"Could you name some right wing things "Boris" has done please? Not what he has said; done."

How about shutting down parliament illegally to prevent it exercising it's democratic right?
Or a nice little bit of dogwhislting racism?

It is undemocratic.

That's the point though. Why bother replacing it with another chamber of elected people, you might as well not bother?

The only way it could possibly work is that if anyone who stood for it had to be independent but I can't see how that would actually be workable.

Your last sentence; that's pretty much what we had before Blair changed it all. Sure, there were a lot of toffs inevitably, but they didnt owe anything to anyone.

The (useless) water cannon is a fairly recent example. Being "tough" on rioters despite it not being even legal to use it.

Famously left wing countries like Belgium and France have and use water cannon regularly (ironically most recently on left wing protesters). Boris as you say didnt even deploy it.

He couldn't deploy it because it was ruled to be illegal.

I would still say that being seen to being tough on crime is a right wing tendency for the most part, things like water cannons feed into it.

Racism sadly is not a preserve of the right, is it. We all know this now.
He shut down Parliament unlawfully, not illegally, I struggle to think of a more left wing thing to do than try to shut down a dissenting elected Parliament though.

I do agree, although not on the "more left wing" bit, but we are straying into right wing economically, right wing socially, and authoritarianism. You can of course be a left wing authoritarian.

How was he tough on crime? But you do hit on a key point about "being seen". This comes back to what I say about the difference between what politicians say, and what they do.

I think it is fair to say that he has displayed an authoritarian streak with his attempt to shutdown parliament, use water cannon on protesters and control the BBC.

Authoritarianism is not the preserve of the left or the right, it is a tendency of both. But since we know that he is not a left winger it is fair to say that these all examples of his right wing authoritarian tendencies.

He didn't have enough power as London Mayor to really do anything that would actually be tough on crime, that sort of stuff is at a national level.

I'm not sure left and right really work for Boris. What I think he is, at heart, is a right-wing populist. He'll say whatever makes him popular, even if he doesn't really believe it.

My main worry is that before he's never really had a lot of power to do anything (other than make gaffes), but he certainly does now.

A disciple of Edmund Burke. Someone who believes in the small, local, proven, traditional. A small c conservative who believes in a Monarchy, limited capitalism, family, the ability to control and defend our borders and interests, the ability to keep the state at arms length from family life, and freedom of religion.

Yeah, but you dont accept that being a member of a party, and hence a supporter of its policies, that has cut back public spending and imposed austerity on the country whilst at the same time cutting corporation tax is right wing.

If you don't think that the tory party is right wing then it is going to be hard convincing you that his support for it and membership of it, is right wing.
