I do have some sympathy with this as it goes.
I grew up thinking breakfast was a couple of bacon rolls from Noel's van on Bury market and couldn't for years think of a better way to start the day. Washed down with copious amounts of tea of course. Butter wasn't necessary as the surplus oil would fill the role of lubricant.
There's a fair shout for bacon rolls to be as crude as possible - pretty much as you describe - and for there not to be any attempts to refine them in any way.
Some time down the line though, after trying varying degrees of bacon based efforts from other establishments (most were poor in comparison) I was introduced to a different type of bacon breakfast which came from a sandwich shop in Diss.
These were large granary baps, big feckers that had to be cut in half.
The owner would put the oven on low at 5am when she got into work and fill it with trays of streaky bacon. Hours of slow lovely crispiness...
Inspired by this memory I've just been to the bakers and bought some large granary rolls and have had streaky bacon cooking away under the grill.
